Even just watching this ad brings tears to my eyes. I LOVED Diana Nyad's story when she succeeded, and you could not have chosen a better pair of actresses doing this film than Annette Bening and Jodie Foster ... Can't wait to watch the makeover of the real deal, even though the real story and documentaries made of the feat were in themselves glorious and would not have needed a retell ...

Read the book, was riveted. Just watched a screening, and it's fantastic. and Diana was there in person. Met her. Amazing. She is 74 and has more vital life force than most 30 year olds. Love her. One of the few truly legendary humans. So grateful to have seen his with her there, hear her answer questions and remind us what life is possible. 🙌🙏
Arinette Bening and Jodi Foster have amazing chemistry. I feel like Jodi Foster was at home in this character, even though she's not the main character I'm so draw to everything she saying and feel the emotions.

@@PJ-gm1hbCan’t speak for OP, but to me women-led doesn’t mean centered around female actors, it means there were female directors and/or writers, which is something this film and Barbie have in common, and is not very common in the film industry.
Also, I definitely agree that we need more films centered around older women too!
I guess this film will give Bening the chance to be recognized for her great acting. Oscar worthy role!

Watched this last night. Riveting and moving, on many levels, maybe partly because I'm a 67-year-old woman, but my husband also enjoyed it too.
I was reading today about the controversy regarding whether or not her swim was "assisted." After watching what she presumably went through, the issue seems absurd. Her achievement is unquestionable.

Both characters drown at the end but the spirit of their endeavor lives on.

Yes, she looks very good for her age. On the other hand Benning looks like she's 75.
The answer to “why does _____ still look good despite being _ years old?” is always a combination of good genetics, access to amazing medical, dental and mental healthcare, beauty and makeup, diet and exercise - but most importantly, tastefully-done, top of the line cosmetic procedures, treatments and surgeries. Real-life plastic surgery is actually usually quite subtle, the “botched” examples seen online or in tabloids are extreme examples; the majority of people who get plastic surgery don’t look as if they’ve ever got anything done at all.

Unfortunately because it’s on Netflix I don’t think it’s eligible?? I don’t know how it works with streaming services but in the past it’s been considered as “TV” so she and Annette, who is waaaay past due will be eligible for SAG’s and Golden Globes but the Academy can be snob’s that way. But I’m psyched. I miss real actresses like this and not models or influencers posing as actresses. Jodie was so amazing in “The Accused”and “Silence of the Lambs” two very well deserved Oscars.

I met Diana when she was a commentator for ABC Wide World of Sports at the Ironman back in 1982 and I was at the back of the pack. She was so kind. Have admired her so much and love that this movie has been made! her spirit and commitment to her goals has been inspiring!

This was an amazing and inspiring movie! We have so much ageism in the United States. So glad she showed the world that people in the 2nd half of their lives can still outperform many so much younger!

Saw it and Jodie Foster was so GREAT. I think she deserves a third Oscar for this.
They are the last generation of REAL. I can’t think of two better except the OG actresses like Ellen Burstyn and Gena Rowlands. aging gracefully is part of the job. And they know it. You can’t act with Botox. I wish there were more roles for women like this. Especially Jodie. She was riveting in Taxi Driver and then just got better from there in “The accused” and “The Silence of the Lambs”… and what’s good about real actors like Jodie and Annette is they’ve done very few “money” movies. They turn down parts that are 💩. I remember the Diane Nyad story. The reason she was able to swim in such cold waters is she had an extra layer of fat, almost like a Walrus. And that’s not an insult just a fact. Can’t wait to watch this.
This film is fantastic. I've told all my friends and am going to watch it again. Benning and Foster together on the screen are like a nuclear reaction. Great script. I can't stop thinking about Nyad. Ever seen a film that sticks in your gut for days afterward? That is this.

If she really did it? There are big questions about the truth of this story. Turns out Nyad lied about a lot of her achievements when she was younger.

Just watched this movie. Glad I did. The chemistry between Annette Bening and Jodie Foster is incredible. I’ve seen more than half of the movies that are up for Best Picture and the other major awards and I have to say I think Rhys Ifans should’ve been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. He was a tremendous presence in this movie. Hands-down this was the very best movie I’ve seen him in. This movie left me in tears at the end. Well acted and well produced. Sadly, I think the other actresses will win the awards, but I think Annette and Jodie’s nominations were well deserved.

Saw this film this week and was enthralled. Great job on all fronts, just a wonderful, inspiring and beautiful film. As a 62 year old woman with so many of my dreams still unfulfilled, this spoke to me in a deep way. Can't wait to see it again, on a larger screen.
Amazing story and the movie is about people like you! You are truly champion women! You are wonderful just like this story when every dream you chase have begins with small steps.

geez louise, bening's acting even just in this trailer is breathtaking...rooting for her to finally get a statue. one of the best actors i can think of, much better to me in more movies than even a few multiple oscar winners, but she always seems to fly under the radar for some reason. it makes me wonder if she is against awards or something, and relaxes instead of campaigning. the quality of her work is unmatched. i'm still upset about her not winning for 20th century women...and she didn't even get nominated that year lol. all these prickly, self-sustaining, brilliant and strong women she's played over the years are such a gift to audiences. really looking forward to this

I watched this at TIFF; it is now one of my new favourite sports movies. The acting was excellent. Annette Bening pulled off being both slightly unlikeable and endearing all at the same time.

Now I am Vice President for Operations and continue the same failures and the idea of giving up everyday never goes away but I keep going and never give up.
