      Great analysis of how the blocking scheme works...only one problem, the guy who blocked the punt sent the kicker flying. Penalty for assaulting the kicker, 15 yards, first down. This play only works if the punt blocker doesn't take out the punter in the process. Given the straight on attack of the punt blocker that seems unlikely. End result "Roughing the Punter" penalty.

    this is beyond a punting breakdown, this did a ton to help me understand rushing schemes in general. having a play like this where the rush is the entire play really helps to show how defensive coaches can use scheme to manipulate blockers and create wide open gaps! thanks so much for this breakdown, and what a terrific call by bissacia to create a huge play for his unit.

  • @goodmaro
    @goodmaro Před rokem +1

    A great deal of advanced football strategy is like this: getting the other team to waste a blocker or a tackler by drawing him to where he's not really needed, and preventing the other team from doing the same to you. In the case of special teams, a lot of that depends on knowing the standard responses to an opponent's initial look, as here, and as in a more recent analysis on this channel.

    Have you gone over to the dark side? Videos about blocking kicks?
    I wasn't ever into punting, but I think I would have been able to have done some since I liked punting and drop kicking the ball as a goalkeeper in that other football, soccer.
    I was offered a scholarship to a university last century, but had changed to pre-Med and didn't want them to dictate my life. But I never had a chance to really let them what I could do, since I had just done a tryout, kicking extra points and a couple field goals.
    I should have asked to work out with receivers, since I also was a sweeper and mid-fielder. You have to pass the ball to your teammates, but you can't use your hands. So what? You have two feet.
    All these kickoff attempts for an onside, what a bunch of Malarkey. Why are they letting it bounce? Is this a crap shoot or a game of precision?
    I used to send my fullbacks out on routes and chip it to them over the opposing team. They loved my passes, I was pretty good at that.
    WTF is wrong with these "genius" football coaches since I haven't seen my idea put in place for decades.

    • @goodmaro
      @goodmaro Před rokem

      If you're asking why the kicking team lets the ball bounce for an onside recovery, it's because the rules require it. In Federation rules it's an absolute requirement. In NCAA and NFL, it's only a requirement that no member of the receiving team still have a realistic chance to catch the ball. In Canadian rules no such requirement applies, and so as in rugby the usual onside kickoff is a high ball to the side.
