Jon, Love your no-nonsense approach to this head-to-head review. Your previous review sealed it for me and my K2 should arrive by Monday. Thank you for the contest, I would love to give it to my wife who has just recently discovered her love of cycling and she is quickly turning into an addict. I just returned to road cycling last year after a five-year hiatus due to a house fire that turned all of my bikes into ashes. Your reviews of K2 continue to support my desire to upgrade from the K1 I currently use. I understand that an additional feature of the K2 is that it has a speaker. So when I pair it to my Garmin Varia rear facing radar I should be able to get an audible tone as well as the visual that is displayed on the screen. Just discovered your channel, been bingeing. My two best cycling buddies have 1030 Pluses and are heavily encouraging me to join them. I've been tempted to buy one, but as you've pointed out before, WOW are they spendy! Plus, I originally abandoned Garmin for Wahoo because I hate being a Beta tester for their stuff. (Well, that plus my old Garmin 1000 left me stranded in the forest with no GPS signal AND completely lost the route. Several times. No thanks.) I love the idea that Hammerhead does such frequent updates, although I do worry about some of the loss of features like elevation info and such. Still... verrrry tempting.

Thanks so much for that review Jon. OUTSTANDING!!!. I am a long time Garmin user and I’ve had at least a half dozen Garmin products including bike flight decks and triathlon watches. Invariably, after a few years, they fail and the Garmin warranties are lackluster at best as Tech Support has told me that “after 4 or 5 years of use, a device has already had a good long life”. This planned obsolescence approach infuriates me. So when my Garmin 520 failed 3 days ago, I decided I was going to go for another brand this time around. The K2 has been in the front of my mind but I wasn’t that familiar with it or its capabilities. I was also considering the Wahoo. But you have made my decision quite clear. And although you are very diplomatic in saying the K2 just edged out the Wahoo, it is plain to me that the K2 is far superior. Thanks again for your excellent review. Wishing you much success with your channel.

Interesting your comment on Karoo2 Strava segments. At the moment the segment like you show appears as an overlay so in my case, it covers my HR and it looks a little untidy because I can still see part of it. I'd love the option for a Strava Segment screen to appear so while the segment is active you could have an entire page appear showing Speed, HR along with your segment. It sounds like they might have something like that planned.

Nice video. I was between the 2 devices and ended up buying the Karoo 2. I ordered on a Sunday, they shipped it to me next day and 3 days later was in my door all the way from China to NY (thumbs up to FedEx). It has been only one week and so far I couldn't be happier. The K2 is highly customizable, you can switch between profiles without pausing a ride, you can create or modify routes while riding without losing what you had ridden, the display is amazing and the customer service is excellent. I have sent 2 times emails to customer support just asking some questions about live tracking and they answered me right away. I'm sure that the wahoo is great, but I'm so happy that I got the K2!!! The only thing that I don't like and that I hope they change with a software update Is the fact that you have to "star" the segments in strava In order to work in the device and you can only pick 100 (and 100 near by, wich I'm not really sure what that means).

Jon ... thanks for the detailed video. Not sure if you'll see this comment. I've just started looking into replacing my Garmin 820 and came across your channel, for that reason. Since my current 820 reboots in certain (albeit rare) situations, I'm considering moving to Wahoo or HH. (My first Garmin, also an 820, would reboot when the air temp was below about 55 degrees, which is no good in Pennsylvania.) At this point, I'm leaning toward HH due to their frequent updates.
So despite my lack of faith in Garmin, should I consider another Garmin in this quest? Thanks ...

Great review. The software on the Karoo looks very appealing and I'm sure it will get even better. IMO the viewability on the wahoo is unmatched. Both in terms of the physical screen (high clarity, least prone to glare), and the zoom/UI choices presenting only what the rider needs to see. I feel this is much better on the road when you're physically depleted and distracted. The wahoo seems to require less cognitive overhead if that makes sense, and keeps you in the environment mentally. But it does have many limitations compared to a Garmin or Karoo.

Thanks for the video mate! It was great to see the side by side comparison. I'm still a bit confused with how the Karoo 2 syncs with the phone app. If the Karoo doesn't have it's own SIM card, does it need wifi to send the completed workout (our download routes?) or does it connect to the the phone and sync via bluetooth?
For example, lets say I finish my workout on the Karoo and I'm in a remote location (or not at home). Will I have to wait until I get home for the Karoo to connect to my home wifi before I see the workout sync with the phone app?

The battery life is really poor and I was expecting (probably wrongly) that it could manage real, on-device navigation. However, it seems that it can't - or at least mine can't. Support has been helpful but unable to solve the issue. Also, I wonder about the K2's battery power. After a 3 hour ride with the screen on at 50% dimmed I am down to ~70% battery. Can't compare it to the Wahoo bc I don't have one but the 12-14 hour claim seems to imply that the screen needs to have the auto-shutoff enabled.
