I've had some really insightful discussions with friends over this kind of thing, and the information that is hidden from view in each route is so important in illustrating the realities of tough choices people have to make.

I think its fitting Dimitri and Edel share a final boss theme. This song isn't about fighting some god or omnipotent being, it represents the emotional final push, the endgame to stand on top after a long journey of hardship. Dimitri and Edelgard's final battles, despite being two completely opposite sides of the coin, were both about that. They essentially started this together when Dimitri gave Edelgard that dagger and told her to cut her destiny with it. They were eachother's motivators as much as they were eachother's obstacles, and shared the most emotional connection out of any of the people byleth can choose to follow. It feels right that at least with this song, that relationship can be highlighted one more time.
@TooLateToTheStory actually, if you choose to build your supports with dimitri more so than the other students he discusses it with you in his night of the ball convo (and its also mentioned in one of his supports with sylvain, though its more for comedy then.) you do see that dimitri still cares for her and it definitely makes the pre timeskip blue lions plot make more sense
@TooLateToTheStory definitely do that. I think if you don't build your supports or get the convo the Big Secret doesn't get revealed until late post timeskip.
Edelgard has also a strongly emotional connection with Byleth (even more from her point a view and her path). I agree with you but not totally because in the Edelgard's path Dimitri is far less important than Edelgard is in Dimitri's path. (Maybe Dimitri is less important for Edelgard than she is for him)
@@edelgardvonhresvelg7973 It's more like Edelgard forgot Dimitri, but she still used the dagger's purpose to motivate her, I think. After all she still kept it on her person in the monastery.
I dunno why nobody is talking about the beautiful singing at 3:06, but that part and the violin solo that followed almost moved me to tears while I was playing. It’s so emotional.
It conveys so many emotions, specially the inner sadness and termoil in Demitri when he has to kill his childhood friend and his flash backs make hem questions his choices even more. But that just my deeper opinion of what I think it means.
Joseph Parcelewicz I personally associate this song most with Edelgard, given how the Edge of Dawn is sung from her perspective (I also like to think that it's her singing that opera part) but I also see how the song can apply to Dimitri as well. All of these characters have been through a lot, so it's only fitting that they have such an emotional and climactic final battle theme.
@@v.emiltheii-nd.8094 "NonSense Fools who do not accept their own sins, are unworthy of salvation. You humans are the one who betrayed, You betrayed me and my mother!"
After knowing the lore, I would say this to Rhea if I was Byleth. "You used me and my mother to resurrect yours. Why won't you accept she won't return? If you say I would disobey the goddess, you made Sothis into me! You want to see your mother again? I'll happy to help you reunite, once you're dead!"
@@ejelecflametails6657 wow Byleth are sure angry but understandable for him to get this angry just imagine your whole life is a failure of some experiment caused your mother to die and you become an unstable emotionless guy.
I liked that about him. At first you think he's just a noble princeling, almost too perfect until you uncover the layers of his pain and insanity. You see just how far he falls, and then seeing him come back from that fall and returning stronger for it, and a lot more compassionate, he shows so much growth. It's kinda funny in a way. Dimitri suffered great pain in his past and did everything in his power to suppress it. Edelgard also suffered great pain and used that to push her forward. When it finally overwhelmed Dimitri, he lost all compassion and hope, but he was surrounded by people who were kind hearted and strived to be knights. So when they brought him back from the brink, the Blue lions were able to give him the compassion he needed to embody to become a good king. Edelgard on the other hand is surrounded by people who were steeped in noble priviliege or consumed in their own problems. Only Dorothea is a commoner amongst the Black Eagles. While the people around Edelgard are nice people, they are more concerned with their circumstances than they are about being good people. (LInhardt is a bored genius, Bernadetta is a recluse, Caspar is focused on being a worthy fighter because he's a second born, Dorothea is looking toward her future, Ferdinand is too focused on being a noble noble (and has a competitive streak with Edelgard) and Petra is technically a prisoner making do as best she can in a foreign land she struggles to understand.) So when Edelgard uses the past to push her forward, unless Byleth is with her, she doesn't have the support network to bring her back from the brink. In fact, because she's always had to cut her own path, she doesn't know HOW to rely on the people around her other than Hubert who is too loyal and devoted to pull her back. Dimitri essentially comments that her path is the path of the strong. It's a path she's well equipped to walk. But it's one where most people can't follow her. The difference between them is Dimitri learns the value of having allies and bringing people together. Edelgard never learns that, she only knows how to cut her own path. Or rather, she tries to learn to do that with the professor, she reaches out, she shows her vulnerability. And if you choose Silver Snow Route, you reject her. In a way, silver snow route dooms her to the path she's chosen.
@@EffervescentPhantasm Edelgard's heart is steeled, Dimitri's is soft. That's the shortest way of summing up the difference between them, I think. Because of his softness, Dimitri is more vulnerable, but it's also what allows him to be strong in the end of Azure Moon. The difference between how they can open up, ultimately, doomed her and saved him.

All I'm saying is that this song wouldn't be the same without that god of a piano player in the background. He has some real finger dexterity to be doing that shit for 9 straight minutes. Not to mention the amazing key changes that give me a resolution to the theme that I've heard a few times repeated in the song, but in the new key it is refreshing.
I actually wonder if the piano is played live or programmed; FE music sounds a bit too unreal to be played by an orchestra ensemble to me; I would say it is masterfully composed and orchestrated with mostly virtual instruments, and very well mixed which gives it that incredibly powerful and tight feeling. I could be wrong though, and I would be very interested to learn more about the composition and recording process.
"PICK A GOD AND PRAY!" "I pick Sothis!" "Oh. Well in that case, HERE IS SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN!" EDIT: Sothis has answered my prayers. Byleth is in Smash and they're bringing this song with them!
I really love the Sothis chant at the beginning; it’s sort of a softer, hollow-sounding remix of The Spirit Dais which then transitions into a version of Edge of Dawn. At that point in the game she’s no longer a major speaking presence but the music reminds you of her influence as the Three Houses battle to reforge the beautifully screwed-up world she left behind.
For me i see it as byleth remembering sothis, she is no longer there, so this is their chance to pursue their path she sacrificed herself for, whichever path it is, wether it is to ally with edelgard or dimitri

Does this play in the map where you kill Edelgard tho? Doesnt it only play in th final fight with Rhea after saving her from Those who lurk in the shadow?
Kristoph Esiem This plays when you fight rhea in the crimson flower or when you fight Edelgard in azure moon. If you played silver snow first, you definitely heard funeral of flowers, and fought Rhea in the monastery, not in faerghus
I like how they put in the original Fire Emblem theme leitmotif into some parts of a lot of the music throughout the game smooothly. It seems like even though every single game in the series has an entirely different story with each other, they still 'remembers' the first and paid homage to it, making it more or less 'connected'. Very brilliant!

I'll never forget it. **Blue Lions Spoilers** Edelgard was 1 hit from death. At this point, all my units except for Byleth and Dimitri had fallen behind in levels and strength, so the two of them essentially duoed the fight. I had run out of divine pulses getting to her, and protecting everyone else in the army. I got nervous - Dimitri had taken a bad hit and was in kill range. The only unit left to move was my favorite - Ashe. He was just a sniper as I didn't really plan out class promotions on my first playthrough. Ashe had a 70% hit chance, and would kill! But if he missed, he was gone. I gambled on my favorite student to pull out the victory. He missed, and died. Enemy phase - Edelgard attacks Dimitri and dies on his counterattack. Ashe died because of a stupid mistake I made. He was my only permanent death of the run. I have his death ending screenshotted on my switch to always remind myself to not do that again. I really wonder how many people associate this one with Azure Moon's final boss or Crimson Flower's final boss. The title works for both honestly but I always thought the title 'Apex of the World' fitted a bit more the Immaculate One (being a bad ass dragon and the direct descendent of the goddess).
I think it fits Edelgard better considering she's the one who started the war and whether one thinks it was for better or worse it's undeniable she has the most influence on the current events of the plot and is pretty much the center figure everyone focuses on in any path.
Considering this soundtrack uses the main theme of the game which is sung by Edelgard's va and is used in 2 battles involving her, I think this theme suits the Crimson Flower route better
Should be Azure Moon, since you're fighting Edelgard and it's her song (but without lyrics). When fighting the Immaculate One in Crimson Flower, I just imagine that Edelgard's theme overwrote the Immaculate's Funeral of Flowers
I was working on an essay for a book and I put this on. My team mate came to me at the end of class and asked me how the hell I did a super good analysis and I said. MAH JAMS!

A few months ago in June I ended a year-long minecraft server with this bombastic bossfight I spent a whole month coding. I had this as the final fight's theme, and it's funny to me how when I hear it, I don't think of fire emblem, but playing minecraft with my friends. Honestly that server helped me get through the scare of covid, and this song just reminds me of how much time I spent with everyone there.
The little bit of the fire emblem series main theme at 4:34 really hits different. Personally, this is my favorite final map theme, but this entire games soundtrack is just stunning
This might sound weird but I feel nostalgic for hearing this song even though the game been out for a year I played mostly just this game during most of 2020 so I feel a bond with this game
Yeah god shattering star is hype but there is just something about this theme that makes me love it more. It just perfectly encapsulates most of the conflicts in the game. Edgelards regret and sadness but also her will to move forward, Dimitris extinguished rage which he has turned into determination to save Edlegard from herself, Claudes desire to make a free and open world for all, Rheas anger and pain she feels after she’s has been betrayed by the only person that truly mattered to her. This is by far the best three houses song imo and I will die on that hill.
Agreed. I don't really even like God Shattering Star all that much. It's not bad, but it's just so so to me in comparison to this wonderful reprise of multiple musical themes in Three Houses. I can listen to Apex of the World on loop, with or without playing the game. God Shattering Star to me only really works in the moment of the actual fight. I can't really listen to it as a standalone.
I always love how the vocals at 0:22 are the same as Sothis’ Theme! I feel that part of the theme has more relevance on Crimson Flower, cuz maybe it was like a lullaby that Sothis sang centuries ago for Rhea. A mother’s final gift to her daughter if she should ever stray off her path and corrupt. In that sense, Apex of the World is both a triumphant song welcoming a new dawn to Fodlan, while also being a dirge for the Children of the Goddess.
The game has an amazing ost. I just recently watched the Attack on Titan show which I now consider to be the best ost ever but this game is just a bit below that imo.
PLS play this!!! It is SO worth it. I promise!!! I used to listen to this song and never played a FE game either, and then I played this game and was hooked.
I have to congratulate Helping Hands for these amazing mixes. To be honest, I have been waiting since Awakening for someone to do the rain/thunder mixes of the dynamic FE themes, and you have been the only one I have seen to do it as it would play in the game when actually playing it, instead of full rain and then thunder. I like most of them, but this one and God Shattering Star are especially well made. Continue doing this, you have a good sense for it! And thank you VERY much! P.S: Dimitri, God-tier dodge tank! I freaking love how broken you are haha
Although Golden Deer is my favorite house, I have to admit that Azure Moon is my personal favorite path of the game. I really wish I went with the Blue Lions first, because this route HITS HARD!
In terms of endings, I’m glad I picked blue lions first, as the ending would’ve felt really underwhelming if I picked golden deer instead. (I was stuck between which of those two routes to play first, and eventually said, screw it, flip a coin) it also made fighting the agarthans and nemesis more interesting.
Well I can safetly say that GD does not feel a bit underwhelming, but I get the sense that BL route is a lot more personal, both have their charms and imo playing GD first allowed me see the world of Fodlan as an outsider, kinda of what Claude and Byleth were, and well know a lot of the Lore.
Catelyn Tully Yeah, I see your point, but in terms of lore, azure moon does next to nothing with it. What I’m saying is, if I did it in a different order, it definitely would’ve felt empty.
Something close to that does happen with Rhea's Spirit Battle: you fight a very weak Palutena and as soon as she's defeated, a giant white Charizard takes the field.
I'm kinda sad that the battle is "just" against the Hands. But I think it was a cool detail that alle the FE Charakters helped you out. And I somehow managed that everyone survived in my first try and I took no damage. I don't know how I managed to do that. But the Spirit Battle against Rhea is nice.
The real judge of each character is how they behave when Byleth isn't there to keep them in line. Claude completely ignores the real issues, Dimitri massacres countless innocent people, Rhea performs unethical blood magic experiments, and Edelgard does all three at once!
@@jkarma3356 What real issue? She knew nothing of the true history of Fodlan, so how can she know what was the "real issue"? Besides, you really think that throwing a *WHOLE CONTINENT* into a war won't kill countless innocents? She started the war, so the blood of all the innocents is on her hands.

The fact that this song nearly perfectly fits with edge of dawn, especially at 3:29 makes it so much more emotional to listen to. During edge of dawn El sings about her fears knowing what the future will bring her and apex of the world manifests those old fears one more time for a final push to ultimately end the church and lead fodlan to a place without divine interference. Also y'all have to listen to her FE Heroes voicelines. They are absolutely perfect and give you just a little bit more insight on how she truly believes what she is doing is right and that there is no other way. Ya it's small details like this that really make me love FE in general so much
listening to the first twenty-five seconds of this track always takes me back to first seeing edelgard or dimitri. having to see them and prepare myself mentally to fight against them. my heart is so heavy.
Agreed, the tone of the song is foreign to the world formed through the storyline of the other two routes. This song sounds like it belongs to the general overtones of the game. I think, along your lines, that it would be a spoiler of a change of theme in one of the routes.

"We must protect the present, after all, it's all that we really have" - Dimitri
Dimitri's character arc really was so great in a game that already has tons of characters. By the end of it he felt like someone fit to be king.
@@coffeefordinner The Savior King of Fodlan

Although Golden Deer is my favorite house, I have to admit that Azure Moon is my personal favorite path of the game. I really wish I went with the Blue Lions first, because this route HITS HARD!
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Smash World Tour 2021 Grand Finals Game 5. MKLeo and Male Byleth. What a team.
"Facing you... I grow weak."
“I am ferdinand von aegir.”
-Ferdinand von Aegir, dealing the final blow after half my force died and I was on one desperate last ditch attack.
Hahaha
Most of Engage's soundtrack can't even break the 100k viewership mark.
@Chillax Seriously. If there's one thing FE as a whole will always get right, it's the music. ☝
I just realized that Rathalos could be the Boss in Byleths Classic Mode in Smash because of the Church and Edelgard Route Boss.
It's be funny if it was Rathalos with a Palutena fighting alongside it
Something close to that does happen with Rhea's Spirit Battle: you fight a very weak Palutena and as soon as she's defeated, a giant white Charizard takes the field.
Salty Shunk oh yeah I remember that, thought it was cool until the charizard killed himself
Yeah, then I got to Master Hand and Crazy Hand and witnessed a horrible slaughter.
The way the instruments all just blend together so well in this is so impressive, from the violin to the drums to the piano to even the singers
Cosmos: Why did I pick boss music?
Hearing this theme and thinking of the lyrics near the end reminds me of what my students and I are fighting for.
This song makes me feel like I could just start sprinting and never stop for breath
The real judge of each character is how they behave when Byleth isn't there to keep them in line. Claude completely ignores the real issues, Dimitri massacres countless innocent people, Rhea performs unethical blood magic experiments, and Edelgard does all three at once!
not really edelgard is aware of the real issues also she does not go after innocent people either.
@@jkarma3356 Rip village Bois.
@@CatoSicarius903 that was tiwstd not her.
@@eliasacevedo9542 not really war was needed anyway also rhea started a 60 years long war as well and killed many more people than edelgard did.
Dude who knew that a song could bring tears to your eyes while being relentlessly badass.
Here before the wave of "BYLETH'S IN SMASH" comments
Not quite "before", I'm afraid...
You sure you're not a part of that wave, bud?
let's be honest, we've got too much fire emblem and pokemon rep in smash now...
@@BigAutisticDaddy And? All it is, is just another sword fighter. It doesn't outright change the game.
@@tyroneblackmann if the rest of the games had as much rep as those two I wouldn't be complaining, but as I see it now, it's fire emblem vs. Pokémon with friends. so many other characters the fans want other than another emblem boy, I personally wanted to see doom guy get in, his path paved by banjo and kazooie, but that's my opinion, and I'm not going to persuade you to adopt my preferences.
3:05 I love this part, it makes me feel motivated, and oddly nostalgic.
This song has been my addiction as of late. What gets me is the quote of Fodlan winds. It just blends super well with The Edge of Dawn
There's a mashup for Apex of the World and The Edge of Dawn in CZcams.
Wherever I hear this, I am forced to hear these lines:
"Edelgard must be in the throne room. I would love nothing more than to charge in and settle this once and for all ... but we must be mindful of the surrounding forces."
"Strange ... the imperial troops don't seem to be wearing their normal uniforms."
"We cannot allow our grand ambitions to be stopped by these beasts"
... I've heard them too many times: I've heard them MADDENINGLY much.
Lol. I haven’t yet played the game on maddening. I plan on doing my first challenge run (magic only, girls only, except maybe Sylvain XD for a harem), and then I will try maddening. I’m not looking forward to it but I gotta do it at least once
Sothis: PHOOEY!
Me: Sothis is babey and must protecc
Chapter 9: You failed
This song just keeps me going idk why or how but when I'm going through it this song helps alot.
Ya it's small details like this that really make me love FE in general so much
3:05 this part always gives me goosebumps
my fav too.
I cant stop listening to this song, its actually one of my favorite songs of all time and Ive never played the game.
listening to the first twenty-five seconds of this track always takes me back to first seeing edelgard or dimitri. having to see them and prepare myself mentally to fight against them. my heart is so heavy.
The people who aren't playing this game are missing out on seriously good music.
They can't put God Shattering Star in Smash because is kinda spoil-ish to the story
Id Purpose and Apex of the World: Hi...
Agreed, the tone of the song is foreign to the world formed through the storyline of the other two routes. This song sounds like it belongs to the general overtones of the game. I think, along your lines, that it would be a spoiler of a change of theme in one of the routes.
Along with how many versions of Lost In Thought All Alone? The bullshit klaxon is ringing at full volume rn.
Calamity Ganon Phase 2: 🤪
I’d love to sing the somber chanting part, but I can’t tell the language at all with how seemless it melts and sways into the pulsating feel of the background music
Pretty sure it's Japanese.
The only time we hear singing the singer doesnt sing any word ? Or maybe i missed something ?
@@whateverman187 It sounds like Japanese gibberish.
And it doesn't sound Latin at all
You can’t, it’s just gibberish.
"Why do suddenly I hear boss music?"
Listening to this as I start elden ring
Edleguard be like: " I reject my humanity, Dimitri!"
¡SO NO CHI DO SADAME!
Haha. Jojos
If i had to take on the world, this is the music i would listen to.
