I was a Hungarian Minor before I turned 18.
(Sorry, I don’t get to use that joke very often)
Another great video, Rick. Thanks!
You were faster in writing this comment, but probably I was a Hungarian Minor before you. (continuing the joke)
zing!
😂
Zoltan Nemeth 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol
Rick Beato's videos are a composer's dream and a fantastic idea source. Wow.
Rick Beato's video helped ME lose 473 lbs.......well, his videos and the strict dietary practice of ingesting only crack and croutons.
THANKS RICK!! (AND crack and croutons.....couldn't have done it without YOUR help too!)
C Super Locrian is absolutely beautiful -- wow. After 23 yrs of playing multiple instruments I felt my playing was getting stale and your channel is a huge refresher and super educational. Thanks Rick!
Rick, a few things:
1) Brilliant as always! Your presentation matches your knowledge and pedagogical approaches as a music teacher!
2) The visuals you use to match each mode are breathtaking!
3) You should release an album featuring all of the songs that you write for videos like this. I would love to own a copy of that and I'm sure many other viewers would too!
This is more metal than 99 percent of metal bands out there
Recently found out Cannibal Corpse actually use this key a lot!
The extended chord voicings that spur from the Hungarian minor scale are hautingly beautiful and perfect for cinematic composition. Dude, thank you!
Please do a few videos on microtonal music, Rick!
Captivating piece! Bartok is Smiling☺️☺️☺️
...or, is he? This is pretty academic. Bartok was primarily inspired by folk music.
YES!!! Please dive more in depth into the the Hungarian scale.. once I heard it, it became a part of me and I want to know everything haha
Rick, you may have already explored this option, but with your immense knowledge and understanding of parallel scales/modes, you're a natural for film scoring! Another great vid!- Joe
Haunting and Magical
Would also be interesting with Hungarian Stringed Instruments
I understand maybe 20% of what you're explaining Rick, but still I keep watching your uploads because
!AMAZING! etc. etc.
Haha, same here! I have never understood the music theory lingo, but I have been watching a lot of videos on this topic, and I must say,the more I watch, the more I'm catching on...been digging this stuff for several years now
Awesome, I was just getting into learning Parallel tonalities not so long ago! What fantastic timing indeed my man, and great video as always!
Love the new Beato compositions we are getting, keep them coming Rick!
Absolutely gorgeous and complex composition!!
Király ☺️ köszi Rick
Rick, I hope throughout the music community you are appreciated. Honestly, your knowledge of music is top shelf. Thank you for putting out product like this video in general. I’ve been playing guitar for almost 40 years and have stumbled on a lot of these principles through trial and error and having an above average ear but you explaining them really glued it all together for me. Thank you.
Some of my favorite sounds-I look forward to watching this one over and over again.
Thanks Rick for another brilliant and informative video. Great stuff.
Thanks for opening our minds to new concepts Rick. Another gem in your catologe of inspirations.
I like that you've added compositions to two videos now... they support the presentation very well... thanks Rick
Movie score material, this is what you would be doing if you did not have a CZcams channel. For all I know you are already writing music for directors. Love those 32nd notes. Amazing takes your ears and mind to a whole different level. Now I have to turn on all the lights in the house! LOL 😱
I learn SO MUCH from every video you post. This one was a revelation. Thank you Rick!
LOVE this video Rick!!! Thank you for doing it. Man I love music so much. The more you learn, the more you appreciate it's beauty. - Your song was wonderful too, thanks for sharing it!
Thanks Rick! Great explanation, a very dark moody cinematic bit of score!
It‘s a really good piece. I enjoyed a lot.
Love your work. Thanks!
Great stuff! This is an example of why I bought the Beato Book!...I want to be able to get to know and to appreciate the more complex keys and understand how they could be incorporated into my compositions.
Thank-you :-)
This is how U use CZcams, sharing knowledge, helping musicians hungry for ideas, Rick, you are a master teacher on networks!, Profound and sincere! Keep on the good work and thank you, I keep learning with you, even as a pro musician with a lot of work behind. Priceless and free! Thanks for folks who support you!
Beautiful piece Sir Rick!
Wow😎. That is a very compelling composition. Love it🎸🎸🎸
I said this a couple of times already, but I just love what you are doing. best channel on CZcams.
Beautiful composition! It would make a great film score in my opinion
What a great tool to use, and keep in mind when composing. The piece you made really demonstrates the two scales' propensity for expressive statements when used together. I think it was also beautiful.
Better than pretty much any cinematic soundtrack I've ever heard. Great video, albeit I don't have the musical/mental capacity to fully comprehend it yet. I love your book Rick!
Great video, great composition. Miles Davis learned the Hungarian Minor as 'Egyptian Minor' at Julliard.
Hey Rick, big fan here! I tell every musician I know about you. I do have a request. Please do more episodes on bass. Your approach to music; all instruments are unique. Thanks!
Rick, great info and very cool piece.
I might be wrong but I think Randy Rhoads used this scale (Hungarian Minor) in his solo for the song Diary Of A Madman!
I'm so impressed with this. It is so interesting. Thanks for making these videos.
Amazing piece.. I love it.
Disturbing and semi-frightening sounds ... I love it! A suggestion: because these chords are so dense it really helps when you arp through the individual notes. Thanks for all you do, Mr. B!
What a piece! This is awesome!
Great video Rick, thanks for sharing this :)
Rick, just here to say thank you for being you. Very appreciated.
These colors.
Love the videos where Rick composes a piece to illustrate the concept 🥳
Love your videos, Rick!!
Brilliant presentation Rick. Your piano playing reminds me of Lyle Mays. Outstanding!
Man Rick. You've probably forgotten more music theory than I'll ever learn. Thanks for all of the free knowledge. 👍🏻
Great clip. Thanks Rick.
I feel like we need to see more practice videos on the piano. It would be nice to see you doing exercises like those you come up with for the guitar on the piano, maybe with an overhead camera view. Great video and composition!
Fav. episode, awesome piece! YMMD
Amazing, I could watch an entire video of you presenting those different voicings in Hungarian Minor.
You lost me right after, "we're gonna talk about". C Super Locrian sounds like a jar of vitamins I have in my drawer. ;) 5:34 Love the piece btw.
I know right? I understand nothing about advanced music theory, still hearing Rick talking about these things is strangely captivating.
Love the piece at the end too 👌
Another gorgeous piece
Man that piece has great colours. Superlocrian is amazing!
cool. love the dark imagery
Outstanding. Rick, you're the best instructor, all day, everyday. :0) even at 5 am
Nice composition! :)
These are my favorite videos Sir. 🙏
Mine too
thanks for these videos that delve into your book.
Wow, this is gorgeous stuff!
God man, the way you explain modes and compose for them and so on is just so damn inspiring because just "learning a mode" is that the same as what do you do nor has any teacher or player I've come across. Leave me speechless 99.9% of the time. Thanks for sharing so much of your time, wisdom knowledge and experience with us all!.... that feels so unsatisfactory of a thank you, as well, lol
I just left a comment similar to yours. Rick is such a good teacher. And the format he uses (thank God for CZcams) makes it so accessible.
@@mwdanny absolutely! I will say that Ben Eller has a really good channel (for guitar) as well! It's so hard to find musicians locally a play with because they're either too busy or already in multiple groups, it gets disheartening after awhile but alas. But yeah, thank God for the internet and his beato book and bundle are AWESOME!
Quick side note, I recently got the 2014 remastered edition of Rocksmith and I will say that is an absolutely brilliant way to not just learn songs but learn techniques, regardless of how long you been playing, and you can pick modes, Keys, whatever can set it up to where you play on one part of the neck the whole part of the neck have it randomly Shuffle, change to prove all that stuff so it really really ingrained in your brain, it also does awesome with a memory so when you're unsure if it's going to be the right note, there's a higher chance it will be because even though you can't remember the cord name or the mode you're playing in, you'll end up staying in the right one. I really wish I would have had that teaching game, focused on modes a whole lot more when I was learning, etc. I have plenty of data and technique, but is no substitute for being driven play in practice like when you first start out so better late than never to come across all free channels and tools!
Sorry for the long response, which I use voice to text with, which I did not proofread so hopefully Google didn't screw up the grammar too bad, it likes to do that, haha.
😊
🤘🏻🤙🏼 have a great one!!
Those spread voicings make a huge difference for me. I’ll see if I can apply those to guitar. Beautiful sound
I got a song out of one your earlier vids about the Hungarian Monor scale. I really enjoy these esp as you list the scale like I-II-BIII etc so it's easy to figure out in different keys. Thanks!
Love the composition! IG this one, too, please!!
Very happy to find someone with scholarly knowledge doing a deep dives. 10 minutes of school a day adds up over time.
Beautiful composition.
Great vid, again! I'm intrigued why you compose these tunes on piano given that (it seems to me at any rate) your primary instrument is the guitar. How refreshing though that you actually play the piano rather than just translate guitar playing onto a keyboard.
I loved this! Hungarian minor has been a favorite for years so it is awesome to hear your take on such a cool scale Rick...this may be a tie for me with the Darkest Scale Ever. Well done sir.
Beautiful Rick...love that...😅😀😀
Great videos Rick! Fun to see Stockholm and Sweden in there as well! :)
Great stuff, you'd be amazed how many corridors you unlock in my brain which lead to further self discovery, unbelievable! I just experimented with C Romanian major starting with the opening chord F#, B flat and E right hand over a left hand chord C, D flat, G, A (I got them spooky eyes!), modulating to C Hungarian minor, B harmonic major, B melodic minor to B flat double harmonic major to B flat Eastern Transylvania minor, so spooky it consists of just ghost notes! I was reluctant to use the Vlad the Impaler Dorian Double-Sharp Spike scale as rumour has it it's lethal!! :-)
Haunting; hopeful; energetic; serene; full and lush; aurally delicious. Really nice piece.
Rick i have to tell you that your videos are so helpfull and so cool.
I got arrested for using a Hungarian minor...
eeyyyy
Complex but fascinating. This is musician only stuff in my view.
One of my bands uses Hungarian minor from time to time. I'm a guitar player by nature, but glad I only play bass in that band...
''only play bass''? Bass is just as difficult to perfect as any other instrument. Great bass players sit in the song and drive energy through the mix.Your band is lucky is they have grabbed a great bass player.
Loving your stuff Rick, makes me want to pick up the keyboard (OK the mouse...) and compose!
Nice composition.
To me, it’s amazing that you’re able to compose a piece in these modes, because to me they sound so dissonant. I guess mainly because of the chromaticism. Very creative on your part.
Your lovely mates over here at Spitfire Audio will be plundering this knowledge, I'm feeling a Scanda-noir Thriller in the making. Thanks for stretching my mind Rick, this 67 year old need it.
You know your stuff!!! MR. Beato !!!
love this tones and melodies ...
lovely piece of music :-) I could not stop listening to it.
Beautiful! Thanks! \m/
Good Show keep this going
Wow! Bravo! Great piece, Rick! Did you also perform it???
That piece reminds me of Skriabin's works. Beautiful.
Lovely scales!
the piece composed for this video is freaking amazing!!!! put it for sale!!!
I was driving in my car with my 16 year old son when "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas came on the radio. Needless to say, the two of us rocked out for 5 minutes. I was reminded of something that Jack Black once said about the band Rush: "Rush is just one of those bands that has a deep reservoir of rocket sauce. A lot of bands - they've only got so much in the bottle. They use it up sometimes in one song." Unlike Rush, I think Kansas used all their rocket sauce on that song. Carry On Wayward Son is an amazing song and such an opus for a band that was never able to obtain that level of precision and excellence. Would love it if you could put it on your list for future "What Makes This Song Great?" series.
6:50 now I can clearly hear Jason Richardson here, thanks for cracking the codes here!!!
Brilliant!
I definetely went Stockholm/Sweden minor when I saw Old Town clips ❤ I love it!
Excellent!!
It was cool to hear Anthony Fantano give you a shout out. You definitely deserve it!
Rick you need to do another one of those streams with your assistant and that shredder dude about shredders of the 90s and of now.
Whoa! Some great sounds in there!! Like a HORROR movie ost
