WAITRESS star Alison Luff offers her golden vocals to the Sara Bareilles tuner's big show-stopper. Catch her at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre through September 15. - Zábava
Her voice is CLEARER than my future.
Lol.
No one's future is clear...so it's not much of a compliment! haha xD
@@Tarack1 and your comment was not needed
Omg that’s the funniest thing ever
Ashley Mazanhi aww look who’s pressed
I feel like she’d be perfect for Eliza in Hamilton - can you imagine this level of subtle anger and emotion in burn??
YES!
OMG YES!
Omg I’d die
omg yes
Juliette Benton yes. you have rllly good taste
Did anybody noticed how her eyes slowly fill with tears throughout the song ?
I’ve watched thousands of vocal/rendition performances in my life, this is the most emotional one. This girl is world class
I literally teared up while listening to her
I read a comment that said that her version of mine at the end is angrier
woman
She is.. The emotions in her voice and eyes literally speaks.. And tears filled my eyes
because she almost never blinks!
This song was written for an abused waitress reflecting on the life she lost. It's crazy how the lyrics can mean something completely different to every one. I connected so so deeply with the lyrics but in my own way. And I think that's just beautiful. Hats off to Sara Bareilles..beautifully written song.
This is the first time (after hearing it multiple times) that I fully understood the song. BEAUTIFUL
I was first introduced to the song from Gracie Gold's return to figure skating after being diagnosed with an eating disorder. I didnt know that the song was even connected to a musical, so I didnt know it was originally about an abused woman.
I think everyone can relate to this song in at least some respect. I know I can.
The most perfect rendition ever. Even better than original…sorry. I’m still looking…
No, it's not about a waitress. It's about a woman becoming a mother: The demands the child places on her makes her feel like her life has been reduced to waiting on the child.
This is the most technically perfect version of this song I’ve ever heard. It’s almost unsettling just how pitch perfect she is.
I just kinda wish she used a bit more vibrato on the longer notes
Couldnt agree more
There was a pretty pitchy "but" in there, but it's okay.
@@willberger3873 agree
Check out Jeremy Jordan’s version. It’s a girl song but that dude does it AMAZINGLY lol
This is one of the best versions of this song I have ever heard, and this isn’t even from a full performance. WOW.
Daniel Schorr right?! Her acting throughout the song gave me chills, especially the last note(usually sung really soft as opposed to her version)
@@heyitsblinded multiple other performers have belted the last note prior to this. It seems to have become the new standard. Personally, I hate it as it is very out of place and pulls me out of the moment. That said...up until then I thought this was the best performance of this that I've seen.
Her Sara’s original rendition and come back because yah
it’s amazing in person. the crowd applauded for 5 minutes
And she's SITTING!!!
I can't get over how she maintains both control of her voice and full expression of her rage and sorrow, one of the most deeply raw musical performances I've ever seen.
She never takes her eyes off of the same spot. Like she is watching the life she had, who she was, sadly slip away. Very touching. Perfect rendition of the perfect song.
My ass thought she was reading lyrics
@@hayaqazi1160 Because you are probably not at artist.😢
Has anyone else noticed how hard that pianist is going? Like she is 100% just as passionate here and honestly that just makes this for me
p
me 2!!
Honestly I never notice anything other than Alison destroying the daggum world with this performance. Good eye though!
HA! Yes. Love it. You go girl with your mad skills and awesome pink sheet music binder.
The pain in her face and voice makes it looks like she might cry any second.
She cries in the show and it's incredible. Most amazing performance.
I totally was just thinking the same thing!
in the show she cried so hard that she dripped snot, shes an absolutely incredible actress
I can never sing this song or even listen to it without tears welling up at the line, "She is broken and won't ask for help." Every damn time, it hurts.
check out morisette amon's rendition hers is the best, you will really feel more emotion and perfection of the song.prise you will not regret to hear her voice.
One of the absolute GREATEST versions of this song! And HUGE PROPS to the insanely talented piano player.
Absolutely!
HUGE props to the piano player - and a Casio can sound that good had me stalled for a minute.🥰
@@ChadMcLean01Hey Chad, I said the same thing! I’ve been a professional musician since I’m 13yrs old, and I was so Shocked !
Agreed...I typically don't like Casio, but that pianist makes it sound good. Quite the interesting timing and accents eh?
One of the most amazing live performances I’ve ever witnessed. Incredible how perfect she was in this rendition, the power and emotion are overwhelming
Amazing she is perfect singer
Amazing isn't enough!
the amount of control she has over her voice even when shes putting this much emotion into the song is insane. im literally sitting here with my mouth hanging open im amazed
christi s I agree! Also hello name twin ☺️
Wow, she just goose bumped the whole heart of a male senior citizen. Amazingly soulful.
You should have seen it live! It was dialed up even more and we were close enough to see the tears falling from her cheeks during her final performance. She got a standing ovation in the middle of the second act with this song! That's not typical Broadway etiquette unless the audience is blown away. She is a tremendous talent. The most impressive live performance I have ever seen in my life!
Caleb May so jealous you were there, sounds incredible!!
Could have said it better
I am a guy. I'm not in any way pregnant or a waitress. But damn, I cried. A lot. Like you all did. Sue me.
There's nothing wrong with that, yeah? Because music is a universal language after all, who knows what you're going through that made you connect it with the struggles in the Waitress, right? I hope you're doing okay tho.
Nishinoya Yucorpz I completely agree. These kinds of music are the ones that just pierce through the heart regardless of what's going with your life. I hope you're doing okay, too. 🙂
mee tooo brooo
Hey, feeling emotionally is a privilege....admitting that you do feel what you feel is honest and awesome. Hi-5!
This rendition is truly so beautiful tho.
Justin Dioso ❤️❤️❤️❤️
This is the most heartfelt version of the song by mile
Heard it sung by almost everyone. This is the first time I cried.
Yes. Same.
I've seen this song performed by a hundred different people, and I agree completely!
the fact that she did THAT while SITTING
And those long notes without vibrato... absolutely stunning to sing like that whilst conveying so much passion. An absolute master of her craft!
Just emotion she shows , she’s living the song....
@@tyborg1 Was thinking the same. Omg. Great breath support right there.
Lol your profile pic matches my reaction
All the chorus directors are jiggling in rage
This is the angriest version I have seen of this song. I love it. A woman who’s reflecting on her past and is mad at fate but forgiving herself for her mistakes. Hopeful for the future and above all determined that life will be different, she will be different from now on. At least that’s what I get from the song, but I’m not a woman so I may be tottally off base.
david sandlin was a great time for for
Thunk a capella did a great "angry" version too, check them out ;)
I think you're completely right. This version was so moving and the anger really made it that much more believable.
Jeremy did too
Shoshana bean
Just saw this video. As a recording producer and engineer, I sometimes tell singers that I will turn off the lights in the studio, so they can focus on the song. Alison, one of the most emotional, true and focused track I have ever heard. Yes, you have great pitch, yes you have a good range, but your injection of your feelings is what makes good performers.....great.
Watched her perform in a musical at a rival high school many years ago. I knew then she would be a star. Incredible talent.
It looks as though she’s seeing scenes of her life play out in front of her. The focus. Wow.
x8xkxlyoxxü,umfggyxllh,kxxcuxvuxclmúy,
u,9cyxhh8kúvyxx9xyxjx
Oh she’s definitely there, is more than focus; that’s her spirit crying 🕊
she is INSANE. like how much control she has over her voice. that’s INSANE. allison is ETHEREAL.
I’m here again. And I’m still in awe of her vocal range, control and emotions. I can feel the rage, sadness and the grip in my heart while she’s singing. Such an amazing performance 👏
It’s like she is singing as if that song is her life story… totally remarkable and stunning
She didn't sing the song, she was the song! God I'm crying
E.X.A.C.T.L.Y. :) .
Agree. The best rendition ever ❤
@@anneong8064 I cry each time I listen to this, the words are like ice picks.
@@corryjookit7818 - I’ve never related so completely to a song…the first time my mom heard it she cried & later told me that she thinks of me every time she hears it. But what’s even more amazing is how many people also find themselves in these lyrics. This song has woven an invisible thread between millions of us who suffer our weaknesses in silence, feeling so totally alone, only to find out that we aren’t alone. In fact there’s more of us, those who wholly relate…than there are those who don’t hear themselves in this song at all. Learning that has given my soul a massive rest from trying to hide the cracks & smile through the pain.
I am here crying too.
I love how the piano player is just as passionate as Alison.
I imagine her with a voice in her head, saying "Oh, yeah, baby, you're giving it all... Oh, keep playing, keep playing, you're the star" while moving that giant reflectant earrings on the background at the rythm of the tune.
Yeah! I loved her too!
Right?!
She’s actually a friend of mine, her name is Mary Gatchell. You’ll never meet a more passionate music director or pianist
@@jennahoran6147 that's awesome! I know this song is real easy to play with just basic chords but I can she's really feeling it and being very musical. I'm an up and coming MD so it's nice to see that.
So far this rendition "takes the cake!!" It is indeed, my favorite yet!!
you mean "takes the pie"
Alison Luff was amazing as always but can we take a second to appreciate the pianist?? Her name is Mary Gatchell and she was such an amazing accompanist to Alison.
I got to see this live...let me tell you, i was bawling in my seat. Bawling. A stranger next to me put her hand on my leg to comfort me.
I saw it live too, and I was crying, as were most of the people around me. It was incredible.
SAMEEEE!! Except it was my hubby comforting me. She’s spectacular!!!! Goosebumps and tears galore!
I wish I could have seen it live but I think this song resonates for many women who got caught up in doing everything everyone wanted of them and realize years later she has lost who she really was. The song makes me cry every time I hear it Bc it's so me and I have so many regrets and have been hurt so much.
@@kittycat8222 Hug. Life will be better and you will be with people who respect and love all of you.
that's called sexual harassment honey :D
When she sang "baked in a beautiful pie" ...I felt that.
That is the best line of the song for me.
The mixture of anger and sadness she fit into that one phrase blows me away every time.
That line and the way she says "just enough" get me every time
especially at the end!
i too love pie
Sara wrote an amazing song - and Allison’s performance is simply insane. Her diction, awareness, facial emotions, not to mention the vocal performance - is so amazing - it’s hard to put into words. If I compare this to Shoshana Bean, or Katherine McPhee - it’s not even in the same ballpark - and both are great.
I've been listening to several versions of this song by various artists. It's no contest, she is by far best. As the other viewer commented, I'd have to second. He control us unrivaled!!! Wow! Listen again, with headphones . Pay attention to the nuisances in her voice, and that GROWL. Oh wow!
I became obsessed with this song and have listened to so many versions, this is sooo my favorite
Ana Victoria Morales girl, SAME
same here...i kept coming&listen to her..crying oso the same...i don't knw but somehow it connected to mine somewhre...
They just posted Jordin Sparks’ version yesterday!
So do I.
Me too!
It is absolutely CRIMINAL that her run is less than two months. She's even better live. The best Jenna by a LANDSLIDE.
Lizzy agreed. Saw her last week. By far the best Jenna I’ve seen live
Lizzy I firmly believe that no one will ever top Jessie, but, damn, Alison sure does come close.
mer gaon in my opinion, yes.
J E J No offense to Jessie, I adore her and her Jenna, but in my opinion many people have topped her Jenna. Nicolette, Alison, Betsy and tbh Sara all come to mind.
second best right after Sara. No one played it better than Sara Bareilles
this is the most perfect pitch i've heard in a performance ever
Holy crap! This is how a song is suppose to be sung!! She was totally "lost" in this song and living in it as she sang the words.. I loved it..
She has the true voice of a disney princess.
Oh my goodness yes!!! 💕
Awesome... Perfect.. Super.. Love this😘😘😘
I wish she voiced Elsa
YES
I have never heard anger expressed so beautifully through singing like when she sang “when she’s bruised, and gets used” I’m speechless
I am a 35 years old man.. and I dont know why my heart hurts when I red the lyrics.. I really miss my oldself... have nothing but confidence.. now I have everything I need to live a proper life, but I lost confidence in everything I do..
Both the pianist and the singer were really telling this story with complete honesty and passion. The singer's technique, control, and emotions brought out the character. While the pianist was painting the scene with just as much passion and conviction.
It was truly moving and perfect.
Put this woman in a major starring role and get her a record deal. This level of talent should NOT be wasted!
Not everyone wants that life, it seems she’s okay with being only being on Broadway
@@itscalebbarrera Well right now she’s really into working in television. She’s on this show called “Heels” and she even sang some songs for the soundtrack.
“She used to be... mine...”

WHAT IS THIS AWFUL MUSIC
this is the very first time I hear this song , and her performance just made me cry. She makes you feel all the emotions at the same time. Just wow.
She walked the line between in control and extremely emotional perfectly
This doesn’t feel like a performance like the others do. This feels so real.
exactly!! i totally agree. all the others were performances. i mean they were OK but for me, this is the real deal.... this is the goal.
I was blessed enough to have gotten the chance to see her as Jenna and when I tell you after this song the entire theater just applauded for 10 minutes without stopping and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was truly a life changing experience
Wow, so jealous you got to hear her sing this live. Absolutely beautiful!
i was balling the whole song. she was amazing
Same!! I was there. Amazing. The audience could not stop. We all were spellbound.
I was there too.. I couldn’t even see I had so many tears. It was like time stood still. Something I’ll never forget
Gia Gambardella i saw it last night and the cast gives time for everyone to clap for a long time because she is stunning!
Of all versions, this one is no doubt on top of my list.
Same🤩
I tried to sing this beautiful song and my friend played the piano, it’s not perfect but it would mean the world to me if you saw our version! 🤗❤️
As beautiful as her voice is, you could watch this with the audio off and still be incredibly moved. The intensity of her facial expressions are awe inspiring. Put the two together and … wow.
I just need to say this after watching 7 different renditions - that this is my favorite. Agree that it’s the “angriest”. But, I love it because it’s the most conversational, and empowered in an authentic way. The others have a tinge of theatrical glamour, inspirational push or soft sorrow, which are also all beautiful. This is raw regret.
check out morisette amon's rendition hers is the best, you will really feel more emotion and perfection of the song.prise you will not regret to hear her voice.
I recommend to you THUNK then. Their version is absolute masterpiece
Yes! The raw.....its really incredible.
@@ninoanthonygalanida8374 nope. She sang to impress. Did not feel the song
i like shoshana beans version
Let's sign a petition to have her play Eliza in Hamilton
I know I’m late but signed!!!!!!!!!!
signed!!
yes yes yes yes yes
She felt every single word! It's fantastic what the music can make us feel...
I stand by what I said the first time I saw this video. This is unequivocally and simply the best live performance on CZcams. Alison's rendition is as moving as it is flawless. I have run this video through the finest audio systems available and it takes on another diminution entirely. It stops anyone in the vicinity and they become transfixed, I have never seen anything like it.
If they had a top live performance for the first quarter of the century, anyone they put forward would have the fight of a hundred lifetimes to come anywhere near this. The emotional connection between Sarah & the incredible pianist being the absolute icing on the cake.
This rendition evokes Elphaba for me. There’s that quiet power and a little bit of darkness
jjburnes did you see her Elphaba? Incredible
Brock Wilson I didn’t! I wish I could’ve! She’s amazing!
jjburnes wow completely agree
i just posted she sounds like idina menzel
Yessss! I got to see her as Elphaba in Boston a few years ago and she was amazing! She is hands down one of the best actresses that ever played that character!
The way she got so angry when she said being used by a guy who couldn't love.... I FELT THAT.... God.... I can't stop crying
💔 it hit on a different level.. know exactly what you mean..
Can't help my tears from rolling down my cheeks, reminds me of my x gf whom I loved so dearly all my life yet a petty quarrel that we had ended to 'cool off' only to informed one day she had a car accident that killed along with her new bf who was an abusive and drug addict.😢 if I could only turn back time😔 I LOVE YOU and will always do, I miss you so much Babe, until we meet again.🙏🙏
oh my goodness! I loved this. She made me cry and I felt every word of the song. I wish I could have seen the stage production live. Thank you for this.
I have just watched this stunning rendition multiple times in a row. Alison you are mesmerising as you deliver one of the most powerful performances of a beautiful song. Your emotion is so captivating and real. Bless you. You are a stunning singer.
I'm sorry, but who gave her permission to sing that so perfectly??? What the hell? I'm crying my eyes out.
ITS 100% perfect. IM SO CONFUSED. The amount of talent this women has is unmatchable!
Lovely
I know. I cry every freaking time
She has no right being this incredible!! Hahaha😂😂 I’m offended by her voice.
God I wish I could sing
She is the song herself. I can't stop crying too.
I haven’t see her Jenna live, but I feel like she’s much more of a present/forgiving Jenna. This version has not many added riffs or special things, but it is very clean & super powerful. Her acting is so subtle yet super effective & ah I wish I could see Alison live😭
Alison Luff did a fantastic job as Jenna.
She brought back the emotion that I have not seen since Jessie left. I loved how Alison kept her vocals clean and powerful. I personally thought it got the message across more effectively than unnecessary riffs or “special” techniques would.
J E J my thoughts exactly! super clean & super effective! simplicity sometimes is key & holy wow she nailed it
I prefer Jenna’s who don’t add a lot of special things. When they do it clean, I feel like the emotions are conveyed better & it is way more raw.
she was an amazing jenna live. i saw shoshana who killed it but i felt the emotion more seeing alison
Most defintely one of my favorite renditions of this song. The progression of Alison's emotions throughout the song really tell the story of Jenna's pain. A true artist indeed!
Tears are flowing right now. What a beautiful performance.
I think she has the most solid technique out of all the Jennas Ive heard and I love it.
OMGmynameisLILI - Lili Martínez Jordan Sparks is pretty incredible too
Jesse Muller?
Check out Lucie Jones
I actually think that honour goes to Betsy Wolfe or Nicolette Robinson.
I agree she and Jesse Mueller...both good in their unique way
Jessie Mueller will always be Jenna to me, but THIS is exactly how I imagine the song should be sung 💕💕
exactly! Very well said. Probably the best version I've ever heard.
yeah jessie hits different
Beautiful rendition! Every word came from her heart and soul. Intriguing, transformative
Heard this song so many times and I can't stop listening to it. Alison, thank you for beautiful voice and cover.
Hands down the best version. Technically, emotionally. the control is outstanding.
check out morisette amon's rendition hers is the best, you will really feel more emotion and perfection of the song.prise you will not regret to hear her voice.
you should really search 'thunk acapella - she used to be mine'
Try to react morissette amon she used to be mine cover
Come on now. Sara Bareilles’s version absolutely rocks. Sara’s is not actually a version as it’s her song.
I think Sara Bareilles truly grasps the essence of being human. We need to embrace life and celebrate our humanness.
My thoughts exactly
She creates masterpieces 😭😢❤❤❤❤❤
i’ve seen millions of covers of this song but this is absolutely the best. i love how she sings with such love, pain and rage at the same time. i always come back
This is the most heartfelt I have seen so far in my entire life, what a talent!
Cleanest vocals out of all the Jenna's. Absolutely stunning.
A Neumann mic doesn’t hurt either.
This is otherworldly perfect. She is so technically precise, but still there's just SO MUCH emotion, I can't even
Oh my the goosebumps. This is so controlled, and so fierce at the same time. A fabulous performance, it really brings tears to the eyes. Just superb.
I watched this probably a dozen times and I still get goosebumps. What a voice!
I love how she looks in the distance as if she is looking at her old self. And the sadness in her eyes... It's so beautiful, it's painful.
I'm not crying it's just raining on my face.
Flight of the Concords?
Same 100%
I got that reference and loved it
It's raining on my face too
I'm baking a lasagna...for one...
That is one of the most beautiful performances I have ever heard/seen in my life. Absolutely breathtaking.
Over the years, I keep finding my way back to this performance. Thank you.
Firstly, that was probably my favourite rendition of this song ever! And secondly, I’ve heard this song a million and one times but I felt like I was listening to it brand new! So stunningly sung!
I've heard this song a million times as well and her rendition made me cry...

That moment when she grips her dress..🙌🏼 This entire performance is flawless.
That moment.
The best rendition of the song ! Hearfelt & i cried the first time i heard this . Brilliant talent !
I have lost count, how many times I've listened. What an amazing talent she is .I've compared every rendition and she is my favourite by far!❤
Wow. Vocally most perfect I’ve seen yet. And definitely the most damaged and angry Jenna I’ve seen. This girl looks HURT
Her vocals are so CLEAR, and she sings this with such an authentic emotional quality that is a bit more nuanced/subtle than other Jennas (though I've loved them, too). so good.
I was all in from the first note, her voice the piano playing and her eyes filling up with tears just one incredible video clip. Goosebump city.
Beautiful voice matched with tremendous emotion. Must be something to watch her act live.
This is the most soul wrenching performance I’ve ever heard.
the pianist in the back jamming and vibing to alison’s performance is deadass me accept its past midnight for me and i’m bawling like a baby
I watch this over and over. It’s one of the most beautiful songs on CZcams and she is soooo talented.
The best rendition of this song that I've ever seen or heard. Lovely voice, great accompaniment, perfect balance between the two. Pure emotion - fabulous!
One of the most brilliant live performances ive ever seen by a vocalist. The pianist is pure class as well with pacing that is perfect. These are masters at work.
You should watch Joshua colleys permformance of this song
I relate to this song so much, my life story is unfortunately a lot like Jenna’s (minus the affair lol). I got to escape with my little one and create a great life for my kiddo, just like Jenna did. But god, when I hear this song, it brings me back to the days crying on the bathroom floor crying and holding my stomach promising my child we would get out. I’ve always connected with each individual during every performance of Waitress, given my similarities, but this woman LITERALLY connected to me so deeply I was weeping! THIS is why I love theatre. Such a brilliant, perfect performance and undoubtedly my favorite Jenna thus far.
I'm so sorry. I'm glad your in a better place now. It's really such an amazing show
Glad you're doing better :)
Im happy to know you're in a better place now. God bless you and your child.

@@romabelita4551 im late to reply to this, so you might already know the story-but technically it's about this Waitress who is in an abusive relationship with her husband. She unexpectedly gets pregnant, and she starts an affair with a doctor :pp
I will never get tired of watching this all over and over again. What a wonderful voice 💚🤗
Best rendition of this beautiful song...
the raspyness at “learns how to toughen up” gave me chills ugh
Sheesh guys, give those last few notes a moment to breathe before jumping to credits...
Yeah, a travesty of video production, that is.
I hate that cheesy outro and intro music. Just a logo would've been fine.
I love her version of this song... her expression while singing... as if she's reflecting on her life..and eventually to change. Awesome voice.
She’s absolutely fantastic! Such an emotional performance
Okay... I've heard A LOT of versions of this song... and this is absoloutely my favourite version! I mean WOW!! I rarely get choked up but this actually hit me, she is stunning. 😭😭😭
Abbie Carleton absolutely agree!!!
SAME SAME SAME SAME
Chills...the way she belts it out with a little bit of roughness and anger makes it so powerful.
Absolutely breathtaking. Emotional, perfect pitch and powerful. Impeccable performance.
Oh my gosh! What did I just hear? Beautiful and perfectly performed! Absolutely one of the most incredible voices I’ve ever heard!❤️
