Ummm, I clicked on this video to see your long exposure, which i got. But.. to my surprise, you did one of THE best walk throughs of how you compose this kind of a shot. Let me tell you, that is not easy to do in a way that teaches a useable technique, but you did it.
I find the techical aspects of photography (like long exposures) to be fairly easy. But what eludes me, what is the hardest to learn for me, is composition.
I've watched hours and hours of composition this and thats. And i learned more about composition and tricks from a small section of your long exposure video, than i have in the others combined!
Makes me wonder what other gems exist buried in your videos like this.
I really like your style. Similar education and career backgrounds, and how we both stride to have efficient processes that become muscle memory freeing us for other more important tasks (like composition) is likely the reason.
But I'm really thankful for the time you've taken to not only film all this, but to methodically break things down and share the knowledge to help us gain skills and build our own repeatable process that leads to taking better photographs.
    Thank you so much.
    Have a greay day!

    • @DaveMorrow
      @DaveMorrow  Před 6 lety

Thanks Shane. I don't' agreed with your "blessed" comment. You're selling yourself short with that mindset! If it's worth it to you, you can change your life. I live the way I do because I have a complete plan for where I want to go, 1-5-10 years, broken down into the smallest possible steps. I get up and work at those steps everyday. I trust myself and my gut, even when I fail and keep working at that plan year after year, everyday. You're just seeing the 10 minutes of those 10,000 hours of work that went into building the lifestyle you see. Luck plays a roll in all success, constant hard work plays a much bigger one. You never get lucky if you're not up early, constantly driving towards your goal, living those small steps that get you there, everyday. Design the life you want. Get up and work at it everyday. Don't listen to people that say you can't do it. In 10 years you'll have a life that you completely control, your "dream". Those 5-10 years of work, where you have no large success & get beat down everyday, is the entry point to living how you want, that most people give up during and fail to cross. The question is, how bad do you want it?

I have some great shots but feel they just lack something and on watching your video these shots came to mind and i now realise what i should have been doing. Tuesday night is now a must see night, as you are like the photographer's sen-sei. So much to learn but learning so much from following your videos each week. Went out last week along my local river for the purpose of trying to nail the sharp image using back button focus. Guess I will be back out trying out the techniques youve shared in this week's video. Do you find you need to make manual focus adjustments a lot after using the the back focus technique or is it certain conditions require it more than others. As always Dave....great learning from you

I enjoy your composition techniques Dave, straight forward, relatively easy to understand as you visually show and explain it with care...
The (STR) technique using the histogram, but avoiding the "blinkies" is of tremendous value knowing in advance what you will be doing in post processing to bring the highlights back down and the beauty of this technique is the shadow areas are better illuminated before going into post.
I have only managed to catch your most recent videos and my thinking is you don't use much in the way of CPL's, graduated filters, super stoppers, etc?
Thanks much for sharing your experiences on the trail with & without the camera...

Where in Washington was this shot? The forests and rivers of the Pacific Northwest are amazing.

Another great video. Will you make, or have you made a video on why you shoot in Aperture priority a lot, rather than Manual?

Always so informative. My question is. When shooting with your Tripod in flowing water how do you stabilise it? I always seem to get some movement even when the water is calm?

Have a question about your D-810, was wanting to know about the base ISO you seem to use of 100 and curious why not 64? Your videos are fantastic.

Dave: I really enjoy your journals!! Your explanations are very detailed even tho I am an advanced amateur. Always fun to see how someone else does it!! One BIG question.. Are you selling these shows or how do you make a living giving away "Free" videos? I'm not complaining in the least, but was just curious! Keep up the great work!!
