If you're wondering why James Cagney at the height of his stardom is at a "poverty row" studio doing this picture instead of his home studio Warner Bros., it's because they wouldn't let him do pictures like this. Cagney just loved to dance, was excellent at it and also wanted to branch out into different roles. He thought he was headed that way when Warners agreed to let him star in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1935). But after that it was right back to the old type casting of gangsters. So Cagney made his demands, had a fight with Jack Warner, broke his contract and walked out of the studio. He spent a couple years doing films at other studios and started his own production company. But he did eventually go back to Warners , getting his way with different parts including the Oscar nominated "Yankee Doodle Dandy" (1941).

I was wondering about the title, as I'd never come across "Hollywood Hollywood" in the list of Cagney's films. Ah it's "Something To Sing About."

A story that was completely predictable AND full of charm! Didn’t care for “Rita’s” voice, but enjoyed all the talent, humor, fun and élan on full display every time Cagney was in a scene. Found myself wishing to go back in time ….. 🫶🌺😎🤩

Ya I really didn't like her voice in saying that she has talent just wasn't my cup of tea. I really love the act they did at the opening scene thought it was quite genius. Cagney sure has moves. I think I would have enjoyed it more if the leading lady was a different actress. Couldn't picture them as a couple for the life of me. I could picture Ginger Rogers as leading lady seems like a better fit( for me ). Loretta Young would have been fabulous as well I think. I absolutely adore her and think she's absolutely stunning and an amazing actress. After reading the comment at the top regarding the history of the movie I understand a little better about casting for this movie.

To those who whine about the evils of colorizing a film, just remember that the real world is in Technicolor.

Volvieron los 90 con la moda de colorear a algunos nos gusta el blanco y negro pero también otros les gustan los colores por computadora...y ahora es más rápido y fácil igual los clásicos también hay que verlos en el sepia original si a los chicos les gusta el cine ...
