HI FOLKS, JUST WANTED TO ADD THAT I USED TERRAM FOR THE SOAK AWAY WHICH IS PERMIABLE, Due to the video having a poor pic on there was some confusion. Just wanted to clear that up. Had no drainage problems since making the video. STAY SAFE
Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this video. Once summer comes around i will be fitting one in my garden. I was told you need to have an open pipe above the grates, so the displaced air can escape. So yours is working fine without one?
hi enjoyed your video mike , i wish to install channel drainage tight to my orangery wall then lay a porcelain patio area appox 6 metre wide x 2.4 out from the orangery . so then i fit the u bends from the outlet of the channel drain then run the 110 mm plastic pipe just passed the 2.4 distance off my patio area to be laid later on , then connect to the black pipe with the holes to allow the water to run in then to a 1 metre square crate soak away ps what do i fill around the black pipe is it pea shingle and what shoud the fall be per metre on the pipe i think i got it more or less right i hope ! i would be gratefull for any help ,as you say u only want to do it once / as we have a high water table in the garden , heavy rain the garden is like a sponge cake yuk thanks a million kind regards mark
Hi thankyou. Yes you have it right, id say. You can use pea shingle around the pipe, but any pebbles would work. If its only foot traffic then you could possibly get away with just soil. The fall should be at least 1/100. For such a small area you may not need 1m3. You should dig a sample pit like on the pavingexpert.co.uk site. If the ground is free draining then then two crates may suffice.
Nice work. I want to build a soke away for my shed roof which is about 30m2. I'm told a 1m3 soke away will do the job. These crates look like milk crates - Do you think milk crated will work?
If each stack will take the weight of a person i’d say yes. Bind each section together with wire. Id put a board over top to spread the load and obviously i’d say that would be unsuitable for a vehicle drive. But id say it’d be fine under grass. If you have free draining ground i wouldn’t worry to much about size. Im on a hill though so should ever be a problem with water logged ground. You only want to do it once though so make it right!
Why a p-trap for waste rainwater ? Makes it harder to clear if you have a blockage and a place for dirt, sludge and such to build up. Also impedes the flow in a down pour

P Ben All that info is all basic stuff really. The size of my hole with the exact dimensions is pretty clear. Soakaway should be 5m from house, info is plentiful from other sources. If your not capable of gathering basic info depending on your own ground conditions i wouldn’t attempt a project like this. All the best, thanks for stopping by. I’ll consider your comments for anymore videos i make.
