Adventures with Frodo. Brother, I know all about the digital scales AND the analog scales on the market for the shop/house/laboratory, as well as for weighing fish. I have 2 sets of digital fish weighing scales right now, with the better of the two being the Gambler digital scales. But I also have a set of old-school analog scales made by Rapala, that I've owned since 2001. It works as good as the day I bought it 17 years ago. NOTHING can beat the durability and spot on accuracy for the work bench or laboratory as good old fashioned triple beam scales. Sad that hardly anyone uses them anymore. Sure, they take up space in the shop, but triple beam scales will absolutely last FOREVER, unless ya damage them somehow, and that would take an awful lot to hurt them. Ya just can't say that about ANY digital scales, for the work bench OR for weighing fish. Just like NOTHING beats the analog fish weighing scales made by Boga Grip. Boga Grip analog scales are the #1 recommended scales for weighing fish by the IGFA. ( International Game Fish Association ) The only downside to analog scales ( for fishing anyway ) is the fact ya can't see the tiny numbers and lines on a camera. That's why I LOVE my digital Gambler fish weighing scales. But will they LAST AS LONG as my analog fish scales by Rapala? I highly doubt it. I keep my Rapala analog scales in my boat at all times, just in case my digital Gambler scales ever go bad. I paid like $54 for the Gambler scales & I really like em so far, and they aren't cheap. Sure, the higher priced digital scales are better than most cheaper ones........anyone should know that. But electronics can and do go bad from age, HUMIDITY, dust, dropping them, etc. Even factory defects. But in MY experience with digital scales for weighing fish, MOST of them, even the higher priced ones, wind up failing before too long. Just look at all the negative reviews of all sorts of digital scales for weighing fish, including expensive ones. My Gambler scales have lasted longer than any other digital fishing scales I've owned so far. Plus you can cull fish automatically with em. But again, nothing beats an analog culling beam for money tournaments. I've owned several higher priced digital scales in the past myself.......that ALL went bad in a fairly short amount of time. They just can't take the heat, moisture & humidity. So far, so good with my Gambler scales though. I actually test my Rapala and Gambler scales against each other frequently........and they both work well and are accurate. I know because I also test them both on known weights such as 5 lb bags of sugar, 10 lb dum-bell weights, my 12 lb anchor, etc, etc.
