We got ourselves a series! Nobody expected it to be easy, we all knew this series would lead to some great hockey. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl put on a performance for the ages in Game 2 of Canucks VS Oilers series. Let's break it down and talk hockey as well wait in anticipation for Game 3 when the series moves to Edmonton.

This is awesome having a pro breaking it down. I'd love to see a merit system for NHL officials. Players get sent down to refine their skills, coaches get fired being held to a standard. But not officials seem kind of odd to me.

Appreciate your insights from a player's perspective (most under-appreciated centre in Canucks history...and I don't say that lightly). Especially appreciate you sharing keys for us fans who may not be in tune with what's hidden under the surface idea of playing at the NHL level: player thought processes, coaching tactical considerations, the reality of circumstances beyond anyone's control (we call it "life"...or "$h!+ happens"), and what it takes to get past all of it to stay on track.
On a side note, as a techie, I like your updated YT setup: background pictures, better camera, not sure what else I may not see...keep that rolling. :)

The fact that the Oilers double shifted 97, 29, and 18 in Game 2, tells me they're gonna be out of gas in this series. It's not sustainable to put them out there the majority of the time and not deploy the rest of the line up.

The guy had something like 48 hits in 9 games played , THAT being on 4th line only with 9 mins average ice time per game
One shift in first 5 mins of a game he recorded 4 hits
    QUESTION for brendan is
Is it normal for coaches to save guys on sideline in playoffs for round 2 or 3 , basically keeping them fresh purposely ?
Are we not in need of a fresh podz and fresh juulsen ?

I think we need to talk about the refing more. I think the refs need to be held accountable and explain themselves post game, like the players do. They have no accountability except to the higher agenda. If that wasn't McDavid, the stick would have been called, 8 eyes saw it, and it drew blood. It should have been 5 and a game. Sutherland then has a choice after he blew it, to tell McDavid to quit whining when he gets shoved in the corner. This combined with the spear to the crotch of Hoglander and Petey going head first into the boards, with the follow up elbow was absolutely brutal. Yes, you can say Zach Krushelnyski got a tap on his visor and went down like Forsberg in round one, but this clear one sided refing to Edmonton's advantage is really hard to take. You add that with the Coilers fans being worse winners than losers all through social media, what an insufferable fan base. You watch the Dallas , Colorado series and they play within the rules and respect the game....and then you see that clown 🤡 Kane at the other end , slew footing Huggy whenever he wants.
On a positive note, Draisaitl is an absolute beast and a a fucking beauty. Regardless, if Van loses to the one line and the refs , Edmonton will get destroyed by Dallas or Colorado.

Hi Brendon, I went to game two and it was my first playoff game. When i watched the Mcdavid line, they dominated especially with Evan and Mattias at the blue line. No Canuck line could keep up with their passes, speed, and controlling of the zone. Also Silovs is a really good goalie, however he had some trouble when he went behind the net to retrieve the puck. Anyways I like your videos, keep it up. YAYAYAY

I think Petey is gripping the stick a bit too tightly this year. Seems like his sticks are exploding or he's whiffing on empty netters more often than usual. Was great to see him pot a goal though. We need him going if we want to go deep. I think we lost this game cause of bad plays defensively. I won't blame the refs. I can forgive missing a high stick, maybe, but a high stick in front of the puck, and he's bleeding. If anything, refs shouldn't be near a game where they're that bad. I get he's upset that they changed the rules of hockey in 2004 and they long for the days of the 80s and 90s, but it's stupid that a ref can basically change a game because he wants to call it like a different era of hockey 🤷‍♂️
