- Andrew Wright from SureFire again joins our own Caleb Savant to give us a rundown of SureFire's lights for long guns. In earlier episodes, he covered flashlights (handheld lights) and handgun lights. So what illumination options does SureFire offer for rifles and shotguns?
The Micro Scout is designed for use on very compact guns like the SIG Sauer Rattler. It runs on one AAA battery but still pumps out a respectable 300 lumens of light. A shroud extends from the back of the Micro Scout to protect its pushbutton tailcap switch from accidental activation. With the Mini Scout you step up to a 500-lumen output powered by a single CR-123 lithium cell. The Mini's shrouded tailcap switch offers both momentary and constant-on operation.
Need more power? The Dual Fuel Scout Light runs on two CR-123 batteries OR a single rechargeable 18650 lithium ion battery. With the 18650, it puts out 1,500 lumens in SureFire's "hybrid" beam pattern. The hybrid beam has a hot spot in the center and good, consistent peripheral flood illumination. This is a versatile, all-around workhorse of a light! Don't need the rechargeability? Go with the Scout M640 that runs on just the two CR-123s.
The Turbo Scout also uses the Dual Fuel system and has a high-candela beam pattern, meaning the beam is much narrower than the hybrid beam, so it has a longer reach. The full-size Turbo Scout puts out 700 lumens with the 18650 cell and 600 lumens with two CR-123s. The smaller Mini Turbo Scout runs on one CR-123 or one 18350 rechargeable battery. Max output is 650 lumens with the 18350, a little less with the 123.
All of these lights use SureFire's low-profile Scout Light Pro Mount. It's a two-part system. One part is integral to the light's body and attaches to a "cleat." The cleat attaches directly to the firearm. The light hinges on the cleat so you can position the light for easiest access to the tailcap switch. When you find the right position, tighten the cleat screw to lock the light in place. Caleb really likes how close to the handguard he can position the light with the M-LOK® cleat. Each light comes with M1913 Picatinny and M-LOK® cleats, so you don't have to pony up the spondulicks to buy a separate light mount!
What if you need a different switch configuration from the standard pushbutton tailcap switch? SureFire offers many remote switch and pressure switch options. You may need a new tailcap that has a socket for the remote switch. Dual-switch tailcaps have both the socket AND a pushbutton switch. Best of both worlds! - Sport
Surefire are very good products. I applied for a 2nd Mortgage on my home to see if I can afford the small pen light. I will have to stick to Stream lights, not as good but I can afford a few of them.
Watch the tests on the Torque Test channel where he puts a $250 Surefire up against other brands that are between $33 and about $100. It was not even close to being better than some much much cheaper ones. The channel That does the tests is not a weapons channel, they basically test mechanics tools and construction tools. They were not at all impressed with the Surefire light.
under appreciate comment
@@actionjksn the guy was sponsored by Olight in the description. Bought and sold. He’s reviewing a work light with the DF which is known to not be a great option.
I have both an Olight and a surefire. Olight is decent for messing around and giving to noobs to use on a cheap gun. Olight switch is cheap and the modes are stupid causing NDs to happen all the time with no lock.
I trust the scoutlight with my life.
Hell of a video, thank you Caleb and Andrew!
It must be good, greaser approved. Joking, you and your brother are great.
For my DDM4 build, I ended up going with the HRT Tactical WML. It’s super low profile as the MLOK mount is part of the body. It’s a candela monster and you can easily see very far out. Also, the tail cap is an ingenious design: it’s a 360 activation switch (think of a joystick) for momentary on, and a press in for constant on. They also have ND plastic rings to dial in how much pressure is needed for the momentary joystick style activation. I have zero regrets with it. Tactical Considerations has a video about it, which led me to choose that light.
Finally. I’ve been waiting since Shot Show 2022 for these.
Please cover streamlight lights for mounted applications!
I need to sit and find which if any of surefire models has the two nubs poking out with the female tapped screw holes. I have a Unity Tactical front sight scout light combo unit on one of my Rattlers. It only takes the type I mentioned above. The light on it now is just a streamlight model. It works well enough. But soon I want to mount a smaller light on my other rattler that's a canebrake. Then use that same mount and attach a white light on it. Preferably a surefire. Then just under that attach a surefire light again but that one be an IR light head model.
Anyways yeah I'll have to figure that out soon. Thanks good video
thanks
All that shoe polish in your guys hair! Looking tight!
Hair twins. Who wore it best?
Is that ideal to put iron sights in the middle of the rail?
Do you both use the same hair products? 🤣
Hoppes
That’s actually pretty funny.
The cleat on the Pro mount always loosens up. I've got several. No amount of torque works. There should be knurls on it so that it can be tightened down in like 10-15 degree increments.
Same.. I tried a surefire on a overbore systems SWVL which works like a pro with articulation but it’s rock solid. I have yet been able to get it to come loose.
@@younggun62369 I love Overbore. I think I have 4 of the night height Aimpoint Micro footprint and a couple of the MRO ones. I also have a Kenu for my EXPS-3 with G45. Small shop, but they are doing quality work for sure. SWVL looks really nice too.
Is that the Odin or the Odin mini?
Wish ya sold light and pad together
Do you and Andrew use the same hair products?
Ok but where turbos at
Does the scout have 71k candela or 100k? I keep hearing both. . and I think from the same guy.
The early videos before launch were saying 71k, final numbers are 100k for the full sized Scout on an 18650.
@SureFireLLC do they come with a 18650 battery?
Aren't Surefire lights rather pricey and are they worth the cost?
They can be pricey but they aren’t the most expensive. They are absolutely worth the cost.
Yes, and yes, buy American made. Buy once cry once.
There are plenty of other companies that provide better lumens/candela and throw or beam. Surefire is the end all be all…
@@timwilliamanderson Watch the tests of a $250 Surefire light against some other brands on the Torque Test channel. You will find some very interesting results. They are a professional grade tools testing channel and they test for fit and finish, performance and durability, such as drop tests. The channel has a good reputation for doing fair and accurate testing.
@@actionjksn I actually have watched the torque test channels tests. Probably one of my favorite channels on CZcams although they’re not really testing for things that I am buying surefire lights for (tail caps that will work with my night vision laser recoil resistance etc)
MYTH: Chrome is better than Nitride for shooting steel cartridges, and will result in less sticking.
Good Video!!!! I HAVE SURE FIRE LIGHTS ON SEVERAL OF MY RIFLES!!!! NO M- LOCK!!!!!
Waitaminute...is Savant his actual last name?
I thought this was going to be a pomade video
1920s called they want there hair styles back
surefire. too little too late. the tactical dummies love it!
Nah, those who've used them prefer them.
Yeah they cost more, but those who can afford them buy them.
Get a real job?
Also tail switches that work with my laser are quite important
Nothing dumb about having a combat proven light, so I have used it overseas for years in terrible conditions. It has never failed me and has a lifetime warranty. Buy American
Nice hair boys...lol
I personally like surefire. I run their supressors and brakes, but the cost of a flashlight being over 400 bux NOT including the pressure switch which is another 120 AND then you need the tailcap another 100 bucks just makes it outlandishly overpriced. Kind of gross tbh and to hear the surefire rep talk about saving money is just almost insulting. Smh
So to wrap up the comment section: hair, surefire is expensive, and streamlight. CZcams is funny sometimes.
You can't afford to not run a light. You can't afford a surefire either.
If you have bad spending habits, then maybe for you. it's really not expensive, save up and shop around.
@@zack9912000 it’s a joke son, ya missed it…
So much comment trash in here…
The Torque Test channel did a test with a $250 Surefire light against some other ones that start at $33 to about $100+ and it was not exactly dominating the cheaper lights in performance, fit and finish or durability. It badly lost the drop test to about a $90 light. They are nice bright, sturdy lights but massively overpriced.
That $250 light also had an obsolete micro USB charging plug instead of the modern standard USB-C. An elite class $250 flashlight should have the newest, at least 4 year old USB-C charging standard , rather than the very old and inferior micro USB port. The testers were pretty puzzled by that. But that wasn't the only area that it performed worse in.
As far as its real value, it was maybe a $50 to $70 light at best if we're being perfectly honest. I don't object to someone making a flashlight that expensive, but if you are going to charge that much, then it should check all the boxes and be perfect and completely dominate the cheaper flashlights in every other way.
The Torque Test channel is a very reputable mechanics and construction tools testing channel and they know nothing about firearms accessories and didn't know anything about Surefire lights prior to the tests. It was just another flashlight in the tests and they had no idea why it was so expensive. After comparing it to the other much cheaper lights, they really had no idea why it was so expensive.
Cloud defensive
Sorry, surefire is overrated and overpriced for what you get. Cloud Defensive, AKA the King of Candella, is where its at.
You heard of LEP flashlights?
coomer brand
Modlite
Unreliable buttons and they’re known to flicker on by themselves
I wish their lights were more reliable, their tail caps and pressure switch suck.
