    Evening Cat and Steve
    The upflow filter will make a big difference. Last year I used filter floss in 2nd pod to clear fines . This year I bought a Love or hate Tempest fitted on skimmer line after a bead filled with K1 micro. The tempest does a great job in stripping fines . With a drum and upflow you should have amazing results.Fluke solve plus my fish really settled down in week three no flashing. Just gone in with 2 nd treatment a fish have not changed stayed very settled no flashing or jumping. Mine are also eating as much food as you put in. Keep up the good work Cp

    Hi I had a similar problem on my old pond, nothing new but angled pipe put through the back of a large garden urn that was facing the direction I wanted the water to flow. Hard part was cutting the stone urn.
    All the best with your experiments of a wrighty upflow filter.

    I think as you've already got a stainless steel return, stainless steel pipe is the best option. It needs to be pipe or narrow channel to give you the flow. If you use open channel it could attract blanket weed though. A nice length of 4 inch stainless pipe from the shower to a 4 inch stainless elbow maybe a short bit into the elbow to accelerate the flow.

    Problem with waiting 3 weeks for gill flukes, is that they would have laid more eggs in that time, and the treatment won't touch the eggs, so they will hatch after the treatment has worked...end result more flukes !!

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 3 lety

      Surely the 1st dose will still be in the water albeit reducing in its strength and the 2nd dose then hits them again. Follow the science first for me as I'm not an expert. Cheers mate

    • @CODHELPUS
      @CODHELPUS Před 3 lety +1

      @@CATANDEYEKOI I think the reason why lots of keepers say that certain treatments don't work is because they haven't judged the egg laying cycle correctly, and to be honest water temp can change the gestation period by days and even weeks. In my experience I always treat after 10 days at temps around 18 - 20 degrees.
      I read somewhere that at 20 degrees, the eggs can take as little as 7 days to hatch, and the flukes can breed after 10 days. It is still a matter of guess work though, but in 3 weeks as suggested there will certainly be lots of eggs laid in that time. Maybe the 3 weeks is more for body flukes which are much easier to eradicate in my experience.
      As far as I know, the only thing that will kill eggs as well is 'Superverm' but it is dangerous to use apparently. There is info about it in Duncan Griffiths book if you have it?

    Oddly enough I'm building an uplfow exactly as you have describes. When I looked at the size of it with the rubber connectors it was getting nearer to 2m tall. So I've gone the same route as you. My acrylic pipe is 160mm diameter. I'm thinking about cutting it down from 1m to 800 long. I'm not sure on the effect that will have but it might save me having to buy a new pump. I think I might lose too much head pressure if it goes too high. However using the EA Tempest as a guide, that runs at an optimal 5000 to 7000ltrs/hour with a diameter of 250mm. So (5000 or 7000)/250 * 160 would give me 3200 to 4480ltrs/hour and I think my pump will handle that. I doubt you watch my channel as it's not a pure pond channel. I do loads of stuff but you might want to watch the video on the upflow when I film it.

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 3 lety

      If you have head height I would leave it at 1m and run it like that, on my cutting it down if you can't balance the flow. Will take a look at your channel too. Good luck with the project. Stay safe

    • @Demantius
      @Demantius Před 3 lety

      Hi "Its What I Do"! When comparing flow inside pipes in general, you compare the flow area inside the pipes... So if you are trying to get the same flow as the EA Tempest, you really need to calculate the inside flow area instead of using the diameter for the canisters. That would give you a flow of 1991 ltrs/hour to 2788 ltrs/hour. (I assumed the thickness of the pipes would be 3 mm). [My numbers was: (5000/(3.14*((250/2)-3)^2))*(3.14*((160/2)-3)^2). ]

    • @CATANDEYEKOI
      @CATANDEYEKOI  Před 3 lety

      Hi Lakhbir, the drum has a specific purpose to mechanically filter, the tempest can be used as a stand alone filter but many use it as a polisher for fines removal. Not sure if you can classify it as a better filter when they do two different jobs. Stay safe
