CAN I BEAT A POKÉMON PEARL HARDCORE NUZLOCKE WITH ONLY NORMAL TYPES!? (Pokémon Challenge)

- Buckle in... this Pokemon challenge is CRAZY. Normal type Pokemon have no supereffective same-type-attack-bonus and Diamond & Pearl have some INSANE battles. Will we make it through?
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Pearl Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Normal types?

(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.

Got it boss

Hey silph what about a run with only pokemon that contain a singular type?
Edit: pokemon can be different types like a fire or a rock etc. But they cant be dual typed
Dragon Rage only does 40 hp, btw
So um what ever happened with the honey tree
If u do a push up every time he gets crit in this video, u wouldn't need a gym
eh, he actually got insanely lucky with the AI basically sparing him five or six times tho
Where else would you get your 8 badges?
Yep I did that and I'm still fat):
@@theduck4573 ?
immy try it
Here I thought I was unluckiest Pokémon player, but never have I ever seen such an unlucky run. Kudos for not quiting the run; I know I would have.
I’m EXCUSE ME?? He hit 2 focus blasts in a ROWWWW
Lol he literally hit all the hypnosis getting 3 turns sleep, I would have wiped there for a double miss. If you consider the run "unlucky" I envy you because you're not as unlucky as you think you are #justunluckyplayersthings
He used his luck up on the rollout strat on Roark, the two consecutive connecting Focus Blasts, and the Pokérus. That is why it took five more runs to get back to Spear Pillar.
@@aurifomo6385 Yeah, that one lucky battle vs. the like 20+ times he got critted, sometimes multiple times in a row, even when those crits were 1/16 chances.
@@kazenna that's TOO lucky
(Just exaggerated)
this team has serious Ash energy. literally in the anime he'll beat some stupid strong foe with just an aipom
But then he turns around and loses to some noob a couple episodes later
Just to get an “inspiration” and beat everyone except the champion so it can get another season
And then only win after seven conferences, albeit with clear progression in his training such that in each conference he grows higher in rank when his loss happens.
The freak
He wins with the power of friendship
Ah, yes, focus blast. 50 accuracy for you, 100 for your opponent.
No, it's - - - accuracy for your opponent.
In my experience, both of us miss lol.
I have a similar experience with confusion (the status condition, not the move). When my Pokemon gets confused it hits itself every turn and snaps out after 5-7 turns but when the opponent's Pokemon gets confused it lands every attack and snaps out of confusion after 2 turns.
I thought for you it had 5 accuracy, and for opponents it had 1000 accuracy
To quote CTC’s line from the 2019 cypher “Focus Blast hit like Death and Taxes”
Sheesh you had some tough luck at the end... You win some you lose some:/ still, respect for making it that far!
Twig! here a fan!
Ayo the Twig is here
At the end he had shitty luck THE ENTIRE TIME
He actually got a sp. Def drop on the bastiodon with focus blast, I thought that was a myth
So did I but that's probably because I never saw focus blast actually hitting a foe.
Omg I never see normal type nuzlockes so I'm extra hyped for this one
Antlerboylive did one in platinum if you want to check it out.
FlagonHG made an emerald one a while ago
Someone called Andrew Will upload one in the future his full youtube username is The Andrew Cottle Show
How? Like have you been hiding under a rock or something? There is a crap ton of nuzlockes who has done it.
Antlerboy: *Hold my beer*
I like how how you showed us the first run where you lost but carried on from that point in a different run, greatly appreciated
I love these long videos. So nice to listen to while playing my own Nuzlockes.
This was the worst luck I’ve seen in a run in a long time. Well done, Silph!
Suprised you didn't pick turtwing so your rival would have a starter thats super effective. For the lolz of course
Probably PTSD from the last gen 4 challenge
He rarely does that, can't handle the challenge I guess
@@aurifomo6385 lol "can't handle the challenge" ok Badass Barry
Auri Fomo
It's almost as if some people play these games more for their own entertainment and less for your sadistic pleasure? "Can't handle the challenge" as he has to do 6 runs for this one video. It was challenging enough without handing your rival a super effective powerhouse like Infernape. Some people just don't ask for an added challenge, and it's fine. I'd rather watch someone actually having fun, rather than being a constant ball of stress or frustration because of an optional and unnecessary choice.
Sorry if you were just goofing around, but honestly it gets super annoying to see all these "I'm better than this Nuzlocker because of this thing I'd do/saw others do" comments. Like are you actually a pro nuzlocker, or do you just watch other people do them? Are you giving good constructive criticism, or are you just trying to make someone feel bad?
@@yesterdaystomorrow5510 "Some people just don't ask for an added challenge, and it's fine" so you agree with me, he can't handle the challenge. Not my fault if people get offended over an objective truth. If he is satisfied with the challenge he poses to himself, then he'd just agree with my comment and move on. There are loads of videogame challenges, pokemon related or not, that are way too hardcore for me so one could say "I can't handle it" and I would never dream of getting offended about it. If my comment makes anyone feel bad maybe it's their problem for not being able to come to term with their skills or lack thereof? :)
I was convinced that Purugly was Dark-Type!
An entertaining run, as always.
Honestly that would fit it more than Liepard
i honestly thought it was poison for some reason
Fun fact: purugly is faster then Latios and latias…
@@jumpyjumpjumpjumps2369 also, cranidos has higher attack than arceus, and it is just the first gym.
@@kohinoorbanerjee4009 u mean rampardos?
Oh man, I've been looking forward to this run!! I was in the Twitch chat for most of the runs, and I actually suggested Duchess' name!!
Tough luck though. Well played, and kudos to you for being a champ and sticking it out passed all that horrible luck
i am actually surprised you had a decent number of encounters for this run since diamond and pearl are infamous for their dreadful amount of pokemon available
Infamous for only have 2 fully evolved fire types, rapidash and infernape
@@shankpain1354 true but it still has a very limited pokedex
@@mattmc1234 150 just like most of the games
@@shankpain1354 It only has like 2 or 3 Electric and Ice types as well. Dragon was also extremely limited but I think that's true of Dragon in every Game before the Gen 5 sequels.
The game can even be a bit greedy with its encounters
It was an honor to watch this Stream from Attempt 4 onwards. No one could've done any better.
@Salt Bringer u can get leftovers in Pearl? Where?
My top 3 skill wise
PC
Flygon
Silph
@@chefgrizz6284 I doubt the third one
RSG_ Grizz
I'd personally add Antlerboy to that list. If you haven't watched his videos, check them out! They're good runs and pretty funny. If you like Flygon, you might like Antler.
I think i prefer it if you include clips from your different attempts. Makes the nuzlockes seem all the more challenging and the actual win way more satisfying. Love your vids!
I got mad seeing all those crits dealt by the opponent, and I'm just a spectator! This is the sort of run (I mean multiple failed runs) that can break a person. Silph's resilience is remarkable throughout all this, that's a major understatement
I punched my bed for you. The number of crits that happened to take your pokemon out were so undeserving. Respect for making it that far and not quitting
I think these have been the most cursed runs I've ever seen in all of the HC nuzlucke videos I've ever watched. Props to you for sticking it out Silph
I love the coincidence of him naming his Rival Larry, on a normal type nuzlocke, and a year later, Scarlet and Violet release with a normal type gym leader named Larry.
Another week another hardcore nuzlocke love it.
Amazing run Silph I remember catching afew of the attempts on twitch. 100% of the toughest ones I've seen you do but major props for sticking to it.
Girafarig is one of this forgotten pokemons that i love. Thank you for this Run and congratulations for the win, you deserved it so much.
That was crazy as hell. Damn mad respect for keeping the grind going after them Cyrus wipes
Just to let it be known *just* how unlucky he got in this video:
Enemy crits (non-boosted odds): 16
Enemy crits (boosted odds): 8 (3 in one battle)
95% accurate move misses: 4
Misses via accuracy drops: 2
Enemy Hypnosis hits: 3 (all in one battle)
Self-hits via confusion: 8
10% add-ons from damaging moves (Bite flinches, Psybeam confusions, Defense drops, etc.): 7
Keep in mind this is only what can be shown in the video, there's probably a lot more across all Silph's attempts, and this doesn't include other things like Candice's Medicham plays or Barry's stupid AI in the double battle.
Safe to say, I fully respect Silph's ability to keep going through all these failures, a dedication that I wish I had.
I did a spit take when I heard Larry using a Starly, what are the odds!? Not only the name of a Normal gym leader, but pre-evo to his ace as well?! This is Larry's backstory for sure
Dear lord that was some of the worst luck I have ever seen in any nuzlocke, RNG really said "Fuck you" this time around huh
All of his luck was used up after the first gym's Onix was KO'd by Rollout.
I actually just beat this game with only a starpator, of course I was overleveled. Hardcore nuzlocke though, Bibarel has a pretty diverse move pool via TM, Lopunny isn't half bad, and I know Staraptor is a beast so
Watching this at the end of 2022 and seeing the rival of a normal only run being named Larry is kind of amazing
that ending legit infuriated me. If that stupid Roserade didn't dodge your first ice beam you would've- AHHHHHHHHH
I watched this one live and there were so many devastating losses 😭
Yea I felt like crying but good job silph
Been waiting for a normal nuzlocke. Let's see how you finesse this one
Hats off to you for the perseverance, Silph.
Silph's crit luck was so bad, you'd think he was Werster
Thank you very much Silph! I like diamond and pearl very much! I was willing to see another of these challenges, thank you! I've never played actually but I like the season very much! Maybe I'll be playing one day, if there was an emulator good enough to play this version, like the GBA for emerald, that I could set a speed run button... But I really enjoy just watching, it's really fun!
Jeeeez, 6 whole attempts and you just *barely* didn't make it! I'm kinda inclined to say you DID win anyway, bc of all those crits, but damn... So close!
All of these nuzlockes are like a movie with these crazy chain of events. Every single one seems to have some miraculous ending whether good or bad.
This is beautiful. Thank you Silph! I love watching your content!!!
Stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and i like it a lot. You have a calm and soothing way of talking it's nice. Keep it up man !
It was great seeing this after lurking the Twitch streams. Absolutely incredible showing. Clutch end. Worst luck ever but in my heart you won.
Sylph: Kirby is a beast.
Me: Your Clefable or the original?
Sylph: Both!
I gotta say, this was the first normal type nuzlocke I have ever seen. It was quite entertaining.
The crazy luck/irony with naming the rival Larry
This is absolutely magnificent. Not only do your actions and decisions speak volumes about just how knowledgeable, quick on your feet and - well - brilliant (pearl) you are; you also guide us through this insane hell of a run with a script that cranks up the already mind-boggling intensity to eleven - in short: I absolutely adore you and your content,‘please keep it up!
Alternate title: RNG hates me as I try and play Pokémon.
I enjoy your contents too much, LOVE YOU SILPH!!! KEEP UP!
Haven't even gotten through the ads and this is a great way to start my Sunday
In my country sunday is about to
end :(
My boy Silph with another video! Now thats a great way to start the day :))
Was waiting for this one 🔥
I look forward to these all week!
Congratulations on a new run! Thanks to your channel I came back to playing Pokemon, and am currently on mt 3rd Sword Hardcore Nuzlocke ever lol (the first one was a wipe against Leon, but the second one was a successful one!)
Love your content! Just started a Platinum Normal type Nuzelock myself. This video has been very helpful so far! After 6 wipes against Roarck I managed to get past him deathless, a combination of luck and a crap ton of attack EV training worked wonders.
Thanks. I love your walkthrough challenges!
this is one of those great nuzlockes where we need intimidate staraptor AND simple/bulk up or moody/substitute Bibarel to stay alive no matter what; restarting anytime we lose either of them. Munch/Snorlax is a great run saver too. ambipom, girarafarig, purugly, clefable, persian, lopbunny, are great, but are far less solid.
THERE IS NO B IN LOPUNNY!
Great vid as always and definitely a tough challenge run. Cheers man
Finally this vid is out lol this run took so long on twitch guys you have no idea good job Silph
14:08 dragon rage always does a set amount of damage (40 hp) which is why it didn't get affected by reflect. Also because it's a special move but that doesn't matter anyways
Normal types! really a great challenge you had, silph! great job again~~!
Jupiter was having exactly none of silph’s stall tactics today 😂
Ive binged theough all of the monotype nuzlocke videos you have posted and know how much watson is the bane of your existence when you use ruby/sapphire/emerald i thought how awesome it would be to see you pull off a flying type nuzlocke for those games
Gen 4 was my first major pokemon game so always nice to see challenge runs on it. Good stuff.
I hope he never stops doing this cuz he's the authentic difficult AF runs
Kudos for persevering, man. Awesome Video !
This video is pretty big proof of how a run can be dead long before it actually is. So many plays had to be made around the fact that Staraptor with Close Combat/Intimidate wasn't there, and Bibarel's movepool + water typing. While the bad luck was the run killer in the end, the fact is there just were many improvements to make. While you had strategies, those early losses lead to the snowball effect of having to play around more pokemon leading to more opportunities for crits leading to the loss.
Was literally planning a normal type playthrough on the new games as well 🤣🤣
I was wanting to on Soul Silver! Ah well lol
Daaaaang! This was so good, The ending was unexpected
Oooh yea man, I got company for today's workout as well ❤️
I have not seen anyone get haxed as much as you in this run
This was crazy lol I am still watching your channel every day lol hahaha
These are my fave videos I love them to just relax even though some have made me a lil anxious lol. I hope we see similar vids like this!
Yo silk I've watched all your true power videos and I want to say that you are doing purely good and don't let anybody tell you diffrent
22:29 I spent so long wondering what happened with the first honey tree.
The fact that the rival is named Larry while Larry is the new normal type gym leader in gen 9
Love these challenge runs! I would like to see you try an ice type run one of these days!
Man, hardcore nuzlockes are very hard and a lot of these challenges are being lost but you always showcase the most ingenuous strategies so it's awesome, keep up the good work
Oh boy, all those partywipes... Chapeau to your dedication
Nuzlocke Idea : Kecleon Type Run
1 st encounter / starter - has to be the same type as the 1st gym is (rock if you are playing Pearl)
After obtaining a badge you can get another encounter depending on what the next gym type is (grass if you are playing Pearl), repeat until the final badge.
Bonus challenge : Must use Kecleon if you can get it as a viable encounter (ignoring the gym badge catching rule)
Really enjoying you content Silph, keep up the good work.
I like how bidoof had a nature that you didn't want. The almighty knows that you are doing a challenge run hence it purposely weakened itself.
that was a roller-coaster of emotions
Oh man you have todo this again and win this time!
Full support. This stuff brings me mad hype.
Amazing video!! Pearl is a great game, but have to admit I was surprised it wasn't Platinum which has a couple more normal type options.
Hype. I love your videos man
This is my favorite hardcore nuzlock vid ever , it was intense xD
I wonder if the togepi egg thing is exclusive to platinum? A togekiss would’ve been a great adding
It is a platinum exclusive yes
@@destinygalearies7382 Pain. It would have been very helpful.
@@_V.Va_ yeah especially if the togepi you get from cynthia was have a serene grace
Man you really put in work with your mono-normal run so you have nothing but my respect for this! If you haven’t yet, could you do a bug/poison type run?
Not gonna lie this video had me on the edge of my seat and I dropped everything else to give it my total attention. A great run!
I laugh inside when anyone says Flint is a fire type elite 4 member in Diamond and Pearl especially when I know they can’t keep a straight face
Oh I'd be heated ......all those damn crits
Amazing Silph. Was such a good challenge. Here's hoping there is a steel type in the future. See you at the stream later.
TMonty x
I probably would have quit if I didn’t get a simple bidoof, you’re an absolute god, silph
i was wanting to play through the gen 4 games again and you've inspired me to (not as hard as this or anywhere close) but a duo type poison/grass play through on plat and still working on the team concepts for diamond and pearl!
This should be interesting to watch in the morning 🌄 🔥
Because of your channel, I’m playing through all the regions with one type. I did Normal on FireRed, Water in HG, I’m doing ground on emerald, Will do poison in platinum, flying in White2, grass in Y, dark in Ultra Moon, and Psychic in shield
Edit: also one thing I would like to see is like a time going on like a speed run. Just to show the time done.
This Ground type emerald challenge is really hard
That Blissey stall against Fantina LOL
A person from the future here. Nicknaming your rival Larry is pretty funny since the gen 9 Normal type gym leader is named Larry.
Unluckiest run ever...Well done dude loved it anyways
Thank you for the amazing run=3
oof this was brutal lmao good job silph
