We live in Western Pa. and Have around 100 Acres of Land, About 1/2 is ours the rest is my moms, We have 4 kids and two grandchildren, 3 Golden Retrievers and one Cat. We enjoy working on our property and making improvements. We sell firewood and soon will be selling hardwood lumber.
These massive concrete blocks are awesome for country properties! We just completed a huge wall with the decorative version of these large concrete blocks. They have 'castle' tops and look like gigantic Legos. They have cap blocks for the tops that are half the thickness and have no pins on the top. The blocks you used are fantastic for what you are using them for, but if you need a 'fancy' wall, most concrete plants sell decorative blocks as well. I agree about the blocks being far from perfect, but if a bit of care is taken in the setting, they make a very strong retaining wall that looks real nice! Ours weighed 2,400 lbs. each and were 2' x 2' x 4' and the wall is about 70' long. It will have a poured concrete propane tank at at one end when complete. Plenty of video if anyone is interested.
I’ve been a overhead crane operator for 35 years and heavy equipment also. Any time you add cables to the mix you are going to get some swing and hydraulic booms make it rough to catch it. He’s doing a good job it’s just the nature of the game.
I built a small retaining wall and a manure pit with those blocks. Got 30 of them delivered from one hour away for $83 a piece. Best decision ever, simple and lasts forever. Owning the machinery at my disposal to move them was priceless. I was told buy the guy that the 2x2x6 block that I bought like yours are 4K.
I’m sitting here watching Ty watching them set concrete blocks and it hits me… this kid is blessed to have a family that exposes him to a true working man world… tractors, excavators, dogs, building stuff, cutting trees and access to a hundred flippin’ acres!
LOL on the inside vs outside dogs. I'm 67 and my dogs and our kids dogs were pretty much outside. These days everyone has them inside, from the little ankle biter Chihuahuas to Great Danes. Cool firewood storage pad. Thanks for sharing.
Nice thing about these blocks is, if they outlive their usefulness you can just pick them up and use them for some other application.
Put 2 or 3 more tiers and some trusses on 4 foot centers, Purlins, and metal roofing, then you could keep your firewood dry.
I was thinking just anchor some posts in the corners, then trusses and metal roof. Keep some cross breeze
Nice big blocks! I’m ready to see some splitting, I used to split with steel wedges, sledge hammer and an axe. That means you eat a big lunch! Looks great, team!
Those concrete blocks are what we used at the redi-mix plant i worked at. They’re indestructible & ours were about 12 ft high. They formed the aggregate bins, approximately 40’x40’x12’ high. Its amazing how much material they hold. A great way to make a outdoor container. Love the videos and God bless y’all
Your bin is small compared to ours. Our 1” cs is 108’ wide and 75’ deep on one end and 55’ deep on the other. Sand is 65’ deep and 55’ wide. I loaded 30 of the 4’ blocks to a customer just today. They got around 40 of the 6’ blocks already. Make them, break them down, and load them all the time.
Those old U model Mack trucks are cool. My brother in law had one he hauled grain with. that thing would pull like crazy nice job on the firewood bin. Should work great
Mike it's a great feeling when a plan comes together. PATIENCE is a virtue
Good morning everyone. 51º in Kansas City. Stay safe, be humble & kind and have a day.
Good morning Phil :-)
@@badcat4707, Phil,
Brothers!
Don’t be upset! Confused is life as normal nowadays. Lol
Good morning from Upstate South Carolina. Mike, according to my calculations, those 2x2x6 blocks do indeed weigh about 3550 pounds. Nice pool foundation, I mean firewood bin. Have a productive day.
How are you doing your math when a yard (27 Cubic foot) weighs 2,500 lbs and 6’x2’x2’= 24 cf @ 92.59 lbs per cubic foot that’s 2,222.22 plus rebar of say 250 lbs that’s 2,472.22 lbs which is almost a ton n quarter. How do you get 3550 = 131.48 lbs per cf. cause I have been pouring concrete since I was 16 and did the calculations better than any of the adults at that time. So please do educate me ( not trying to be sarcastic )
Mike I was yelling at the screen when you were taking the hammer to that block. JUST FLIP IT AROUND....LOL. Oh well..
Love how your wife always approves of your accomplishments!!!! My husband is jealous!!!! Lol
Good morning Mike, Melissa & all the OWTM fans/followers from a drizzly blustery morning here in the low country of Virginia Beach… glad to see Yinz finally got you blocks to start your new split wood pile…thanks for bringing us along
Hello Hunter
Have a Day
We set all of ours on a gravel footer. You have plenty of gravel packed down now to hold those blocks and they aren't moving. You have lost a lot of square feet of wood storage 3' around the sides. The nice thing is if you change your mind move them out with your excavator and try it on gravel. Order 6 more blocks lots of additional room.
We made close to 200 of those blocks to line a creek bed on my fathers property in Indiana. We had three forms to pour into and concrete truck drivers would bring their excess and dump into them. It took about two years to get that many. Good looking setup Mike!
Firewood pit looks great!!! Time to set up the conveyor and spitter and then scratch that project off the list!! Can't wait to see it full of split wood. Big HELLO to the family and be safe. See you on the next video.
Looks like playing with blocks is as much fun as an adult as it was a kid I like the firewood pit god bless have a great day
Put a 4th wall, add a pool liner, and fill with water… Melissa can have her pool this year 😀.
Looks great, now the fun begins filling it with firewood.
43 👍. Unbelievable!
CANNONBALLLLLLLL!
Now I can't wait to see the whole production of the fire wood being fed into the bin.
Looks great, nice way to organize your split wood and contain the mess! Congratulations!👍🏻
Looks very nice. I think the whole thing will work better with the blocks on the pad. Mike you know you always think everything through and it always work great. Enjoy!
Did anyone else notice that they set the block (where he had to knock off the top VEEs) in backwards. It was design to set into the corner and lock both ways to the second row.
The blocks have a pattern on one side. They placed the block with the pattern on the outside.
The block was made for the other corner.
Should’ve just turned the block around
Can't believe Mike didn't figure that out duh!!!
@@anthonystubblefield4987 can't.
One end has the V out, the other end has the V in.
Kinda hard to lock together.
Duh!
Yes Richard it would be stronger to spin it. but they are tongue and groved on ends. You would have two groved touching and the tongue sticking😜 out the corner. So it looks nicer Mike's way 🤐 and it's only two high
I should have known better. You answered my question at the end of the video.. Great job. It is good to see Ty supervising.
pretty, each will vary but around 3200 ish plus steel. real nice setup your got going.
Montgomery Block Works...
Right up the road from my house
looks nice
Mike, you might think about putting sealer on while the area is all nice and clean. Great looking area. Hope to have one at some point.
Good suggestion.
Honestly now that you've done all that work, letting all that wood sit there wet/frozen with moisture seems counter productive. I know, easy to sit here typing away comments on my computer, but still, think of how wet the wood buried in piles and stacks will get. New subscriber, just love the channel.
I like your new video today this look really nice you did a good jop on this be nice for your fridwood love your video
I'm currently in the process of building bins myself (I own a roll off dumpster business) and my Case SV-250 skidsteer will pick them up using the tip of one of my forks. My company estimates theirs at 3800 lbs each, so your excavator should handle them no problem.
Mike - Lookin goo-ood sir!!. Nice looking bin. Blessings to you and the family. Hi to Melissa, Hunter, Levi, & Eva.
Looks great! I like how you kept things a foot inside. Should be ready for loads of split wood now!
Pretty cool! Oh, please tell the real boss, Hunter, hi for me! 😉
Hi Mike&Melissa! Firewood Bin turned out great... like you said time to fill it up! 🪵👍🇺🇸
Hey Mike,
Mike wife said thank god I have something to watch since I also just retired. Great thing is I don’t have to leave my chair while you work. Always look forward to next video.
Bin looks great. 👍You could put a hoop roof over it also if you wanted to keep it dryer.
Mike, yes I agree it looks good. One cubic foot of concrete weighs about 150 pounds x 24 cf for the 6 footer equals 3,600 lbs. sorry to hear about the Bronco I was getting excited to see it. Hopefully soon. Have a great week😁👍
Gee Melissa,,,,,you coulda finished the "donut"!!!!!! My head whipped back when you came whizzin in on ya bike!!!! LOL
Making great progress. I look forward to her seeing how you are going to operate in there.
I was wondering how you would deal with sawdust but I’ve watched you long enough to know that you probably have a plan for everything
That bin is awesome. Its gonna make for some good video content getting it filled up. Stay well, stay safe and yall HAVE A DAY
Looking good sorry for your disappointment for the Bronco Mike but the silver lining is the wood bin. Ty seemed to approve of the entire thing. Thanks for sharing your video with us. Hello Hunter. Ed
Mike I like the way you plan out everything you do for what your needs are and your experience in the construction trades is invaluable. I find my position in viewing your video back up into the thousands again and the little bell icon doesn't help. Have a blessed day
That bin turned out nice .... time consuming to set them but well worth it ....you will get alot of use out f it ....( I'm the driver that set them )
The pad is complete and looks great! Time to fill'er up! This project took a while but to stand back and look at it, it was worth the wait. I was very happy Levi and Ty made it there to see the blocks being set, don't ya know that boy's mind was racing! Well, it finally happened, I've been picking up my 2 youngest grandchildren, Gracie 11 and Mason 9 from school on Tuesdays and Thursdays when mom, a child therapist works in office. Yesterday morning, Mason tested positive for covid. Mom's had 2 vaccination shots, but no one else has. They were both in my house this past Thursday. I've been told by 2 doctors that I will not survive covid as I'm a bad diabetic and have a non cancerous mass in my left lung. I can only walk a short distance and my heart is pounding hard. I take 6 shots of 3 insulins a day. So I guess I don't get to be w grandkids for a while. 10 days doc says for Mason, but dad and sis, my ex lives next door and fixes their supper daily, so she may get it and my 2 sons are off this week renovating my ex's house next door so if Jason gets it, Josh will too. If someone in the home has it, the kids may pass it even after they're over it. My days here are few as it is, I just really don't want to go w cancer or covid. On the bright side, Levi's gonna be there daily and you have so many things going on, I can start my days as always w the Morgans! I saw lots of firewood in the forest and you've got some logs stacked up, the pad should fill pretty quick! I'm anxious to see the bundled wood stacked up for sale, and maybe Hunter can help some w that! So many good things happening on the Morgan's estate! It is just awesome that you share w us, thank you from the bottom of my heart!👍🚜❤‼
Great safety, no hard hat, no gloves no safety boots, health & safety sure is good.
Mike, I was worried about your fingers for a while there but it came out great! Can't wait to see it full of wood!
2x2x6 is a standard 1 cubic yard block, 4050lb. I drive a mixer, build the molds for the blocks, the V lock is a stander industry block held in place by the V and dead weight. Always be careful around these blocks, the rebar hook is often the only rebar in the whole block. Not all hooks are installed the same either.
Also, most companies make this with their left over mix, consistency isn’t always there. Some guys will even build a block with multiple loads, this is where you get into the world of danger.
That is AWESOME !!!!!
Blessed my Brother :)
Be safe out there and may God continue to bless the Morgan family !!!!
I predict this time next year there will a canopy over this not that you need anymore ideas Mike😄👍
Looking good! Of course now the fun begins….. You gotta fill it up!
GREAT 👍 LOOKING BIN MIKE 👌! ! AS USUAL YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE BINGO! PERFECTION SHOULD BE YOU'RE MIDDLE NAME! HAVE A DAY!
Strongest Bronco ever built !
Cheers from Aus
Wow I think that it looks great.Good choice to do the blocks on the concrete. You will be up and running soon with the fire wood business. Can't wait to see that Bronco in the driveway.Good luck stay save and be well. Bob Bitchin!!
Firewood bin looks nice. I think it'll work out great for you. Have a nice week.
Mike I'm so jealous, not about the firewood bin but your ability to be outdoors. We've been having 50 mph sustained winds with 70+ mph gusts that has the sky filled with this desert sand, so not been able to do anything outdoors 😔
Good morning Mike and Melissa and the rest of the crew! That firewood bin sure looks good and will be useable for lots of things. Too bad about the confusion over the Bronco, it still could happen ! Thanks for sharing with us. Stay safe and keep up the good work and videos. Fred.🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻👊🏻👊🏻
So excited about the “Block” delivered and setup ✋🙏🥰
I did the same concrete block bins at our ranch one for firewood one for topsoil that I screen and one for gravel… best investment you will love it!
When you get excited over concrete blocks as much as a cool new vehicle you know your easy to please.
love it, brilliant idea to set on the pad rather than have footings. Good work.
Beautiful Autumn weather here in Rhode Island🍂🍃🍁🌲🌳looks awesome in PA 👍 🎥🇺🇸
so we use these for manure pads, but set the block first, then pour inside, and put some backfill outside so the loader doesnt shove the blocks around.
Hay Mike & Malissa your getting there for the firewood.
38 down 7 to go psa test Wednesday, still praying for Hunter and the family, nice Legos Mike, have a day
Concrete bin like that is ideal. However something I learned from heaping firewood is that on hot ideal drying days the convection in the pile is downward because the evaporation causes the air in the pile to cool and get heavier so it wants to move down. Gutters in the pad would allow for air to leave the bottom of the pile. I think what I would do is put blocking under your blocks to let air leave from the bottom of the pile. I made frames to create holes to the center of my heaps and was amazed at the COLD air movement out of the holes on a hot day. Literally a cold draft exiting
I made the same comment when they were talking about doing these blocks. Set them on bricks for air flow.
@@augustreil I know a guy that piled green wood inside a building on concrete and water was running out from under the pile because inadequate air flow and stacked too tight
Line the bottom of the bin with pallets so the air can flow under the pile of wood
Interesting wood bin. Thanks.
Perfect place to park a 2021 Ford Bronco !!!!
That's going to be a great firewood bin. For future reference, normal concrete has a unit weight of 145 pounds per cubic foot (pcf).
Snazzy bin. I'm sure it'll work great. And it is yours to do with. You've done well so far. Carry on.
One more project that can be checked off of the list! You will have to give Ty a piece of chalk and let him go to town drawing in there! Have a Day, from MA!
Hey Mike and Melissa looks great I appreciate you sharing this information and I think this will work great 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
Looks great, Mike! Well done! I enjoyed the discussion about dogs being inside versus outside. My grandmother who was a very old school Farmer, never allowed any animals inside the farmhouse! She ran that place with an iron fist. The farm had tons of animals, but they were all outside, and by golly, that's where they stayed! 💪
Sorry that's not a description of an old school grandmother! Sounds like a farmwife that was from a town or live near a town with access to gas and alternating current electric power.
@@earlhollar1906 Well, I actually think I knew her a little better than you.
If you would have reversed the block that you knocked the ridges off, end for end, it may have tied the back corner together with the second course. That may have been what you we’re alluding to when you said “they don’t go together like LEGOs”.
I was thinking the same thing.
Agreed
said same thing turn the block around
He would have had to turn all the blocks around in that row, something both of them should have seen when they laid the row.
Well , we sure hope you enjoy Constructing the Firewood Bin, Mike. But Since you have so many Trees on the property, there's no telling what effort's will be needed to fill it up Completely. Happy Sawing & Splitting.
Firewood bin turned out great. Time to get in the woods now. Just got back from a successful antelope hunt in Wyoming, we had a blast. Just dropped the "goat" off at the taxidermist and heading to the farm to catch up on sawmill work. Can't wait for your elk hunt. Good luck and another great video.
Another task completed! Looks nice. Hope the Bronco arrives soon!
Looks great. Enjoy filling it up!!!! Tell Hunter hello
Nice looking wood bin. No maintenance. I am planning on building some compost bins in the same manner but without a slab.
Looks great Morgans … that’ll do the trick for sure! - James
It would appear quite a bit of the concrete pad is left around the perimeter of the block. Too bad they couldn't be put on the edge, that would have provided a larger wood storage area.
Being to close to the edge would probably crack the floor.
Someone has a digger, can they not reposition the blocks.
I can see a future project a roof over the firewood bin. Red pine poles and beams and a metal roof
When you go big … you go big. 😁👍🏻
…. And he said he wasn’t building a prepper bunker 🙄
I think that firewood bin will last a lifetime or two. Looks great
Looks great for a firewood bin like you said don't have to be perfect as long as it suits you
Great job looking great keep up the good work love your videos
Glad to see you kept hands and fingers out of the way. You just don’t stop one of those blocks when it gets to swinging. Turned out very nice I thought!
I’m very giddy the blocks finally in place What a marvellous space to do purpose firewood splitting Remember last year you had the big pile in the middle of the site Oh it’s really shaping up well As for the Bronco Don’t hold your breath 🤷♂️🤷♂️ Good job you didn’t shave on the strength of emails & msgs 👍👏👏👏👏👏
Those 6X2X2 block consist of 3/4 of a yard of concrete. When wet they weigh 3700 lbs. When dried and curd they weigh 3500 lbs. Each block has 24 gallons of water in it.
Mike: I'll bet the the Hauses crew could face those blocks inside and out and put a nice cap on the top in a day. If they did so, you know they would seal the hole thing too. Doing this would not only make it look really good, but would seal all the joints so that saw dust an debris wouldn't.t fill in the seems, particularly at the bottom, thus eliminating rot, decay and mold.
The problem is when you push against them with a loader bucket they can move or rock just a little bit. Any sort of mortar or concrete skim coat would probably just crack and fall off.
Mike looks like the Firewood bin is gonna work well !
Yeah those old cable boom trucks are a little bit to be desired, they are not very good and smooth when it comes to the more tedious work!! I know exactly what you mean In the past I have had a lot of experience with that getting septic tanks delivered!! 👍👊
Saw dust and bark will slow the flow of water coming out too the firewood on the bottom will be soaked. Now you got to build a high roof so you can have clean and dry firewood.
"... like the Legos we used when we were kids..." When I was a kid, youngster, there were not any Legos. You had Lincoln Logs or an erector set, but Legos had not been invented yet.
You must be old, LEGO was invented in 1949
I spent hours building things with both of those! There was another one with plastic girders and thin plastic sheets that snapped onto the sides of the girders for walls. It had a water pump, tubing, a scoop that would fill with water and then dump. Also a see through check valve that you could see the little ball go up and down with the flow of water. I think it was called Hydo something.
I had that girder and panel building set too. Made lots of stuff as a kid. Maybe it’s me but I think it was way more fun than video games
I’d like to have a bin like this to store mulch, gravel, sand, etc
That's going to work out great! I know you were being careful but a few time I said out loud "watch out for your hands Mike".
Always love your videos sorry to hear you bought those dead men or coffins we called them I ran a mixture for 34 years we couldn't give those blocks away we had hundreds of them Nice job though they look good
Hey Mike I work for a precast company we had wire mesh in them and some rebar and ours were all same that's where we p poured the extra at the end of the day we called them waste blocks
Knocking those off looks more like a job the boss should give to his new employee. Looking great and the plan makes great sense. Enjoying seeing your new project coming together.
