One thing that stood out to me was iPhone has much better HDR (blue sky, details in highlights and shadows) comparing to ZV-E10. Iphone also has a wider view lens that helps in small spaces (like capturing everyone sitting inside a car).

    Ok, now I may have to upgrade my iPhone. Agree with you that in many cases, the iPhone may be best if ease of use is key. Can see that often on more of a ‘run and gun’ video shoot or on a vacation it would work very well. So quick to access too. Not cinematic (where was the 1080 slow mo hair flip test?) I really enjoyed the comparison between the two. To me the Sony looked the best, but if I didn't have that comparison, I would have thought the iPhone did a fantastic job. For some that want an everyday shooter and casual vlogging, I think the phone is a compelling choice considering you won't need to invest in various lenses. But for the more serious vlogger or cinematographer, I'd probably go with the mirrorless camera.
    Also, there are a lot of deals for the iPhone 13 Pros at the moment, so that might bring the price down considerably.

    I think the ZV-E10 looks much better. The good thing about it is that it won't be obsolete and need updates every two weeks. I appreciate you sharing this though. I am done with Iphone cameras. The last one I got was the 11 ProMax and it was suppose to be the bees knees and I can tell you it's horrible. The white balance is god awful even with apps like Filmic Pro or Movie Pro. I love how I can connect the Sony to my Imac via a Camlink and use OBS to record videos. It allows me to see myself on a monitor while I'm recording. With an Iphone to be able to see what you are doing you need to monitor via Apple Air Play which sometimes refuses to work if you need "updates". I need to see what I am doing because I make instructional videos and objects being in focus is very important. What's more I don't need to transfer any videos because they're instantly saved to my computer. I like the lens you used with the Sony. Very nice "look".

    Interesting comparision. I don't have an Iphone but my friends swear by them, they are really good for getting ordinary everyday photos and vidoes in daylight. Apple has put a bunches of effort into software to compensate for the Iphone's teeny, tiny sensor. For most people the Iphone cams are more than adequate. But if you want really great quality images and videos, there is no substitute for a mirrorless or DSLR. Personally for me, if I knew that I was going to do either photos or videos, I would use either my Sony RX10/4 or RX100/7, they both have the same sensor.

But there are a few drawbacks like no zebras for exposure, 30 min record limit, and it breaks the clips up in 4gb chunks. Thanks for thinking of the affiliate link. In this video, I used a H1N and a Boy Lav (which comes with the furry windmuff) - but you ave to sync them in post. geni.us/7iriIzP and geni.us/Bi1Oq
      But most of the time now I am using a wireless mic I really like the Holland Lark 150 - so that I don't have to sync in post: geni.us/7mQP BUT don't forget to get the furry windscreen - that makes all the difference geni.us/kxWL
      I use both these setups constantly.

    Excellent comparison. It does make sense. I would have liked to see you mentioning how hard it was for a PC/Mac to do all the post process in the Catalyst Browser. I mean, how much work one would have to do to get a stable footage like the iPhone's for instance. We need to take that in consideration for regular shooters. How about the battery for the ZV1, can you shoot a documentary like you said with only a single charge? Of course not, so it's the same issue one would run if the short storage on the iPhone as you mentioned.
    But yeah, definitely an iPhone won't replace a mirrorless camera, but it will complement it. I'm sure you are likely yo have it on you all the time, but how about the Sony???

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Před 2 lety +4

      Catalyst browse takes about 3-5 mins to stabilize a one minute clip of footage. My computers have no trouble with catalyst browse - but of course - different computers will have different outcomes. You can get about 100 mins of 4K recording on the ZV-E10. I did a video abiut the battery life if you want to check it out. 👍👍

    Could you consider doing a review of an older alpha series camera?
    For example, already own an a6500 is it worth the upgrade? Pros and cons of staying with and/or upgrading?
    In point of fact that is my exact quandary and the second hand value of my a6500 is roughly the same price as the zv new.
    Should I consider it?
    Love your content and watched most of it now!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Před 2 lety +1

      I will try to get some older models in for sure. It would be interesting. The a6500 is going to be better for photos because of the viewfinder and stabilization and weather sealing. For video, you have catalyst browse options, no record limit, eye autofocus, better color science, flip screen. So, if you like what you’re getting out of the a6500 and and you don’t want to use the gyro data, you still have some advantages with the a6500.

    Hey I always watching your zv e10 ( Doug ) comparison and now that you compare with iPhone , perhaps compare with go pro 8 next if you can ? I am curious which one vlogging is better .

    • @truthseeker6804

      gopro 8 good for action sports which zve10 cant replace. zve10 would do way better in low light/indoors.
      in sumary
      sports = gopro
      photos and non sports videos = zve10
      if you want to do sports + daylight vlogging = gopro
      vlogging + cinematic videos = zve10
      my recommendation get both. i personally use dji osmo action, you can check that out, quiet affordable, so you can use the remainder to buy zve10. because honestly gopro and zve10 are for different stuff.

      Go with the iPhone for now - DSLR or mirrorless cameras require a lot of learning to get them to work well. Maybe borrow one or rent one for a while to see if it works for you

    Thanks Mark, good review. I’m considering upgrading from an iPhone 8+ to the new 13pro but I would want the 500 gig. I would need the 500 gig 🤣 Like you I prefer the ZV E10. There are times when I still use the iPhone just for time and convenience and mix both in post. Also, low light video always seems better on an iPhone so I use it when I’m not using a light. Mirrorless with the 16mm Sigma wins overall in my opinion 👍👍

    I agree, I have been using my Iphone 12 Pro max for my CZcams videos for the last 6 months before getting my ZV-E10 and i got really good footages using app that allows me to control camera settings, alot of ppl thought i m using a mirrorless Camera! the downside is the storage, inability to see yourself or see if you are recording or not! I m waiting maybe in future we get a little screen back on the phones, that solves these problems and close the gap between mirrorless camera and a Phone !

      zv1 for vlogging, zve10 for static tripod videos. you can use zve10 for vlogging if you want to go through extra process of software stabilization. but still zv1 is better for vlogging because less rolling shutter in 4k.

      I would recommend the Zv-E10 for a budget (although they are very hard to find due to a chip shortage). If you have more to spend, A7C or A7iv or the canon R6.

Still love my Sonys’ ZV1 and AX43. I’m still open to option like what iphone is trying to do but not this time. We will see next year.
