Thank you for the info. I’ve used the DE in around a patio and house bump out crawl area. We’re having trouble with ants and millipedes in the bump out area. And then work their way into our foundation and into the floors. I will try this.
This is an excellent video. I had a bed last year that I was unable to use due to the ants, so now I know how to get rid of them once and for all. Thanks!
Since it has been so hot ,humid(Rainey) & hot the ants have moved into my house...I wonder if this would work??..my grandma used boric acid for roaches& ants
Keep in mind if the planter or the flower pot has been sitting for a while it’s a home for the ants after the rain comes be sure to move your pots around in the garden or lawn. Because you never know where the ant hill will pop up at. Also in the beds be sure the sweet fruits tomatoes and yams as they grow keep the leaves dry and any dead leaves are sugar sweet if the die remove them from your beds. To keep from feeding the ants.
So cute. I am listening and thinking what is grits. Did she say grits? Until I saw the container I wasn’t sure. Can I use oatmeal? They don’t have grits at the store here.
@@cultivatingorganicbyjomig1719 Thanks for the video. Please tell people to be very careful when mixing DE. If the dust is inhaled it's not good for your lungs as it sets like concrete. This is true for pets too.
@@missym7245 I used food grade DE. Human can actually drink it but, good advice as far as inhaling it. I actually wears mask whenever I have to pump DE to cover a big area. Thanks, I will try to remember it next time I have to use DE.
Great video :-) I just wanted to ask users to please use gloves, a mask and goggles when applying diatmaceous earth. It can be a throat and lung irritant! It's not the greatest thing to get into your eyes either.
Yeah, not like they're going to take it back to the nest. However, ants might simply avoid it without the bait. You want as many worker ants to die as possible.
Honestly, I never though of keeping track how long it took. I just simply put the DE/bait and keep it in place. I make sure the bait stays dry and within 2 or three weeks, I guess, they are gone. Sorry, I'll be sure to take note next time.
I am not a very detailed person. I believe however, that because DE is the main ingredients it should have the highest percentage in the mix. I use no specific brand of sugar and grits or cornmeal. If the mix contains three components, I believe that DE should be the predominant ingredients I would give a percentage of approximately 60-20-20. Please remember that this is my approximation to give you an idea. You might formulate a better ratio than my suggestion.
It's ok if you are only using it to get rid of ants or other bugs. I bought food grade because I also use it for my poultry, dog, and most important I dust my organic vegetables with it e.g. tomatoes and green leafy vegetables to prevent from bug infestation.
@@cultivatingorganicbyjomig1719 Thanks for your respons. If I understand you very well, when I use the D.E earth in the part of the garden with Aloe Vera, Cactussen, Oregano, Moringa you would advise to use the foodgrade? Or in this case what we are having in the garden ... with exception of the moringas, we wash everything before using, you would advise?
@@vickyrafael1 For myself I will never used non-Food grade DE on any of my plants. For what it's worth, Food Grade DE is safe for human careful consumption, however, you are right, I do advise for all the produce to be washed thoroughly. It is a common habit anyway.
Good for keeping ants out of the house and from becoming nuisances, but ants do have a purpose in that their tunnels can aerate the soil [like worms do] which is beneficial to the plant roots and soil health. Aggressive fire ants or red ants you do not want, of course. Also, be careful it isn't put where the bees can get to it. Bees land on other things besides flowers. DE is a great product [no chemicals] but just think about how and where you apply it.

The grits are actually the food that ants will gather. Every grain will be coated with the fine powder of DE. It's the actual bait that serves as vehicle for the DE to be distributed to the entire colony.

Great idea! Thank you for sharing!
Covering the plant with a plastic bag will increase moisture under the bag due to transpiration.
it is safe
just have to be careful if you sprinkle it on your plants be of the bees pollinating

Very good video on how to use DE for ants. I have ants in my raised beds and pots at times and haven't used DE as a remedy but will try it. Thanks.

May I know how are you going to water the plant which the substance not suppose to get wet?
It drys back up and will work again.
What the hell is the "bait" for?. You don't need any bait. Just spread it all over your garden on a dry sunny day. Thats all. DONE.

Hi, question my only concern is if I add the sugar it will bring more ants?
Potentially, but then it will kill them too.
What is the grits?
Does it kill queens?
What is it the sugar is mixed with? Either I can't hear what she's saying or I don't know the word.
Grits or mashed dried corn. Made for human consumption. Often for breakfast, wheat , oats even crumbled up dried bread/crumbs will do.
If it dont rain for 3wks its great. Otherwise it gets wet and do want work
What's DDT powder.. please explain me..
Oh daddy...🥰
DE for ants; why has this to be FOOD Grade as I have NON FOOD-GRADE ... already. Thanks
The DE I just bought did not work. I think it's fake or at least not pure. 😢
won’t it attract other ants from other places because of the sugar.?
Yeah but they'll just die a horrible death aswell
hopefully
Very interesting for sure.

True. Black, unaggressive ants are GREAT for the garden as far as I know. I kill the fire ants, leave the black ants.
The ants are pests your leaves look so healthy due to their working in that tub. Too bad they don’t work and leave huh? Good job isolating the problem
