Welcome to another episode of Teachers Off Duty, where we peel back the curtain on the real world of teaching. I'm KC Mack, here with the delightful Bri Richardson and the ever-insightful Jay Yoder, ready to spill the beans on what teaching is REALLY like after winter break.
Join us as we navigate the maze of returning to school life, from the laughable little hiccups to the unexpected roles we find ourselves in, like suddenly becoming a long-term sub.
We'll also get candid with Jay about his leap into teaching Latin 3 for the first time. We also chat about the magic of switching up classroom decorations - because let's face it, even bulletin boards deserve a new year's makeover.
And for those of you hustling hard, we've got a segment for you. We'll share our stories about moonlighting as Uber drivers to make ends meet - because sometimes, teaching takes you on more roads than one.
So, hop on board this episode of Teachers Off Duty as we explore the highs and lows of diving back into teaching after winter break. From imposter syndrome struggles to classroom decoration dilemmas, and maybe pick up a few survival tips along the way.
Tune in to hear KC Mack, Bri Richardson, and Jay Yoder as they peel back the layers of post-winter break teaching. It's an episode filled with honesty, humor, and a little bit of teacher heart. Don't miss out on this enlightening and entertaining ride! - Komedie
Here's an easy tip to not be late on Monday morning. Make a Walmart pick up for all the things you need to eat for lunch and energy drinks for the week on Saturday. And after picking it up, go by your school and drop everything off in your refrigerator and at your desk area and then monday mornings are wonderful! I've been doing this for several years now.
I learned early on in my teaching career never to stay up late nights during any extended breaks because my body got used to the new schedule very quickly, and when the break was over it was awfully hard to reset my body's clock...so I just started keeping the same schedule.
Happy New Year!
I’m going to be more reflective as a teacher and not let the little things that teachers can’t change bother me (extra meetings, paperwork, and grading every week so I don’t get behind or overwhelmed)
Happy new year guys !
My new years resolution for my classroom is to stay more organized in my classroom. And to do a vision board at home. I am getting married in June. And we are trying to save for a house.
New years vision - concentrate on my mental health this year. Moving my 'homework ' to online to reduce grading and spend more time on teaching!
I’m a sophomore in high school and i’m planning on going to college to become a teacher! :)
Congrats on the 30 Bri! You are so pretty
You inspire me to keep trying
Happy New Year!
Teacher Resolution: saying no more in order to say yes to the things that truly matter.
Happy New Year Educators !
Bri really be confused
“Listen Bri!!!!”😂😂😂
Bri's New Year's resolution to "not raise her voice" has a simple solution: every time someone breaks a rule, call it like a referee, apply a prescribed consequence and move on. Do it with no emotion, no stress and no friction with your students. They will kick themselves for breaking the rule rather than expressing resentment towards the teacher.
Hi...Happy New Year!!!! My new year resolution is to complete all the doctoral program applications I am applying to, and to graduate with my Master's degree, in 2024.
I love how much of a goober KC is
Poor Bri-🤣🤣🤣🤣- extra funny episode. Good luck goin back
My resolution is to be able to maintain a Distinction in college on all my grades and I am doing that so far!
The problem at the gym I used to go to was the parking lot! When I first joined 23 years ago, the “resolutioners” lasted through the first week of February. I dropped out when COVID hit. The last 5 years or so, the “resolutioners” only lasted through about January 10.
13:54 to 17:25ish why is this whole moment so awkward and yet so somehow all 3 of them are so relatable in it
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year 🎉
Happy 2024 TO ALL🎉🎉

I'm sad the tour dates are postponed for the tour?! As a MN Teacher in a self contained room, I def related to all of the google searches and misspells.. thanks for the laugh!!!!!!
Not me, a second year teacher listening to this on winter break as I deliver with doordash 🤦🏼♀️
You guys I was SO excited y'all are coming to Texas on the tour but even with multiple cities none of them are anywhere CLOSE to me (I'm in Houston). Super bummed but LOVE y'all anyway,! next time you come through Texas visit the big cities LOL :) xoxo, First year teacher & superfan
I’m not going back to work until after the 19th, not for a fun happy reason, I’m having eye surgery on the 2nd. Starting the year off right. 🎉
As substitute para and then as a full time para I have told the teachers I work with that if they need to go to the bathroom just say so and I'll be there to let you go.
My resolution is to escape teaching!
Peace Beloved🙏🏾💜💐💎😝🙌🏾
Hopefully I will be back to working in the classroom this year. I was a teacher student that was forced to change my path to getting a different Bachelors degree so I can get an alternate certification. I'm still not graduated yet, but I will be doing online courses part-time so I can work. I hope to substitute or be a Para.
45:19 schools should be able to have volunteers or something during breaks to have camps for the kids so parents don't have to struggle to find work. Have a week or two for summer school and the rest for camp.
Summer is when painting and maintenance is done to the building.
It's happy New Year!! It is new year's eve...or new year's resolution....ownership grammar
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Get you some Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches
