- The LEGO Ideas 21334 Jazz Quartet is the latest offer from the theme with many good things about it, specially the price per piece ratio AKA, a very good LEGO deal!

Imagine if Lego did sets like this but themed from different decades like a 70s,80s and 90s rock band sets? Awesome!
They're partly doing that with some of their Icon series sets by featuring well known things from different eras, such as Optimus Prime, Lion Knight's Castle, The Volkswagen camper, the Adidas Superstar shoe, and the various sports stadiums.
I could imagine other bands in this style though. Teen Boyband, Barbershop Quartet, Hair Metal, Rap Battle, Jug Band, etc.
run dmc aersosmith collab would be sick
Imagine a Ramones Lego set.... They had such an iconic look...
It might happen. This set was one of the better hits with adults. The whole line of adult sets took off a lot better than Lego expected
I'd love to see them do a set in this style based on the Beatles' American debut on The Ed Sullivan Show!! One of the most iconic performances in music history for sure.
As a musician I love this set! This and the Fender Guitar set get me excited for the future of Lego ideas!
Looks sick! As a jazz drummer I approve
The drummers the best part aswell
@@thekranberry2516 When I do get this kit I'll probably remove one of the toms to make it more like mine 🙂
@@Fl_Broccodile I think the drum set is an amazing build, I’m more into marching drumming but it’s so cool!
@@masterchief8980 I play tenors!
Yea i like the drum set too. Ill be taking that belly off tho.
Drums all day
In love with the aesthetic of this set, a classic look which is instantly recognisable, one flaw of this set is how the slight differences compared to the ideas submission are kind of a down grade. Overall though solid build and I do agree with your points! Good review again :)
Yes. I like the original esthetics better. I was really excited about it but not sure if I’m going to get this version. ☹️
Only thing I would change compared to the original design is the floor color, the original best suited the vibe. And as you mentioned, the piano top should be flat
Piano top shouldn’t be flat!
I love that a few carefully designed pieces of plastic can have such personality- great set, tho I do prefer the darker 'wood' floor of the original submission, might have enough bits around to change this one to the darker floor ...thanks for the great info!!
I think it's awesome that lego is doing sets with the mini land scale!
Really like the shapes and techniques used here on this set! I'm just really happy that this set was made! Really like the simple faces, and poses, especially the guy playing the trumpet! The figures and the instruments are built well and the price to piece ratio is amazing!
Excellent review of a great looking set 🎺 Definitely on my purchase list!
Hi
You should buy the Wilhelm german
I’m a HUGE jazz fan. And a HUGE lego fan. Such a gorgeous intersection. So excited to get this one!
I really like the way they're aiming at people making legos with others, I might be able to convince someone to join me in my obsessive hobby.
I really don't like the grey neck pieces, would've been pretty cool if they made flesh color joints.
I like the female pianist, it feels like a nod to jazz great Nina Simone! I think the original design with the man in the tuxedo looked a bit stuffy, I like that there's a pop of colour in the set now
Agreed!
@@TiagoCatarino hi
A pop of color? Now they are all black
Had to get rid of the only white guy, which was Bill Evans to me. They could have added the fat black woman as a singer if the agenda so mandates.
Yes, and IMO it is nice to have both genders represented. It really makes me think of the great female jazz singers.
The “more can build at the same time” is something that has been missing in lego. Make it into a thing for the family or the couple to do together. It is a wonderful set, but since lego is really putting a lot of great sets out these days, it is a pass for me. The price is high and raising for lego (also waaay more than they can defend, and to a degree where it will hurt them in the long run) But a wonderful set,
Just finished building this and I was blown away. Such good techniques, such dynamic poses of all the figures, and outrageously good builds for the musical instruments. Best set I've built in ages
This set looks surprisingly good! It wasn't on my wanted list, but seems like it just got there.
Interesting build, and interesting set to part out afterwards.
Bought this set a couple months ago with an added light kit and couldn't have been happier! Such a fun and creative build.
I wish I could love this set as much as you did. The original submission was great, and I would have certainly bought it. Not so sure about this one though. While I do get that some changes were necessary, they simply changed too much. Trumpet guy looks like he's in some kind of parade, and the way he holds his tiny instrument looks rather awkward. Piano lady is just casually playing the piano with one hand, you'd almost expect her to hold a cell phone in the other to check on her social media. Now compare that with the original ones with those much more stylized designs: all four are really into it, really feeling the music. That to me was the essence of the set, and that's mostly lost now. Still not a bad set, but it could have been so much better.
Thank you for this review! I might have to get this set! Though I have to say, the proper English pronunciation for the word "bass" (musical term) sounds like "base". If you say it phonetically, it might confuse people into thinking you're talking about the fish, also spelled "bass". English is confusing, I know. But I hope this helps.
A great set in itself. Seems like the vibe of the original set had to be changed, possible due to necessary reinforcements of characters. This made the players lot more durable, but the sleek silhouettes of the players had to be traded off.
The angular design choice of the original stage seemed quite consistent to the originally VERY THIN yet angular character, design. The current corner rounded stage and rounder, thicker characters express a somewhat more casual mood than the more seemingly formal build. The pianist design was notably changed from a more dynamic pose to a more right-angled pose.
All in all, the original and the final set aims for different mood of a jazz band. One more sleeker and professional, the other one more eased up and brighter. Not to say one is better or worse than the other. They are aiming at different directions, respectively.
I'm rarely of the mind of "I Gotta have it!" but in this case, I'm buying this just as soon as I can! I'm a bass player who was in Jazz band back in high school, so this is right up my alley!
My only complaint about this set is that they didn't change the colors of the ball joint pieces, so the necks and part of the head of the figures are just grey. Still a great set though, would definetly buy it if it wasnt so expensive where i live
Can Lego not make those niche pieces in another color besides grey? I agree I think it does look a bit weird
@@greenmt1100 as I understand it it's a budget thing - in the design process a budget is set, and introducing new colours for existing parts adds cost, as does prints and *especially* new parts. It may be that a recolour was sacrificed to increase parts count, for example...
It almost feels like a myth as established as the ancient civilizations of a hollow earth, but it has supposedly been shared on Reddit by a LEGO designer that the ball joint pieces (currently cast in polycarbonate plastic) are some of the most difficult and precise in their tolerances. And with different strengths and shrinkage rates between different colors of ABS plastic it is said that the budget and R&D have never been appropriated to deliver these elements reliably in other colors. Either way, whatever is the real truth, I agree how visually annoying these ‘color locked’ elements can be!
Day one buy for me. The Lego drum sets that I’ve built so far are found in Assembly Square and with Animal from current Muppets CMF series, and I loved both. To have a complete, 5 piece kit, like the one in this set☝🏼is just awesome! The other instruments look equally great!
Wasn't too sure about this one, but the building techniques/details/even articulation are fantastic, and it's a really good price per piece at 1600+ pieces. Really love the instrument builds and surprising accuracy put into each one for it's smaller scale. Thanks for the well edited/on point review.
Glad you liked it! More to come
i love how the bass looks, i am definitely gonna get this set
I love this set I wanna get it so bad, as a drummer, more into marching drumming but non the less the drum set is the best Lego build I’ve ever seen!!!!!🥁
Yes! I was waiting for this. I want this for a birthday and it’s perfect! I love music and LEGO. I think I would remove the drummer and start jamming with the little sticks lol.
Absolutely brilliant set, thanks for reviewing it Tiago! (jazz fan from Netherlands, but I also have the big figures from the 70s)
Excellent review of this set. I wasn't going to give this set much attention because it wasn't something I am planning to get, but now I appreciate the set more given the details you have pointed out!
Tiago, my friend. When referring to the instrument "bass", it is pronounced like "base" with a long 'a' sound. Love your review and I love you!
I was so hyped for the original design! Like the miles Davis quartet, then they made it look like a soul band :(
I love your accent it’s not completely perfect English but it’s still enjoyable to listen to
Honestly, I was not that interested in this set, but this review has absolutely made me want it. What a fantastic set with all those amazing details and techniques!
This set is absolutely stunning! Definitely a must buy for me at only $100.
As a string bass player I absolutey love the bass player!
The double bass looks like a similar (smaller) build to the Fender Strat. The set looks amazing - I can't say I'd ever have expected to see Lego release a set like this.
I love the piano player SO MUCH! Big piano mama! Love it.
These Lego techniques are amazing, though little stuff like the pianists hand now being able to be put on the piano itself is so minor a regular person wont notice ,it is so amazing to see big detail like the little legs on the drumkit or the mouth on the trumpet user to be put in use ,so creative!!
Masterpiece! Can't wait to get it. Great review! I was skeptical but this just changed my mind.
Can't wait for someone to make a moc where Neman is sitting at the drum kit and Fletcher is tossing a chair at him.
lmao would love to see that
Thank you for another great review. I'm getting and building this one for my husband who is a jazz fan. I'm glad it's as good to build as it is to look at.
LEGO is getting better, and sets are more detailed and they look amazing! I hope LEGO continues this
I don't think they're stopping anytime soon!
Got this for Christmas. Did it all myself amazing set 😊
I wasn’t sure about this set until I just watched this review. No I’m about to go out and buy it. Thank you 😊
Amazing set and a great review. For this price, it's a no brainer for me...
I’m big fun of Minifigures and that would be forever .But this set is so beautiful that I can’t wait to buy it .So amazing beautiful.Real art
Great set and review. I just wish the necks were the same colour as the person rather than being grey. Even if they had to make a new colour.
It would be great if they have a mechanical lever that makes them move or plug in a motor and watch them jam all on their own.
Bass and trumpet player are both connected strongly to the bass… 😂😂😂 nice unintentionally pun, Tiago!
Love this set but with the increasing prices of Lego and so many sets coming out at the same time in August, this will be put on the back burner and eventually I'll never get around to buying it like so many other sets.
Helllo Tiago You are a great great lego builder becouse you teach me to bulid a lego wish your channel got 50M subscribers
I have been waiting for this for so long!! I also would love to seepre characters this scale.
released in north america just in time for the toronto jazz festival. looks great!
By far my favorite Lego set I have built
Awesome to hear you play the organ! Makes sense why you were asked to help on the haunted mansion set.
Someone definitely should make a giant Lego Minecraft frog nothing else but a Lego Minecraft frog with a tongue that can actually roll out moving legs limbs open mouth will be the one thing everybody will love
My dad has a band and will love this
I knew about this about a month early cuz some guy on reddit found it in a store before it was even announced
I'm getting this for Christmas this year🤭can't wait😍
Very nice set. Oldschool lego style, when using basic pieces, with modern detalization.
It’s a fantastic looking set. I was immediately thinking about buying this for a friend, but then the price. I’ve not bought Lego for myself in a very long time and now watching some of these videos it’s crazy to me that it costs as much as it does and that this is labelled a great deal. The profit margins for lego sets must be through the roof!
Remember a lot of the entertainment value is in the build itself. You get a few hours out of this.
I like to think of it as paying to go out for the day or something, you’d normally spend a decent amount of money on an activity like going for a meal or something so I consider it in terms of build time as well as the decoration value.
The bass player in the front was really funny. 😂
This set is literally just like a high detailed moc that someone made, but instead lego really made it. This is so detailed and I'm quite surprised lego did a smooth snot build, and the other techniques and details are just perfect. Great review btw!
Thank you so much 😃
I'm really sad about some changes they made to this, especially the shape and pose of the trumpet player's legs. The original was much better in that regard
Now this is my culture BENW ✊🏿
Very excited for this set, it's gonna be great to build with the SO
It looks amazing!
I would normally get it, but with the recent announcements (Modular Sanctum Sanctorum, Lion Knight's Castle), I'll pass on this one for now.
I need to draw the line somewhere! 😅
Perfect review as always Tiago! After it was revealed most afols seemed to dislike the changes made by lego designers but after watching your review i think there is not much to complain!
I think the build is fantastic. Afols always complain about ideas sets 😅 I’ve experienced it first hand with the ship in a bottle
@@TiagoCatarino Yes, but, then is like LEGO does not care about AFOLs??? ... There ate TONS of sets for kids, and TONS of sets to play with ... This SET should be for display only, and therefore the LOOK as a Deluxe Work Art for Display should be a priority ( IMHO ) ... and, as I said previously, even though, I will buy this one ;(
I'm sure it's still a great set but they kind of killed the vibe the original fan model had. If anybody comes across a decent jazz club with a floor as light as this one please let me know...
It's the little things, in the fan model the trumpet player is actually playing his instrument, I don't know why they changed that. The woman playing the piano on the other hand is a great improvement, though I'm not a fan of the dress color, again too colorful for a "cool" set and it's just too much contrast compared to the other outfits. Not saying jazz musicians don't like to dress crazy, just not in this classic quartet formation where every instrument is almost equal. This way she looks more like the soloist with her band.
It bothered me that the video's background music is of a big swing band with a saxophone, while the LEGO set is of a jazz quartet without a saxophone.
now the only way this could be better is if they included a tenor sax, for the trumpeter to swap out with
I kind of wish they included an alto sax. If I get this set, I will remove the trumpet for one, since I played the sax for a few years and it's my favorite instrument.
me too
For future reference, "bass" is pronounced differently depending on whether it refers to the fish or the instrument. The instrument is pronounced like "base." You've been using the fish pronunciation.
I've watched so many of your videos Tiago. I am surprised you didn't mention anything about the 31 1x1 handle brick yellow pieces that make the hammers in the piano. I for sure thought you'd bring it up as repetition bothers you. I do agree it is an awesome set. Love your videos.
Expectations... exceeded!
But I was never a Jazz fan. I think a Heavy Metal/Rock/Punk version would be more popular... with some options to make the band members "resemble" real bands like Kiss, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Metallica, Nirvana, etc... People would probably get multiple set to make each of their favourite bands!
I'd buy that!
I’ve just built this set
As a musician myself there’s a lot of things I like about it
But I also have some critique
Specifically about the drum kit
Which is also the instrument I play so I feel it’s valid
The drum kit looks too rock pop like
Especially and jazz it’s very common to only have two toms
It also seems a bit weird to attach the crash symbol directly on the bass drum between the two toms
Normally you would have a separate stand for that right between the high hat and the bass drum if you have one at all
A lot of jazz drummers simply just have a ride symbol and no crash symbols at all
The bass drum itself is Also too big
It’s very common to have big bass drums and more modern drum kits especially non-jess players use them
But Jazz kids usually have a smaller bass drum usually 18 inches
It could also have used a drum rug
I can tell you from personal experience that this drummer is going to be tearing his own head off trying to correct the position of his bass drum and hi hats because they’re going to slide away from him if he doesn’t have a rug to put underneath
Thanks for the review however I think a lego ideas review should always feature a comparison with the original fan submitted model as that is what the fan vote was based on. And in this case I personally liked the original submission better.
Must buy for me, I hope Lego does the same with rock or blues music.
I doubt it. But then again they've made too many sitcom sets so there's hope!
These are a great set especially for $100, if they sold each player with the instrument separately, they probably would price it at $30-$40.
As much as i love this set, it wasn't the competition winner. Daft punk won first place and Lego should've really tried for the IP instead of settling for an unliscenced IP in third place.
I agree as display set it's great.
Hit that 🐟! Jokes aside, I love this set, can’t wait ❤️
It'd be cool to see someone animate these guys with power functions
I love this set! This will be a day one purchase for sure.
Been waiting for this - so gonna get it!
Please review the UCS IMPERIAL STAR DESTROYER, AT AT, GUNSHIP and compare the all four UCS Giant 🔥🔥🔥
Finally a great looking set with a great price. So many sets lately have been over priced.
They should continue with this line and create famous bands like Queen, the Beatles and lots more! I see potential
I would love to see a Beatles set in this style with the band in the style of when they were on the Ed Sullivan show
Helpful. Thanks!
Lego is really Jazzing with these new sets!
I see what you did there
I’m in love with set, can’t wait to get it
This feels like something that would be displayed at a Legoland park or in a mini world
A great review! The instrument “bass” is pronounced like “base” tho :)
Tiago is Portguese tho bruv. Bass guitar is baixo, so it's more closely pronounced bass than base.
I can totally see the appeal for musicians to this set! Looks amazing and so well done
Also, will you have reviews for the new 90 year sets? That’s if Lego did send you it🫠
Thank you for the review. I’m going to get it just for the instruments.
The thumbnail looks like tiago is about to attack
I wish I could see your awesome lego collection one day keep it up Tiago!!!👍🥰
I'll do a studio tour one of this days!
Now all we need is a rock/metal thing eith some matelica and sabaton easter egg
Man I really want to modify that drummer into Ringo Starr.
