  • It's been a very good Premier League season. And because of that, I wanted to make a short video the final matchday and some of the major stories at the top of the table. Longer season review will be coming the next few weeks.
    Congratulations, Manchester City!

the difference again is that the Big 6 has the muscle to compete, all billion dollar clubs. Chelsea has spent over a billion over the past 2 years alone. Utd has spent more than anyone over the past 10 years. This alone makes the prem different from Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga. City doesn't get most of their players from EPL teams, so that alone separates them from Bayern. City is a well oiled machine(pun intended), They have great recruitment, great background staff and great on field management and finally a wealthy owner who's willing to cough up as much money as necessary.

Man city have the best manager in the world, who has a team he's had limitless resources to build to his wishes since 2017, and yet it came down to the final day with him and an arsenal team that were assembled under arteta 3 years ago. Liverpool missed out by 1 point on the last day in the 2021-22 season. Arsenal lost out last season by 6 points.
Compare this to La liga where Real Madrid have won by 12 points this season, barca won by 10 points last season, Real Madrid won by 13 points in the 2021-22 season, and so on...
Leverkusen have won the bundesliga by 17 points this season. The closest it has been in a long time was last season when bayern scraped the title by goal difference. They won the 21-22 season by 8 points, 2020-21 season by 13 points, the 2019-20 season by 13 points again and so on.
Serie A is just as bad. Inter won by 19 points this season, Napoli won by 16 points the season before, was 2 points difference between inter and Ac Milan in 2021-22 season, but in 2020-21, inter won again by 12 points.
Man city have not "dominated", they've clutched, multiple times. The margins for their victories have been far closer on a more regular basis than comparable leagues like la liga, the bundesliga or Serie A.

Even with all the injuries and uncertainties, Won their respective league, beat Man City IN the UCL for seasonal bragging rights, and possibly have a chance by definition to have a Treble-like winning season themselves this year (I know for the purists the Supercopa doesn’t have the same level of prestige as the Copa Del Rey, but by definition a Treble is 3 trophies in a Season so it can by definition be called one if Real win the UCL outright)

Arsenal lost out last season by 2 games, and this season by 2 points after leading for most of the season. It's not about the lack of ability, it's about consistency over the season. For various reasons, man city have perfected being consistent enough to win multiple seasons back to back by much smaller margins than comparable leagues. I wouldn't call it farming, I'd call it being a specially world class team. Last season in CL, they made real Madrid look average.

Real Madrid or Barcelona could drop multiple points in la liga and still win comfortably with the thresholds they typically win by. City's wins have come down to a few points during 3 of these 4 consecutive wins.
And sure, you make a good point about them being funded by a gulf state. If that's all that mattered and the PL was a farmers league where no one else can compete, then surely they should won by 10+ points every time easily? That's not what has happened though.

So many people want to clam that FFP breaches are the only reason for their success and although it obviously helps all the teams surrounding them in the league a spend similar insane sums of money while not creating a slither of the success or quality that the City squad produces. The difference is that everyone knew who would win when it started. The EPL appears to be competitive because it's close, but the end result is almost always the same. The competiveness is an illusion. You don't know who's winning La Liga or Serie A at the start of the season, even if you can probably predict the first two (which you can't in the EPL).

You can hate it, you can love it. The fact is that Man City is just better. Blaming it on money is nonsense at this point. I'm not saying they haven't spent a lot of money, they definitely have. But so have other teams. Chelsea, Man City, Man United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and West Ham have all spent more than a billion euros on players since 2010. Chelsea has spent 2.8 BILLION EUROS, and they're sixth. Man United is eighth. It's more than just money. It's talent, skill, management, quality. Look at Leverkusen and Girona.

The yardstick of why the EPL is a farmer’s league is not because Man City won the title 4 times in a row but because no matter how dominant City was, they still failed in Europe. The top clubs in EPL failed in all European competitions and none made it to the semi finals of the CL or EL.

The argument in favour of the EPL over Bundesliga and Ligue was always "It's a one horse race." The same team always wins. That's what you all said. Then you started moving the goalposts when city started dominating and saying "The top 4 race is soooo competitive." Finally you guys are talking about the point difference at the end. I've never seen such weaselly argumentation in all my life. Just give it up. It's embarrassing. The PL today is what you criticized other leagues for before Pep came. End of.

You completely ignore other aspects of the league like battle for europe, battle for relegation, quality of play, quality of personnel, how unpredictable the league’s games tend to be. Economics of football explain everything. The premier league has the most equal profit sharing structure allowing for teams at the bottom end of the table to afford significantly better players and managers than their counterparts in other leagues. Consequently, the premier league is more competitive because teams outside the top 6-8 on the table are significantly better than in other leagues. While the top teams in the La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga are as good if not better than in the Prem, lower tier Premier league teams will finish much higher in other leagues.
The premier league is aware that this increased competition drives viewership and wants to deal with Manchester City because they are attempting to do what Real Madrid/Barcelona has done to the La Liga, which is to financially dominate it- leading to footballing domination. Unfortunately for the premier league Manchester City are an exceeding corrupt and powerful organization who are able to manipulate their way around the rules and beat their competition by fine margins. If the premier league allow this corruption to continue, it will lead to reduction in viewership and ultimately revenue for the league.

Man told us it was going to be a rant and here I am feeling like it's all very reasonable. Anyway the rest of the league can probably relax soon since (unless there's a big change of heart) Pep has decided to leave after the 24/25 season. City have a great squad but Pep is the difference between a good run of seasons and the centurions, the domestic clean sweep, the treble, and the 4peat.
