To everybody trashing on him by saying that the original is always going to be better, give him a break, alright? He's not trying to be better than anybody. He just sings covers only because he jump simply enjoys it.
The Phil Collins original is one of my top-3 fave songs of all time, and I have been collecting covers of this tune for years, this is one I am proud to add to the collection. Thanx for sharing.
I saw the show with 3 Doors Down tonight in Kansas City MO. They were amazing and this song was a major highlight in the show . I just had to come here to hear it again
Phil Collins has been a favorite of mine (Even when I was a little kid... LOVED the Tarzan songs lol) but this... Daughtry is... He's amazing. ... I still love the Tarzan songs :) And I love Chris Daughtry and his angel kissed voice
Saw him live with 3 doors down, and they did this song together it was awesome. The lead singer of 3 Door Down (Brad Arnold) is great live; I was surprised he was that good because I had heard mixed reviews. But the version of "In the Air Tonight" was definitely the highlight of the night.
I remember after leaving the show, the 1st thing I did was hit the internet to see if I could find this song to hear it again. I would say my second favorite song of the night was "It's Not My Time", 3 Doors Down really brought it that night.
I'm just surprised it took me three years to find out that Daughtry was covering this song. Not quite as good as the version I just heard with Brad Arnold, but gives me chills just the same. Nothing will ever top the live Phil versions, though, especially the earlier ones.. Daryl on the guitar and Phil on the drums just take it to another level.
I love Daughtry - and this is one of my all time favorite songs since I first watched it on the TV in Miami Vice :) This is without a doubt the best cover of this song ever! But it's not close to besting the original - not even close.
Since I was 12-13 years old my mom played that song in her car for days every time she does it is could possibly reach her phone from my black seat belt
wOw ~ love Phil ~ yet you do a great job on this song...:-)))........original meaning behind this song is sad yet interesting ~ as I recall ~ Phil Collins had a friend who deeply hurt him. So much so, that Phil said "If you were drowning, I would not lend you a hand"...
@JukeBoxHero991 Collins comments on the urban legends in a BBC interview: “ I don't know what this song is about. When I was writing this I was going through a divorce. And the only thing I can say about it is that it's obviously in anger. It's the angry side, or the bitter side of a separation. What makes it even more comical is when I hear these stories which started years ago, particularly in America, someone comes up to me asking 'Did you really see someone drowning?' I say, 'No, wrong'.
@ Jan8500 ~ thanx :-) The interview I saw of Phil's never mentioned anyone drowning...and not even a divorce ~ yet a friend / family member who had betrayed him. Shootz ~ that was a while back...Oh well ~ I just love the song
This is a good version, I will admit. A bit different.. but I agree that you would have had to see Phil, drums and all, doing this live to really understand. It sends goosebumps down your spine!
Sorry for post to an old record... But I still can't find the record in good quality (mb some studio, non concert) If you have it, let me know... Concert version sounds not absolutely striking at home, or in car
@DreamersNBelievers Phil Collins Version: Epic. Not one person can do better. Non-Point's Version: Still good, I like it a lot. Chris Daughtry's Version: I love him... And everything he has. Amazing cover. However, both Daughtry and Non-Point did a amazing job... I wouldn't really say one is better than the other.
I'm a big fan of both Phil Collins and Daughtry. This is a really good version of the song. BUT I don't really think this song has that 'chills down my spine'-quality that Phil Collins' has. Still a great effort, but this time I have to say that the original wins. I think it's the first of his covers that he doesn't really match up to.
Passable, but not better. Phil's voice may not be quite as pretty, but his intensity and conviction on the original make this version pale in comparison. If you've ever heard Phil perform this live, particularly in the 80s or early 90s, you'd know how much more intense this song is supposed to sound.
Not as good as Phil Collins, lacks the emotion. Dont get me wrong, it has emotion. But not the emotion that Phil Collins breathed into this song. And I think Nonpoint did it better as well.
To everybody trashing on him by saying that the original is always going to be better, give him a break, alright? He's not trying to be better than anybody. He just sings covers only because he jump simply enjoys it.
We need an official release of this cover now!!
The Phil Collins original is one of my top-3 fave songs of all time, and I have been collecting covers of this tune for years, this is one I am proud to add to the collection. Thanx for sharing.

Phil Collins has been a favorite of mine (Even when I was a little kid... LOVED the Tarzan songs lol) but this... Daughtry is... He's amazing.
... I still love the Tarzan songs :)
And I love Chris Daughtry and his angel kissed voice
Totally agree. Saw him in Reno two years ago. Simply AMAZING!!!!!!!
Saw him live with 3 doors down, and they did this song together it was awesome. The lead singer of 3 Door Down (Brad Arnold) is great live; I was surprised he was that good because I had heard mixed reviews. But the version of "In the Air Tonight" was definitely the highlight of the night.

I love Daughtry, but Phil is the greatest. No one can do Phil better than Phil!
Chris is one of a kind ~ best "new" voice since Steve Perry :-)))
I'm just surprised it took me three years to find out that Daughtry was covering this song. Not quite as good as the version I just heard with Brad Arnold, but gives me chills just the same.
Nothing will ever top the live Phil versions, though, especially the earlier ones.. Daryl on the guitar and Phil on the drums just take it to another level.

Yeppers...! You guys who caught this live are soooooo LUCKY :-)))

Chris can do it....! Love my NC boy :-)))
Damn heartfelt, unlike the rest of today's 'pop-rock' Top 40 bullshit 'artists'...
Still, holds a very weak to no candle next to Sir Collins...

agreed :)
After listening to this, i had to IMMEDIATELY go and listen to the original version by Phil Collins. Collins: 10
Daughtry: 4 XP
Sorry for post to an old record... But I still can't find the record in good quality (mb some studio, non concert)
If you have it, let me know... Concert version sounds not absolutely striking at home, or in car
Still Phil all the way.
Just not the same without the drumming!
Is sound like steve cash voice the talking Kitty cat
Is it just me or is the picture of the band moving in the back round
@Dare272 ...Unless there's only one version lol.
@DreamersNBelievers Phil Collins Version: Epic. Not one person can do better.
Non-Point's Version: Still good, I like it a lot.

Bad wolves version is beast
@wibbelern i don't thik so...but "de gustibus non est disputandum"
@wibbelern no one can do phils song better than phil
@slurrrrpnsnap
Yeah..almost like he did on American Idol....lol
that 1 like is Phil Collins cause this version is better than his
Wonder if Chris knows the true meaning behind this song? I'm sure he does, or he would have never recorded it....
Robert Wu zeff

Uh dude? That is still not how to spell it. And "but just" what?
Daughtry...just no...just no...

If you've ever heard Phil perform this live, particularly in the 80s or early 90s, you'd know how much more intense this song is supposed to sound.
Sorry I like Daughtry, but clearly this is not a song for him
Not as good as Phil Collins, lacks the emotion. Dont get me wrong, it has emotion. But not the emotion that Phil Collins breathed into this song. And I think Nonpoint did it better as well.
Travis White agreed
Jesus Christ hallajajah Catholic Church pope Francis
Hhabuc3
the drum solo isn't as epic in this version
3doors down was better than dautrey but just
Phil Collins does this WAY better :P
nope. phil colins is still the best.
Nonpoint did better but still better than exilia.
WOW! That sucked!
@wibbelern Hell NO! Phil Collins was and always will be better, hell Non-Point did a better cover
