The service at the garage was a good move, the mechanic knew his stuff. That was enjoyable. Cheers, Rob.
Yeah its about knowing what's likely to go as well as what is going and what's gone.
A good example of the need for proper maintenance. To spot future issues before they become major and potentially dangerous problems.
And find yourself more work at the same time.
A well deserved service for the 'Benz', looks atreat as well Matt. Many thanks for your continuing videos and for keeping us entertained. Stay safe and thanks again.
Now thats a proper mechanic !! 👍
Great video Great mechanic and best looking C class W204!
Nice to see and hear a mechanic who knows the vehicles he works on. Here in NZ my experience with specialist guys has been poor. They seem not know the foibles of the cars they work on. So now I use online forums, CZcams and then do the work myself. (Most of the time)
Experts at work great viewing and a lovely looking car
Stevensons BRILLIANT thanks for the video
Great video, good to see all the inside knowledge & tips at the MB specialist. Completely agree with the new plates: I also refreshed mine with raised font types and it just looks so much better. Looking forward to your 5 Series film :-)
I've got a 2017 W205, same colour as yours, love it!
Another quality production.
That mechanic was fantastic. Very, very thorough.
Keep up the good work.

Thank you! Yes, he was really good. He checked it over for the last A service as well and I was very pleased with the service so filmed it this time
This is a good video, I'd love to be local to this chap, I like the knowledge and approach with no money making BS.
Smart motor for a daily driver. Good of the mechanic to let you under the ramp while working on it.
Now thats a cool phone holder! i hate most phone holder designs but that one is cool as
It almost looks like a factory design, I hate goofy looking ones that dont fit the look of the car
@@furiousdriving Yeah its the same as the non factory looking radios they make my OCD go mental! and people sticking those silly air fresheners to the dash
Aha, that explains why my clutch felt so much better after changing the brake fluid! I used to have an issue where after a long run of remaining in 6th gear, the clutch would be slow to return- fixed by the fluid change. Wish I knew of this specialist when I had my W204... I went main dealer every time!
320k on my c350 4matic and its an amazing car. Regular service and the car still drives like new with no faults.
cheers, enjoyed the video....
Awesome video, sir! We don't have many of those in the US. Mostly sedans.
Thanks, and thats a shame they're a great wagon!
I love that car 😍
Its a keeper!
w204 is probably the best ever Mercedes in terms of design, quality etc. glad to own one and i wish my car look as clean as this w204
I like the W204, but I much prefer the W203. Especially the interior. The plastics in those W203s look better quality than those on the W204.
Interesting stuff ,and that's service getting ya key fob battery done too, genuine MB ones 9.99 for 2 on a well known site. Lovely car
Beautiful car Matt. My son runs a 2006 CLK 220 CDI. He also has a 1991 MR2 T Top for good days, but he loves the Merc and we have a a very good specialist locally so I will play him your video and encourage him to let the local guy look her over a bit more regularly. Cool hat. I think I am going to get stick but the Tomcat t shirt looks so striking that it is now on my list. Don't tell Hubnut I haven't ordered any of his gear yet. 😉
Haha, I wont say a word to Ian!
Excellent Matt! Especially looking forward to the BMW 5 series video :-D
Out today!
I can recommend iClever jump starter packs. I bought the 800A one and it saved my bacon half a dozen times on one charge with tons left when my battery gave up.
Great video, just put my W204 through its latest service, and honestly can't fault the car. My latest project is to fit an aftermarket stereo... challenging, but fun and rewarding!
What did you go for, Ive found a couple that might do it
@@furiousdriving I went for www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/dmh-a3300dab/specifications , however with everyone in lockdown, I struggled to get a replacement multimeter, I was short of other bits and bobs, which I hadn't planned for. The rotary wheel for Comand failed I week before i fitted.. Like you, it seems to be one step forward and a couple back!
In the old days we used to pop rivet the plates on and put little caps on the rivits. Harder to nick them unless the thieves had a 3mm drill...
Harder to pop rivet onto plastic these days, the thief would take half the bumper!
Love those number plates ,shame they still have the About to be Defunct Euro logo . Hope they were cheap, great video, stay safe .
Its period correct - when its a classic in 20 years we'll all be getting them made like old dealer plates!
You were lucky to get it done...my independent VW garage locked down a month a go
Nice hat!
Love that hat!
Much prefer independent garages and it’s nice to have them. I use one for mine and they are a lot better than main stealers... hes a great mechanic. I’ve come across so many seized bonnet catches, Mk5 Golfs are THE worse! Interesting video Matt, great to watch!
He knows his stuff! That garage was in the Car Throttle Mega Spec S600 video as well.
Oh god those basic LED bulbs are so irritating lol. I’ve got the same DA buffer as you, it’s great! I am totally with you on the number plates to! I got some local dealer plates made up with my personal plate. I’ve got all my old plates too haha 😆
They totally confused the computer, all flashing separately! Check out ukmetalplates they will sort you out, and its not a proper garage without old ones!
I fit the pressed metal plates to all my cars, really stylish. Screw the buggers on though lol
I might have to!
Glad to see a copy of my Jaguar X-type (same colour) in the background at the beginning of the video :)
Thats a nice car, Lloyds Vehicle Consulting have actually reviewed it!
@@furiousdriving oh that's the same one? I've seen that video already!
N M if you look close you can see me filming his Astra in the background of that video!
@@furiousdriving true! Cheers from Lebanon! 🇱🇧
Did laugh was watching your video when the wife walked in and said “ why you watching woody from toy story “ think she means your new hat 😂😂
oh dear..
I have a w204 petrol, I spend a lot of time messing with other cars and the Mercedes just works with no fuss. Last MOT my brake pipes showed corrosion exactly where your mechanic pointed, It has just begun so I cleaned it with wire wool and painted it will stonechip and then it passed no problem. I have been servicing it myself for the last couple of years and I change the oil twice as often as recommended ( old habit, don’t care if it’s unessesary) . This year I may get a proper b service at a specialist and let them check all the areas that I would not know to look. It’s 10years old now and it still looks and drives like a brand new car.
They are such good cars and the looks haven't aged. Interesting about the brake pipes.
When I had a 5 Series I was doing extra oil changes as the internal was too long, I should do that with this as well really
Just subscribed mate
Thank you!
I like the snuggery service lift.
So in England and then suddenly in Canada and I thought you were an Australian, with that hat, ha ha ha Great!!
Independent Mercedes specialists are a much better bet for a car of this age than a main dealer, looks like a decent one!
He certainly knows his stuff
@@furiousdriving, it definitely seems that way!
Damn good looking car the W204 estate
It is a great looking thing, cant wait to get the summer wheels out of storage
This Mercedes specialist and the mechanic was featured in a CarThrottle video also.
Thats correct
wow down in Victoria Australia we can only purchase number plates from VicRoads the equivalent of the DVLA in the UK, they are also very expensive at about 150 quid for a pair of Euro style plates & ours are the same colour front & rear.
None of ours have any dealer markers on them at all the dealership put their own covers on instead. The actual plate is always pressed metal & they are screwed in with special 1 way screws. Everything is done through one central agency here in Victoria (Australia). we are not allowed to take the number plates off the car other than if they are bent or damaged.
I discovered this recently, Mercedes code for their sedans start with a W, and the wagons start with an S. So W204 is the C class sedan, S212 is the E class wagon. Don't know how consistent they were with this, or if they still use that though.
You can see where the costs mount up, fast.
Stevensons (spelt incorrectly in the description) Mercedes Benz Specialists really do know their stuff. I'd noticed the new pressed plates in a few of your latest videos with the W204 in the background. Could the new phone holder be the reason of your flat battery? Stay safe Matt.
You guys are my sub-editors..good spot! They've been on a week or so now but was waiting to fit this video in, trying to work out of I could get my summer wheels back somehow! The battery has been dying for a while, cranking slower and slower but OK if the cars used daily, a week on the drive killed it! The lighter socket is switched..Im going to have to spring for a new battery when we are free again
Fun fact, I've watched this video yesterday, this evening I found that the exact same brake line corroded and leaking 😢😂😂
That is a lovely looking car, definitely doesn't look 10 years old!
Im going with 'Timeless'
Hi Mat, great video 😃 Could you advise on the cost of the B service and associated parts and labour please?
I forget as we changed the service as the air filter was done last time and the fuel filter this, plus we added the brake fluid change, and each model will be slightly different, but from phoning to compare on both A and B services its just under half a main dealer charge.
Great Vid, sterling mechanic, hope it wasn't too expensive and he waived his appearance fee!! ;-)
He's very thorough, the service was good value but his Equity fee was through the roof!
Great Video, but can you post the link for the phone holder thingy please?
There are a few links in this one! Its 3rd down but here as well - amzn.to/2yTd9pF
Just bought metal plates for my Nissan pulsar. I think they look so much better. Went for plain plates with no country of origin on them as I don't go abroad and the car came with them anyway, I wanted to get rid of the supplying garage name as they were very poor at customer service and sold me a lemon.
I can understand that, once bought a car from Thames Fiat in Tunbridge Wells as they had the right car in stock but they were the worst dealer Ive ever dealt with, it leaked and over 6 months they had it 3 of them, including leaving it outside in a week of rain so it was full of water. If we'd kept it it would have lost the dealer plates!
Did you have to send off any paperwork to get those plates? Another company I was looking at wanted you to send logbook and proof of address. The Car looked great after a good clean, the colour suits it so well.
Yes, the DVLA require you to do that now, to prevent fraud. Thanks, Id forgotten how much mica sparkle it has
Love those number plates, where did you get them???
ukmetalplates.co.uk
quite like that shape merc, didnt like the front end on the previous model, but that one looks quite sharp, and yes them sat navs are awful in Mercs, my 2018 vito tourer sat nav was piss poor and had to use my phone , now drive a vauxhall vivaro and sat nav in that is amazing compared to the mercedes
I had Seats for a while and the nav on them was so good, a real let down going to a much better car but the worst nav Ive ever used!
Will you be doing a video on all the cars you have owned?
Very likely in the coming weeks, lots of hard drive and old photo envelope hunting needed first!
Nice weather, can't go out, time to wash the car.
And cut and polish! Fill a whole day on it
I am a bit worried about your front plate being metal and with that bend is the self adhesive strips going to hold
it did curl back so I had to cut it off with a long knife and bend it to shape
It’s a very good looking moneypit still 👻
Didn't know you can get pressed metal plates in the UK
Yes, and they look so good too
@@furiousdriving Except for the EU flag :P
Because the previous model c-class were a bit rubbish Mercedes spent billions developing and testing this w204 model. This is by far the best Mercedes of its day. We had a C180 Komp BE for 4 years and 50,000 miles and literally nothing at all went wrong normal servicing and I have no doubt another 100k would not have troubled it either.
You will change the brake pads and disks yourself matt I think euro car parts is open for delivery only
Id rather use proper Merc disks as its got the AMG ones, Stevensons can get them and fit them for about the same as I can buy them so may get him to do it
@@furiousdriving yes I woud if it going to cost the same that mechanic knows his stuff about Mercedes you should get easy 200k out of that car
Is the E-class simular to the C-class mechanicly?
Yes, you could get the same engine and transmission in both, and they share many under skin components, but are a different chassis
Maybe you should ask him to join your channel ? You might get some cars finished? 😊
I was number 500 who like this video so Thumbs Up!!
How much was a service this Thorough? And when is the 740 for sale 😉👍
I forget (it was a month ago!) as we added the brakes and it varies per car but generally about half main dealer cost, so between £300-400 depending on A or B service and the model
Your car is in a great condition. How much did the service cost?
Thanks, the last owner really looked after it too. It was half the main dealer price
Great vid ! What do you use for tyre shine ?
That was Daimondbrite Replenish - I love that stuff! amzn.to/2REux82
Thank you will have a look.
Was looking up the mileage of your Merc and was surprised to see it's registered as a petrol vehicle ?
Guess you knew that.
Edit - just checked the DVLA and they have it right!
I did not, thats never shown up at an MOT and Ive only ever put diesel in it
@@furiousdriving
Was on the Gov check mot site, wondered if it would make a difference to the ulez next year which will be on my doorstep !
Unfortunately my 2000 Audi won't be allowed in 😞
On my old S60 they dvla had it down as a estate on the logbook
Good video as always, interesting to watch a service and the plates really suit the Merc
Are license plates personalized in England?
only if you pay for one, otherwise you get the one the car is assigned when new
@@furiousdriving Thanks
Water hose soap water and sponge. That’s it. No other crap needed.
I find it interesting that metal license plates are not the norm in the UK, and that they are held in place by two-sided tape. Is there a reason that the front and rear plates are different colors?
Mines held in with screws, through all the nice protected paint work. Grr
Number plates ideally stay the same for the life of the car, so tape can be better than screws in this application.
I assume the different colours for front and rear is just to differentiate between front and rear.
The different colours are so the police know if you are coming or going 😁
Not sure why, but plastic is cheaper but the letters fade quite fast. The requirement is for being reflective (and size, font etc) so as they are reflect lights its OK. The colours are so you can see if its the front or back of the car in the dark, and the tape is optional but means you dont have to drill a hole in the wrong place or sploil the clean look. Some use the screw tops to illegally change the letters to spell words though!
Also makes cloning far easier.
You ought to treat that Merc to a non-dating plate..... would be near-impossible to tell its age unless you were an M-B "anorak". Does a teflon paint treatment work? I've got a 3-year old Ford on PCP (about to buy it outright) and the paint is the worst I've had on any car, so soft that you only have to look at it, and it chips. Autoglym SRP does not seem to have made it any less prone to damage
Id thought that, its hardly dated at all, maybe I could swap the plates with the 230E! The teflon is good for keeping the car clean and repelling road dirt and looks good as its a wax but cant protect against chips, you'd need a physical barrier so a clear wrap is the only thing that could protect against chips
How much do you normally pay for a service like this?
About half the main dealer cost, depending on model
Did I hear that correctly? A plastic oil sump? My god.
Not this car but some, yes!
Car giant, what category right off is that thing 😂😂😂
C AND D!
You just need canbus bulbs as with nearly all German cars since late 90s
Bizarrely on my golf, you have to reverse polarity on rear fog and reverse light...
So did you pay for this service?
Ps you didn't link your hat or buff in the description.
I did pay, and oops, it was late last night! Edited now but here are the links - Tilley T3 amzn.to/3ehG4Eh or at Village Hats www.hatsandcaps.co.uk/tilley-packable-hat-t3-khaki-p400806/ and Buff scarf amzn.to/2V9OWUP
Both are the highest UV protection so count as PPE so if you work outdoors can be bought for work and claimed for (if you have a nice company!)
@@furiousdriving that's cool. I would state that next time. Your intro at the garage sounded very pluggy. I don't particularly mind either way as long as it's clear. I would rate a personal endorsement much higher than a paid for one, so you're doing the garage a disservice by not making that clear :-)
Well it might be full of plastic parts but that paint looks good, my 7 year old vag product suffers from paint blisters due to stone chips from motorway miles, as a result with best effort diy patching (ie crap) it looks awful under close scrutiny.
Mercedes are famous for hard paint, great for repelling chips but a nightmare to repair when it does!
To refill or completely replace certain fluids why did this Mercedes mechanic not use a funnel?
A funnel costs almost nothing and is many times more convenient than pouring it from the packaging, such as oil or coolant, window cleaner, etc.
1 more thing i thought that was Steve Jobs saying ? ? ?
well he (the mechanic) was definitely old school hands on, a Mercedes specialist? Oh and believe me matt i dont live too far from car giant, and everyone buys from there in the local 10 mile radius, and the first thing you do is replace the car giant logo reg. plate and stickers. They dont have the best reputation!!! (try and do it within 1.5 months, not 1.5 years)!
haha, I got it from a small indy car dealer but have been meaning to do that from day 1!
@@furiousdriving Ok then your forgiven! but while your at it, (we all have a bit of time on our hands at the moment) I was thinking may be, just maybe you might consider changing your Sinclair logo on your C5 with COMMODORE?!
Strange I thought under EU law any garage can stamp the service book.
Any garage can...as long as they pay to log into the Star Service computer
Your garage ceiling is barren. Looks like you need number plates sent to you. From all over the world of course! ;-) Do you have a PO Box?
