Los Angeles Lakers defeat Orlando Magic 99-91 in overtime. Derek Fisher hit a big Three with 4 seconds left in regulation and another big Three in overtime to help the Lakers come back from a first half deficit. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 32 points. Dwight Howard was huge on both ends for Orlando with 16 points, 21 rebounds, and 9 blocks.

What should haunt SVG was not doing an offense, defense switch. Howard is a liability from the line. He is a liability late in games on offense. If it's not an and-one, you're holding your breath at the FT line. When you sell out to make sure Kobe does not get the 3 off, Fisher becomes open. Everyone should have been running at Fisher because everyone knew he was putting it up

i cant believe they didnt show kobe's pass with 35 seconds left... his best pass of the season probably the best play of the series other than fisher's three and it is so underrated, abc didnt even show one replay of it

just rewatched games 1-3 highlights. the magic actually held up pretty well and it could easily be 3-1 orlando if they took the OT games
If Courtney Lee didn't missed that game winning layup and Dwight didn't choked at the free throw line in game 4
I know if lee hits that layup and they don't blow this game it would have been a tied series at worse after this game smh

haha totally ... i remember watching this game too. i had already given up, thinking the series was knotted and then fisher happened! ultimately, the lakers won and i was so happy when they closed it out on the sunday!
so kobes spin move and behind the back drop off to pau to bring it to 3 in the last minute didn't even make the highlights back in 2009 but in 2022 jj reddick is saying it was the play of the finals

Orlando made 2 more free throws than the Lakers ATTEMPTED (while setting a record low 59% at the line)...and you don't think the calls went their way..?

It's amazing how sports always comes down to the little things. The details. Team that win Championships understand situations. The Orlando Magic missed FTs in their own building have snakebitten them. That had similar vibes to the Nick Anderson game in 95 Finals vs Houston. He missed 4 straight FTs. They had G1 in the bag, until those missed FTs. They were up 3. Allowed Kenny Smith to tie that game up with the late 3 to send it into OT, where you knew the Rockets would finish them and ended up crushing their spirits. That was the series. No different here. Howard just needed to make a FT. He missed both. Fisher gets to his spot and drains the 3. That was his inner Kenny Smith by the way. Once it went to OT, Magic were cooked. Magic had their chances to make their mark on that series.
That series should have easily gone back to LA. It had the potential to go 7 games with Orlando up 3-2. Courtney Lee's point blank missed layup off back door screen in regulation of G2 which would have ended that game and would have left LA with a split (1-1). Magic win G3 (up 2-1), Magic pull out G4 late without OT (up 3-1), Lakers win G5 (LA down 3-2) and G6 (Series 3-3). Classic 7th Game in LA. But due to the lack of detail execution and not capitalizing at the FT line when it counted, Magic lose in 5. Magic always get in their own way of success. And back to G4 for a moment, you cannot miss 15FTs in your own building in a NBA Finals game. That will certainly get you beat. Just ask the NY Knicks who pulled that same garbage in 93 ECF Finals, G5 at home vs Chicago. You know, the game many refer to as the Charles Smith game (why? I don't get it). If you watched that game, what lost it was their FT shooting (19-35 or so). At MSG mind you. You cannot do that and expect to win games. Not against MJ/Kobe. That was a great Orlando Magic team btw.

Game 4# was a critical game for both teams. If the Lakers would have lost, the series would have been tied 2-2. But Lakers point guard Derek Fisher would not allow the Lakers to lose. He went deep 3 fishing late in the fourth quarter & in overtime to help the Lakers pull off the victory & take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

It was deja vu all over again. The Magic missed FTs that could've sealed a win in the NBA Finals.
1995 against the Houston Rockets in Game 1, Brick Nick Anderson missed 4 FTs that forced OT and the Rockets win Game 1 and the series 4-0.
Here in 2009 in Game 4, the Magic missed 15 FT especially in the 4th and lost Game 4 to thr Lakers and the series 4-1.
