- A man died Sunday during a hike on the El Capitan Trail in Lakeside.

Its real simple, FREEZE one bottle of water for each hiker and store them together. When heat stroke begins apply the frozen bottle to the back of the neck and all over the head. I have saved my life three times this way so far. And yes, I was an EMT.

It's quite common that people do not understand hydration or heat illnesses, most truly don't. The more people who have basic First Aid training the better, it can help so much
Hikers know you need atleast 3 liters of water and some snacks for this trail. Saw people a few weeks ago only carrying small bottles of water even though the trail clearly states not to proceed without a certain amount of water. If you ignore the warning signs that are posted everywhere, then you alone are putting yourself at risk.
@@boblatkey7160 you would run out on the way back. Make sure you bring enough water. Knowing you limit is important agree.

I tried to do devils punchbowl a decade ago from the water tower trailhead. It was 95°.
I had a gallon of water and it was downhill.
Within 30 minutes I was out of water and had heatstroke.
Tolerances are different for everyone.

I see people like this all the time. It people that hike on vacation then go to these very different places. If you hike you need water. Plain and simple

There are multiple factors that can affect a person's response to ambient temperature. --- did y'all know certain medications increase sensitivity to heat?

As a community of good citizens, more people need to know CPR and Basic First Aid.
Heat stroke hits hard & fast! The victim probably won't recognize he's in trouble. It happened to me, fortunately, the man I traveled with recognized the symptoms and rendered First Aid. I was much better in about 20 minutes.
Effective treatment is not rocket science.
All the young parents out there: could you recognize if your infant, toddler, or pre-schooler was in trouble?
Have you taken infant and child CPR?

He must’ve been drinking heavily the night before and didn’t hydrate.
Yeah, probably got $h*t-housed the night before at the local pub and got talked into going on a hike with his party animal buddies who didn't know this dude's limitations! LOL!
