CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Riggs (Mel Gibson) impresses Murtaugh (Danny Glover) at the shooting range.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
L.A. cop Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson), whose wife has recently died, is a loose cannon with a seeming death wish. This makes him indispensable in collaring dangerous criminals, but a liability to any potential partners. Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover), a conservative family man who wants to stay alive for his upcoming 50th birthday, is partnered with Riggs. As Riggs gets to know Murtaugh and his family, he begins to mellow, though his insistence on using guerilla tactics to catch criminals is still (put mildly) above and beyond the call of duty. The main villain is The General (Mitchell Ryan), a drug dealer responsible for the death of the daughter of one of Murtaugh's oldest friends. The General is also in charge of a deadly, militia-like gang of smugglers. Adding fuel to the fire is The General's chief henchman, played with all stops out by Gary Busey. Moviegoers familiar only with the relatively tongue-in-cheek Lethal Weapon sequels may be amazed to find out how dangerous and unpredictable Riggs is in the first Lethal Weapon -- and how likely it seems that Murtaugh might not survive until fade-out time.

With a flinch like like that, him hitting anything is movie magic.
I enjoyed the movie but after 10k $(mostly cheap ammo) of rounds?
kinda sad to see it
He blinked with each shot... that's bad right? I've never used a gun before so I have no idea.
@@neffariouspanda it's not "bad" that it makes you inaccurate but it shows us how little mel gibson has fired a handgun before. there is no reason to blink other than flinching from being startled. If someone is flinching like that with their eyes they surely are janking on the trigger as well as dipping the barrel down to compensate for the recoil. if you fire a bunch of 9mm you will figure this out
Yea? Well I guess that’s why it’s called a movie🤔

I'm impressed by Danny Glover not blinking when he shot. Nice job.
Yeah weird that Gibson flinched almost all the time when he shot
Danny Glover only took one shot and used a revolver. Gibson took multiple shots with a Beretta.
MoRiellyMoProblems What's the difference?
John Nowak Kind Sir Ah thanks.
The blinking is part of Gibsons mannerisms; those of a twitchy, unstable psychotic. He plays his role brilliantly.
A little trivia for you: Riggs' gun is the exact same one Bruce Willis used in Die Hard. I don't mean model, I mean exact same gun.

Well this came out first so Bruce Willis took it from Gibson, makes sense since people who worked on the lethal films worked on die hard as well 👍🏻 even the 92FS(lethal 1 and die hard 1 is the 92F) Gibson uses in lethal 2-4 is the same Willis uses in die hard 2-with a vengeance
And just like that....Beretta's sales went up by 200%
Rest in Peace Richard Donner. One of many great films he made.

Back when gunfire in films had a punch to it and didn’t sound like a firecracker
watch Heat or Collateral
@@bigblock67camaro both Michael Mann Films, and he is one of those rare directors who actually seems to understand how gunfire sounds. Every other movie though... they sound horribly weak, probably a side effect of people in hollywood being used to firing blank guns all the time and thinking that's how regular firearms sound.
I had a splitting headache for the next two days after the first Die Hard.
@@simonphoenix3789 Nowdays, they are even put the muzzle flashes in with CGI.
@@simonphoenix3789 It’s kind of strange how you state that gunshots sound nothing like blanks but also state that Michael Mann is rare for knowing how gunfire sounds. How do you think Mann got Heat to sound so authentic? I’ll give you a hint-he used the audio of the actors firing blanks.
The moment where Riggs moves the target back and forth and raises his brows is comedy gold, in combination with the still cinematography. Classic.
This scene is just perfect... comedy gold!

The flinch and blinking really kill this scene for me. Kate Beckinsale in the first Underworld subway scene really nailed it. She didnt blink once firing damn near full auto.
Its easy once you realise that its a movie and he's an actor and not actually a soldier and cop
Shooting rounds that flash when you’re an actor can be difficult; needed training like the guy from Terminator 2.
Can't wait for you to realise that Arnold blinks in T1 as well (yeah a machine...).
@@Taradhish Think about it, supposed to pass off as a human.. make them blink like a human!
But the T-1000 in Terminator 2 doesn't blink when he's shooting though, there's a Making Of that says the actor Robert Patrick spent a lot of time at the range specifically so that he doesn't blink when firing.
@@cykeok3525being able to fire without blinking is the Hallmark of someone who actually trains in shooting

Based on his range technique, Riggs should have been named "Blinky" or "Flinchy".

+Doug Smith Despite you being correct you are going to have film critics and self-proclaimed shooting experts saying otherwise. 😀
@@dougsmith2658
Danny Glover doesn't.
High capacity handguns were still pretty uncommon then. It's hard for young people watching this movie to understand how nutty this cop was for having this handgun, but it was common knowledge back then just how outgunned the cops were by the worst thugs. The helicopter scene was created to show everyone just how many rounds the Beretta had.
I love the fact that he's humming pretty much the whole time. It added so much to an already killer scene.haha
I love how this scene shows Riggs as the better shot, but Murtaugh's trademark skill throughout all four movies is his accuracy. It was made all the more iconic in 2. The only reason why it's not Riggs's trademark is because he's much more up close and personal. But I appreciate this division of skills.
Lmao no. Rigs hits that one guy from like 1000yards in the desert
@@MsDawnKeyballs Yes, but it's not something he consistently does across all four movies. This scene clearly shows Riggs is the better shot, but the movies give Murtaugh many more opportunities to than Riggs to show it. Murtaugh's neck stretch and then shoot is one of his trademarks.
@@Cyke101 I'd expect riggs to be a better shot dude was a special forces solider during Vietnam so most likely a macvsog team where as Rodger was just a basic solider
@@Johno1992 It's a standpoint of equity. From the very first movie, Riggs is shown to be the better shot (the gun range, the desert, etc) but Riggs does so much else and gives Murtaugh his trademark neck stretch then shot -- Murtaugh doesn't do as much in comparison to Riggs but the writers throw him a bone by giving him basically a signature move.
@@MsDawnKeyballs Prolly more like 450m - 500m. It appeared similar to the scope pic I see when I consistently shoot clays on the 500m berm with the crusty, dusty, rusty old trusty '06.
Back when movies were great
the 80's and 90's films are so amazing
If you watch Mel Gibson as he's firing and 'drawing' the smiley face, you can see his arms and hands moving in conjunction with where he's aiming, rather than just seemingly blindfiring and then coming out with the picture.
Small little details like that make scenes like this even better.
I have to admit that every time he brings that target all the way back to him, I bust out laughing every time I see that smiley face that Riggs makes!! 'Have a nice day.' LOL!! An awesome and hilarious way to end the scene! 😂😅
In reality, at that distance, he would appear to aim at the same point. Its really, practically impossible shooting, but still a great scene. The schoolyard sniper scene is highly realistic and is something a good shooter could actually do. My only complaint about it, is how long he took to reload. Someone that competent and most of all experienced, would've reloaded the instant the gun went empty. Small detail, but spoiled the perfection.
he flinched on every shot.
So bloody what! The round launching should surprise you.

Dirty Harry’s magnum and Riggs’s beretta.
Why do I feel that if The Dark Knight was made in the early 90’s or late 80’s, Mel Gibson would have been a great joker.
I noticed that the other day watching a Lethal Weapon clip actually, the one where he saying I'm going to get something to eat - his face and how he moved his jaw reminded me a lot of Heahh Ledger's Joker.
When I first saw the Dark Knight trailer, I thought it WAS Mel Gibson at first.

I you look whenever their lips would need to move to make the sounds...you can't see their faces. only durning the humming when riggs is pushing his target back.
I love Danny Glover's suit. He looks like everybody's dad!
Lethal weapon is legendary action movie
Mel Gibson is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY brilliant as the cop Martin Riggs
The best of the series
Danny Glover is demonstrating his ability to quickly draw his weapon and get off a bullseye shot. Compared to setting up your shot “HOLLYWOOD STYLE”…
I had a dream about Lethal Weapon last night and it reminded me how special the team of Riggs and Murtaugh are thanks to Mel and Danny.
I like it when he looks back. Funny.
I love this scene, and I am a life-long competitive marksman. To that point, I agree that there are centerfire pistols and shooters that *could* shoot a shaped group like that ... but there is no way that ol’ “Flinchy McFierson” with a stock 92F is going to get the pinpoint precision needed to do that at 7 yards, let alone 25. I always wished that the director had filmed from behind the actors during the shooting sequences, to keep the suspension of disbelief alive ...
All that said: I still love the final few seconds of running the target back, and the “Have a nice day ...” quip. Classic.
Excellent comment Mr. Rowling . He does control the muzzle flip rather well . Hollywood entertainment , just need buttered popcorn ...
I bought a used M9 (92FS) at a police auction a few years ago. Been my EDC since. Yes, I have much more modern handguns, but this has a special place with me because I was in the USN when the switch over from the .45 ACP happened, and I qualified with it. I tried this exact shoot at my range. My range is only 50 feet long, so I could not get it back like they do in this film. But even at 50 feet I could not get it right. It looked like a face, but a deformed one. lol And I didn't blink once during the trigger pull! I can do it with my .357 Magnum with a 4" barrel and using 38 Special wad cutters. I can make a perfect face (@ 50 feet)
i am not sure, but think that in the german version, in spite of "Have a nice day" Gibson says "And now he smiles". IMO that s even better!
