  • My editor keeps the sound pitch correct in a timelapse so it makes mowing an overgrown yard a real trip to watch! Looks like it's cutting this tall thick grass at 30 mph! This is footage from the first time I mowed my largest yard. Still have it.

So which blades are you running here, as I've spoken to the man down on the bottom of the planet. Very interesting setup he's developing, and I see he's added some new additions to the line up.
Even still, I'll have to change mandrels to use any of them, and then I have a lot of uneven surfaces with a high sand content to the soil. So as nice as they cut, that's a lot of expense, considering how quickly blades get used up, just by the sand eating the steel, and considerable more sharpening is required also due to this fact.
That's not figuring any losses due to clipping a high spot in the dryer months, and warping a blade or two, because the soil gets as hard as concrete in places. With the leading edges turned down as they are, even shorter mandrels aren't a sure fix to that problem I've to deal with.
So still debating giving them a try, even the newer models he's released here of late. Question is, have you clipped anything solid, are any contact with the ground, and if so results of that mishap?
If you don't mind letting me know, if something of that nature happened while using that which I'm speaking.

lol, well, yes. I hit a sidewalk coming out of a ditch. The blades won the battle! There is a huge gash in the sidewalk. But very much my fault. You have to remember those downward teeth! That was the big reminder and I think I can remember now.
So John's new Finisha blades are extremely good and pretty much as capable as the Beast blades. He says the Finisha blades are significantly cheaper to buy than the Beast blades. So that helps. Curiously today I switched back to Gator blades to see the difference. I used to swear by the Gator blades but they felt like I was swimming through seaweed! A lot more resistance than the Finisha blades. And they were sharp! I'll be putting the Finisha blades back on tomorrow and leaving them on. Much better than Gators.
Oh, ironically as you asked, I am actually using Gator blades in this video. This was filmed a while ago before I had any Kavli blades. Yes, John is a mower blade genius. I truly don't understand why they work so well, but they do!

@@Something2LookAt Easy, draw you a picture of it so you can see how the turn down cuts as it passes through, then its thinned down where the hi lift blade can actually hold it up. then as the blade goes round full circle, it gets any loose ends and thins grass again .
Which this makes clippings smaller, and easier to pass across to next blade, which in turn mulches it finer, as it tumbles through to the third blade.
By then it's mulched pretty small compared to even Gator blades, because you notice, how many times you mowed the clippings on top of mowed grass, before it was mulched fine enough to settle into grass, instead of laying on top.
But my mower deck without changing mandrels, wouldn't make it far, before I'm chewing dirt. Add in the sand content, and blades get simple sand blasted into nothing in less than one season.
Rarely have a set lasted full mowing season, between the crawdads, fire ant mounds, and the gritty nature of the soil. Sharpening at least every other cutting, if not every isn't unusual.

audio tracking in time lapse isn't that stellar - at .quarter speed it's all 8 bit audio. sadface.

Ok. Well, why are you going to quarter speed? I just meant the pitch is correct.
