    Yes you wasted your money, you should have saved it and demanded Subaru make a better looking car. VB looks like a piece of shit crossover. They could have put a 2.4 boxer into the VA chassis without making it look like an ugly piece of crap SUV in the form of a sedan.

    I had a 2014 WRX base for a while, I loved it but traded it in when my wife needed an automatic daily.. I told myself one day I’d get one with newer tech… I feel like I exceeded all my hopes and dreams with my 2023 WRX premium, well equipped, the joy of driving it.. and I love the the touchscreen, I love the aviation style vents.. and getting the popcorn pop straight of the lot.. even the plastic, misunderstood until you realize it’s to reduce paint chipping, it’s a dream come true

      @@Gonin60 the 14 was great, I got it in 18 as a one-owner with 20k miles, clean as a showroom car.. so I felt it was a great rep in its prime, alot of fun to drive, lived up to my imagination.. but for example, if I was in 4th at 2k rpm and wanted to go without downshifting, the pick up was ok, the same situation in the 23 it just accelerates instantly, and we’re already in 5th lol… the engine, imo does feel far more capable and the suspension is superior. The seats are def more comfortable, and obviously it’s just a way more fun driving experience from a technological standpoint. Granted I’m only 100 miles on the odometer so we’ll see but for now it’s a dream to drive

      Everyone knows people bought previous STI for their legendary rally handling. For 23 VB we put $5k in coilovers, bushings, sways, wheels and 200tw tires but when we took it to Willow Springs and drove back to back with my husband's STI and the STI was on a whole other level. A Subaru engineer was at the track event and he explained the STI has front LSD, center DCCD diff, rear LSD and that the new VB to save costs uses the SUV global platform open diff front and rear with brake vectoring, that's why the handling is way behind

      The black cladding is a pain, I’ve had cladding on my wife’s Honda passport, and we have it on the new explorer St we replaced it with. Chemical guys makes a good product for plastic, vinyl , and rubber. That keeps it clean, gives it some UV protection, and shines it up so it stays looking new. Otherwise they fade into an ugly grey color over time.

    Really glad to hear you're happy with you purchase, Austin! Also looking forward to seeing the new car you have on order (I think you hinted at it in one of your replies to me in your previous video). Just out of curiosity, if the car market was more normal, say pre-pandemic normal, would you have still gotten the WRX, or would you have gone for something else (assuming you could have gotten the car you wanted, at a price that was reasonable)? Just wondering how much you feel you "settled" for the WRX, even though you really love it.

    • @mikimenendez
      @mikimenendez Před rokem +3

      @@Gonin60 oh yes I did! The GR Corolla, the GR Yaris and the WRX.
      Many differences. The GRs are better in the handling and the brakes, but the interior disappoints. Engine is pretty funny, but not as they want you to believe, none really puts “a smile on your face”. The Gr Yaris feels faster than the Corolla even if numbers say the opposite.
      The WRX is way better as a daily and it’s engine feels as strong as the Toyotas, but the big difference is that you cannot really hear the engine and its acceleration is very linear. The Toyotas can be revved a lot more which gives the sensation of a faster car.
      The 0-60 time is better on the GRs because you don’t have to change into 3rd gear, but after 60 miles/hour the WRX is solid compared to the other two.
      After watching every possible review and comparison of the GR Corolla against the world I had to try it, and my expectations were too high…
      Nobody wants to say it but the truth is that the GR Corolla is overhyped. It’s manual, fun, simple, but not impressive.
      WRX offers an overall same value for a considerable smaller price.

I really wanted a Type R ever since the last gen so when the 11th gen came around I was hoping to have a 2nd chance but dealer markups and the price increase ruled it out again. Having owned 2 WRX's in the past, I considered it but really wanted a hatch. GTI was considered but past experiences with reliability issues ruled it out. I found an immaculate slightly used Kona N CPO car. I never thought I would buy a Hyundai let alone an automatic but it is just so good. Mini Clubman JCW All4 - no regrets paid $3k UNDER MSRP and took 2 months to arrive after ordered (including a trip across the pond). I looked at the usual suspects but could not justify the crazy over MSRP that dealers were (are) charging - I hesitated even posting this as it seems to still be a secret but given that they are stopping production on the Clubman and I've got mine it doesn't really matter. I think the WRX is like a lot of first year models are - they look like butt at first (even in person) but grow on you (like a fungus) - I'd even go out on a limb and say that in 10 years the current gen may not be the "best" WRX gen but it'll be up there not at the bottom of the list...

    You don’t have to justify your purchase to anyone as long you’re happy with it. I used to own a 13’ WRX hatchback and loved it. I just bought a car that no enthusiast is going to drool over, a 2023 Honda Civic Hatchback, top model, because I just no longer want to drive a manual with as nice as auto transmissions are these days. Guess I’m just getting old, lol. I hear the CVT in the new WRX is a huge improvement also, so maybe down the road I might get me one. The Civic is still pretty fun to drive without being harsh like the SI, nor was it a markup ripoff like the SI. The car market is wild now. Subaru seems to be the only one that has their sh*t together. I tried to get a Toyota in 2021. I ordered one and was told 7 more weeks many many times. Same with Ford. Back to Subaru I go. I've missed having a Subaru, anyways.

    What about the Elantra N? I pre-ordered the wrx based on nostalgia. Owning them previously etc.. but was worried about short gearing and a low 6000rpm redline? To me they didn’t want to develop a new engine and borrowed the engine from the ascent, verbatim chucked it into the wrx and relied on nostalgia. I did preorder but when I was able to drive it, I was a little disappointed. I felt like if not for the strong awd launch it wasn’t actually too fast. Lightening for first two gears and then sort of fell away. My previous 2012 wrx seemed faster. I then drove an Elantra N and changed my mind. I preferred the strong roll on performance of the Elantra N. If you live in wild weather then fair enough AWD is a must but for all other conditions the Elantra N seems to be a few steps ahead

    • @JonTran75
      @JonTran75 Před rokem +2

      But for the positives, I like the basic no nonsense feel of the wrx, it’s a throw back to older wrx cars, they to me feel well built, they feel rugged to me more so than the Elantra N. Seems to be more upside with tuning and mods as they have a bigger displacement low boost engine. I also liked the handling, they feel chuckable.. all the reviewers bag out the wrx and say the Elantra N is a darling but they are closer than what reviewers say. If you like a more grown up feel wrx is good.. I was genuinely 50/50 between the two, just very slightly favoured the Elantra N roll on power over the wrx launch advantage.. no wrong decision

There was a Subaru engineer at the event and we asked him why the VB handling is so bad, he explained to save costs, the new VB uses the SUV global platform's open front and rear diff with brake vectoring, and he said my husband's STI handled so good because it has front LSD, center DCCD diff, and rear LSD.
