Thank you for walking through every map of fe7 one day after I finished my ironman.
I like a compromise between hard and soft ironman I call the "Look out, sir!" rule. If you get a game over, you can start the map over, but select one of your units that was deployed at random. Have that unit die at the earliest convenience (along with any other units that died on your failed chapter), the logic being that that unit sacrificed themselves to "protect" whatever lord or plot critical NPC died. Lets you keep an ironman run you're enjoying going without being able to cheese a map through game over resets.
I'm not good enough to play an Ironman, but I really like this idea and I'd love to see it used by more people. (I assume it's not super common to do.)

As someone who struggles with Hector Hard mode in general and has never finished it, I'm excited for this video.
The best ironman strategy is:
-Check for cavalry effective weapon
-If not there: send Marcus into every enemies range.
-Give all statboosters to him or a later busted unit like Harken or Vaida
-Let Athos solo the last chapter.
Don't forget to save the body ring for Athos so he doesn't get weighed down by Luna

Here's my top 5 tips having played this game from a young age!
Tip 1: Use Rebecca
Tip 2: Marcus is useless, he's not made of iron, so he's not worth using
Tip 3: Eliwood is the most busted unit in the game, feed him every kill, every single kill; I don't care if he's level 20, f e e d
Tip 4: Just have fun! The only way to have fun is to use Rebecca
I was so confused when you were talking about ch 11 because i had the exact octopath ost you were playing open but paused in another tab and thought i was accidentaly playing it through the video
I'd love more like this. I don't know if I'll ever actually do an iron man, but the tips are still useful.
Lost my first fe7 ironman by getting eliwood impaled by a pegasus Knight and have been pondering about doing it again and this is a nice tip over the edge to start another run.
Though one of the gripes I have is how HHM deployment slots are so contested that I can't use all the units I want to use unless someone dies off.

I feel like the sleep staff in 19xx warrants a mention. You don't have a method of restoring at that point, and you don't want to lose your momentum to an important unit taking a snooze.
Also, while I don't recommend training them overall... If you do happen to be in possession of a cracked Wil or Rebbeca, they can do a lot of work on this map with the ballistae, potentially dealing, or at least assisting in dealing with the thieves, the other ballistae, and also the previously mentioned sleep staff.
Great timing on this upload: I just started an FE7 HHM playthrough that I was on the fence about calling an Ironman run. I already got a Game Over by getting Hector killed, but didn't want to call it GG, so it's good to know the difference between soft and hard Ironmans.

Over the past couple weeks I've been binge watching a ton of your GBA content from over the years thanks to FE7 coming to NSO. I originally casually played through it, 6 and 8 some years back but am now totally addicted. Recently cleared Normal mode and am quickly running through Hector Normal to unlock Hard mode and super excited to just play through it and try to make stuff more optimal and that.
Just wanted to say thank you for content like this and all the other stuff you've been creating over time, especially the GBA FEs, they're definitely my favourite!

Just wanted to mention that with regards to chapter 15 and Sealen that the placement for Marcus does work. On proceeding turn however, often he utilises his longbow, meaning that a nomad occupies the closet slot in the alcove. But by that point, Marcus has defeated the armour knights blocking the path and can normally just walk up and knock the fool on the head.
Also, in chapter 20, if you have an untrained Lord or need to take some portions of the map a little more slowly, but still want to complete the secondary objectives of recruiting Legault and obtaining the member card, you can rush 3 trained units possessing healing items relatively safely to the north west of the map and block 3 vertical tiles of that corridor. If you do this, Legault will stop moving, and the remaining thieves will instead filter down towards chests 2 and 3 instead of escaping.
yeah if Marcus does that turn 1 then Sealen should be low on HP. i think in my negative growths run i finished him off with Erk from there.
This is a good level of detail for the map objectives and I think this will help a lot of players new to the iron man challenge.
This may be out of scope, but potentially including a long-game checklist for hard iron man roadblock chapters like the Pent and Zephiel rescue maps could be useful to players. Granted what is available in an iron man is variable, but things like training staff users, fliers, etc. for specific purposes takes place over multiple maps and discussing these strategies outside the map-to-map discussion may be helpful. But this type of thinking may be more relevant to randomizer iron mans where you can't rely on getting specific unit types, weapons, etc. at specific points.

Personally I'd do recommend trying out Path of Radiance with Permadeath on your first run. They're pretty simple with not much inside knowledge needed and it was a cool feeling to have this unique experience with the tense feeling of possible losses - I don't know about other FEs but generally the older games due to being simpler are easier to learn on the run compared to the modern titles imo. Overall it is better to learn the games first before trying an Ironman and I would always recommend starting out with a game you like and know about.
And if you really want a challenge try out Vision Quest blind ironman :3
I liked the video a lot. I wish there was a guide like this when I started doing iron mans. With that said I think that people who play hard mode are more likely to already know this kind of thing. I think most people who will need these guides are more likely to play on normal mode. Playing strategy games like fire emblem is a skill, and it’s hard to not see strategies once you do. I think incorporating more gameplay screenshots to show the practice rather than just the theory. Again I liked the content it was helpful to see things differently than I normally do.

Honestly most of this video points are really good even in non ironman run, especially how to get some villages/chests before enemies get them. That can be excruciatingly painful when not playing ironman and having to restart the whole chapter because you couldn't get the promo item or useful rare weapon in time.
Where was this 2 yrs ago? I burned through atempts before I finally did it.
Nice guide! Recently started my FE7 ironman and its been fun... but i lost guy to some super low chance hits which hurt but was fine... then oswin got hit by a 4% crit in chapter 16. So that was incredibly painful.

The FE9 version of this will be pretty funny, unless it's written for Maniac Mode or something. I felt like an ironman of that game was borderline impossible to lose because Ike was so easy to build into a juggernaut

Does anyone know how the torch staff glitch works, I can't find a tutorial anywhere and I'm trying to help someone skip battle before dawn.
I think you have to reset the exact moment an enemy unit steps on the tile you torch staffed on (or put a mine on, used a torch on, etc...)

Very interested in the next part of this. I'm actually stuck in Genesis. I don't think there is a way out for me besides getting lucky. Only one restore staff.
Using Ninis's Grace / Filla's Might on a unit prevents them from being targeted by status while their buff status is active, so you can put Restore with one half and Ninian with the other
Unarmed units (without any usable weapons or staves in their inventory) won't be targeted by any status. So you can have one unit hold the others' weapons and vice versa, then move into enemy range and trade weapons to attack

I have been absolutely floundering some HHM iron man runs, that haven't made it past chapter 17. It's mostly because I made a point of not using Marcus much, but I regret that choice.
Also, Lyn. This game hates her. Chapter 16, the noble lady of Caelyn is a run ender. And many times there was not much I could have done about it. Lyn is 1-2 shot by most enemies and her crew is rushed early on. Some bad rolls and it's over. One attempt I missed to 80% attack on the pegasi, so Will an sain had no chance.

Attack is total attack as in Str+Mt... Def is just a straight attack-def thing.
Triangle advantage is +1 attack and +10 avoid. Which as you know is important because of meme (90-1 , who will win. Oh look its the enemy with a critical)

most units cannot attack diagonal unless they have more than 1 range cause... I think the game calculates it as front then side
