      Please don't, that freekick shouldn't have happened in the first place. First of all, there was no foul, the player from Ghana took a very obvious dive (1:25). And after taking the freekick, there were 2 players off side (1:35), and again, the referee did nothing. Suarez did what he had to do because of FIFA's corruption.

    As an American, full respect to Suarez. To be that passionate to stop the ball from going in with his hand knowing he will be hated and not play the next game.
    Anyone who doesn’t like Suarez for this is very stupid. He rightly got sent off, Ghana rightly got the penalty and fluffed it. That’s their fault.
    However, the hand of god wasn’t punished and the goal stood so the 2 instances are not comparable

      There's nothing honorable about a lapse in character and sportsmanship broadcasted in front of the whole world. Not only did he make himself look like a jackass, but he brought shame to his entire country and will never be forgiven for this. If this were to happen the other way around Uruguay would be up in flames. Add this moment to a history of biting players on the field and this man gets no respect from me.

    It's only cheating if you're intentionally trying to deceive the referee. If not, it's just an infraction. In light of that, what Suarez did was in no way cheating. He broke the rules because he knew it would give his team their best chance to win the game - no different than a sliding tackle from behind when a runner is in on goal. It was a calculated decision that paid off in the end. Ghana have no one to blame for losing than themselves. If Gyan just sticks in the penalty or scores against 10 men in extra time no one even remembers the Suarez handball today.

    Why does no one mention the fact that the Ghanaian player Dominic Adiyiah committed a huge dive to win the free-kick, that the handball incident stemmed from. Fucile was nowhere near him.
    Whose shot did Suarez block with his hands, Dominic Adiyiah’s. How unfair would it have been for Uruguay to exit the World Cup due to a huge dive, with the diver himself scoring the knockout goal? So two wrongs made a right and Ghana had no right to feel robbed.
    Also Uruguay had a blatant penalty not given earlier in extra time, when Abreu was fouled in the box.

    • @Gizo02
      @Gizo02 Před 5 lety

      Also Stephen Appiah was offside when the ball was headed on after the free kick was taken, so had Adiyiah scored his goal shouldn’t have stood anyway.

    I'm Ghanaian and when this happened I was just 8. Lord knows I cried so much that night.. I'm even tearing up rn.. and I couldn't stop hoping that there was a time machine I could hop into and go back in time to before the match and whisper in Asamoah Gyan's ears, "Play it down the middle, just play it down the middle".. yeah, it was silly but that's the only solution my 8 year old brain could find for what had just happened to our nation. We were about to make history and become the first African Country to make it to the Semis of the World Cup and it was all ruined by a silly act by a Uruguayan player, an act a whole continent and the world will never forget. It's all part of the beauty of the game and I accept that. This was my experience as a Ghanaian
