Biloela is a thriving regional country town located in Central Queensland, 572 kilometres north of Brisbane.
The district was first settled in 1854, and today, it is a busy commercial hub driven by pastoral and agricultural enterprises, including cotton, wheat and sorghum. It has colourful artwork, a great heritage centre and all the services you need in a large country town.

On our visit to Biloela, we saw The Spirit of the Land Mural, explored Queensland Heritage Park, saw the silo art and visited Mount Scoria and Callide Dam.
The Spirit of the Land Mural is on one of the town’s water reservoirs. This 100-metre round mural pieces together the stories of the surrounding country, from its pre-historic beginnings to early 20th-century times.
It is told through the eyes of two women from vastly different cultural perspectives, and their stories unfold through a series of information plaques located around the water reservoir.
The Queensland Heritage Park complex is on the outskirts of town and is open daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. It features a large collection of historical exhibits that celebrate Australia's history.
The main display area is housed in the “Silo", a structure originally built to showcase Australia's rich primary industries at the World Exhibition held in Brisbane in 1988.
You can also wander the grounds, see the heritage railway station and browse through the machinery sheds, which have a large array of vintage agricultural machinery.
At the Australian Mungbean Company, you can see three portable silos painted by The Zookeeper & Drapl in January 2023.
The Murals on the silos tell a story of local farmers checking on their crops and show the beauty of Biloela and the Callide Valley.
The Mt Scoria Conservation Park is a 15-minute drive from Biloela near Thangool. It has picnic and toilet facilities and information boards about the mountain and its surroundings.
Mt Scoria is 150 metres high and was formed by volcanic activity 20-26 million years ago. It is an amazing rare rock formation with large vertical and semi-vertical columns. It is also known as ‘Musical Mountain’ as the long six-sided basalt columns make musical notes when struck by another rock.
There is also a short walking track with information signs at the mountain’s base, which gives insight into Mount Scoria’s significance to the Gangulu people.
Callide Dam is located 12 kilometres from Biloela and is a popular fishing spot for golden perch, barramundi and red claw.
The day-use area has picnic shelters, toilets, BBQ’s and a playground.
Callide Dam was built on Callide Creek in 1965. It was upgraded in 1988, and its current storage capacity is 136,300 megalitres.
