    Old School Punk Rock Songs, Top 100 Punk Rock Songs Of The 70's
    Between 1975 and 1976, when the genre that became known as punk was developing, prominent acts included Ramones, the Saints, Sex Pistols, the Clash, the Damned, Buzzcocks. By late 1976, punk had become a major cultural phenomenon in the UK. It gave rise to a punk subculture that expressed youthful rebellion through distinctive styles of clothing, such as T-shirts with deliberately offensive graphics, leather jackets, studded or spiked bands and jewellery, safety pins, and bondage and S&M clothes.

    So many of the same type of groups, and so many of the young people went wild and vented their anger because of their unfulfilled claims to personal greatness. Over the years, people's complaints grew, and therefore the music became more and more angry. Overall this is a painful condition. As for creativity, perhaps in this top you can highlight 10 or 20 tracks where there is strength and beauty of idea and execution, the rest can be discarded. Always seek only the best and discard the rest

    shame you went for a manufactured boy band at No1 and had the bandwagon jumpers The Clash in there so many times. Good to see Saints on the list though. Why no Dead Kennedy's? California Uber Alles was released in 79.

    • @jeffreyhart500
      @jeffreyhart500 Před 5 měsíci +2

      That 'boy band' was pretty good. Stop hatin'. The Clash weren't bandwagonners. Who ya gonna shit-talk next, The Damned? Can't leave 1 of 'The Big 3' alone, ya know.

    • @MrNeiltonoman
      @MrNeiltonoman Před 4 měsíci +2

      Not Hating. just giving an opinion that differs to yours. Plenty of people at the time saw The Clash as using the punk movement as a means to become rock stars. Love The Damned by the way.@@jeffreyhart500

    • @jeffreyhart500
      @jeffreyhart500 Před 4 měsíci

      Fair enough, but the only reason that the Clash waited so long to release their music as compared to the rest of the Big 3 was money. The Damned were first to release because they didn't hold out as long as the other 2. They're all punks, and band membership was fluid, with folks complaining and going all the time.
      The bands managers, with possibly the exception of The Damned, wanted image-heavy bands. Still do.
      Even though it hadn't been invented yet, video did kill the radio star.
      As far as who is or were 'punk,' I don't even know anymore. All I know is that I'm tired of the gatekeeping and purity-spiralling.
      Thanks for being civil.

      The Gate Keepers are here, and here are their rules.
      Any band that evolves past the original punk phase and becomes popular are sellouts.
      Any band that doesn't evolve but becomes popular anyway are poseurs.
      The only 'real' Punk bands are those that most haven't heard of.
