@Glyn Great job demonstrating a complete unwillingness to look at an argument objectively. The woman who was raped would have subconscious reactions to random folks that could be racist. If she makes an effort to be objective and avoid saddling an individual with an entire group's issues then there would be no issue. Every single person on this planet has these subconscious reactions (bias) to the "other", it's how you deal with that reaction that matters.
I would encourage you to do a bit more reading concerning charter schools as 1 in 6 are better than the average public school education in the US. The irony of you criticizing Destiny for mixing "emotions and politics" while having no rational justifications for your own beliefs is pretty incredible and demonstrates a general lack of self awareness. If you actually care about having a well-rounded understanding of these discussions, it might help to make at least a half-assed attempt to steelman a person's arguments.

Very few people rape, attaching such a crime to a race is illogical

Let's not forget, Destiny was asked a simple, straightforward question "how many racists have you ACTUALLY met?" which he avoided with a bullshit "I don't go outside much" line... And no, not someone that "identifies" racist... But someone who actually acts upon, is visible, or is causing actual problems for colored people due to their racism...... I'm 31 and I've met like... 2...? I've been to almost all 50 states. Yes, racism DOES still exist. It exists in .0000001% of America. It exists in both parties. It exists in white, black, yellow, purple & green people...... And there's also that many murderers, rapists, criminals, drug dealers, mob bosses, etc. Society isn't perfect & it NEVER will be. What are you actually fighting for? To abolish all the .00000001% of people? And you don't think MUCH MORE damage is done by attempting to make people believe racism is SO widespread its SO real its SO bad its SO killing people. Let's kill all the remaining KKK (democratic party, btw) & all remaining racists. I'll be right there with you. So would Republicans. So would Mr. Reagan. Folks, don't let mainstream news feed you a false narrative.... It is being exploded..... NO there's no concentration camps, NO Trump isn't "killing babies & tearing apart families" at the border (he's literally following the current LAW.. (like it or not), NO racism isn't this prominent. NO, half of the entire country isn't racist, NO the world will NOT end in 12 years lmfaooooo. Dems have tried this scare tactic & fear mongering TOO many times for you all to be fooled. Y2K? If you don't make it into the very top percentage in your classes, the mental abuse you'd have to bear from parents, neighbors, relatives and teachers can be shockingly awful. When the right wing is in government, they defund public education and make sure public subsidies are given for parents to put their kids in private schools, even if there's a good public school in the same area. What happened was that the private schools were statistically worse quality, and the politicians, once they left the government, took up management positions in these schools. It turned into a way to funnel public tax money into their own pockets. This Mr. Reagan guy lives in a fantasy world, none of the things he says are obvious actually work in reality. Can't tell if Destiny says this to mess with people or if he actually believes it. But it's pretty obvious that if you only ever talk about class inequality when dodging accusations of racism then you don't actually care about class inequality. It's like when anti-SJWs say stuff like "oh you feminists claim to care about women, but why don't you ever call out the misogyny of Islam?" It's clear they don't care about women, they're just using them as a tool to attack Muslims. This guy is doing the same thing. Even though there are legitimate marxists which are class-reductionists aka it is only about class and racism is just a distraction from the real issue. It is difficult even through the theory of marx to be entirely racist since even as racist Marx was like most ppl of his time, even he pointed out the capitalist exploitation of other races and countries in his book. Something future marxists have expanded upon since.
So while it is not impossible to be a racist marxist the development o marxist writings and ideology has made it quite difficult.
But you are also right in the scapegoat argument. It is also another version of whataboutism where they try to make the other party defend the views of others to runaway from defending their own.

Either A: read about what consensus is amongst researchers. Or B: Read a bunch of meta-analyses. Newer is usually better. And even when you do take these precautions, know that the replication crisis in social sciences reaffirmed how wrong they can be as well when the scientific literature itself is impacted by publication bias. There’s a lot of methodological problems with the way particularly psychology and sociology have been conducted.

@Stephen Weir His train of thought was that due to affirmative action the meritocratic guarantee of a Doctor's degree could be tainted, there is a supposed logic there, just faulty logic.
Now, one can argue whether or not that conclusion is of racist nature or merely an unreasonable jump in logic; or perhaps a little bit of both.
According to the way he described racism he wouldn't classify that as extreme enough to be racism, yet he'd claim the cause to be the human condition. A bit like Hanlon's razor perhaps.
Hence he wouldn't see racists where some others might do.
Racism as a term has become a bit diluted in recent years and many people hold differing definitions on what it actually entails, which unfortunately does not help with the discourse.

    • @0HollowTubes0
      @0HollowTubes0 Před 5 lety

@Stephen Weir I posted my comment as to provide insight as to why so called right-wingers seem to lack self-reflection.
I'm not going to have a conversation on the semantics and abstractions of the word racism in a comment section.
Hence, I'll leave it with this:
They might react so strongly against being called racist, because whatever they did to warrant that accusation doesn't register as racism in their frame of mind.
If you take different serveries of racist behaviour and layed them out in order, the barrier for what constitutes racism for right-wingers would be much higher, possible unseasonably so.
If for example you say that racism only occurs when actual proof able harm is done, you might be surprised that saying the n-word out loud to no-one would be considered racist. Assuming you'd see that as no harm being done.
I think it helps when you try to think what the train of logic is for someone to act in a certain way.

Mr. Reagan's position on racism is unironically and almost LITERALLY what Joyner Lucas's case and point was in the song "I'm not Racist", a year ago. The idea that you might have all these hidden preconceived racial biases/prejudices that might come out in other cryptic ways, like in interviews, jobs, etc is racism by definition... but like the song, "But I'm not racist though". There's a deeper underlying racism that's masked by every day people, because society this day in age lives in a social media generation where everyone's more aware and keen about being openly racist, Destiny is able to call it out for what it is by definition but Mr. Reagan gives these people a free pass/excuse for any reason to justify its okay they hold these prejudices... because "region, culture, insert excuse".

I want to judge this guy using Hanlon's razor, as in it sounds like he's incompetent/misinformed about a lot of these macro concepts.
Throughout the "debate" he agrees with Destiny quite often, and sounds rather socialist or left leaning at some points even.
I don't think he has malice in his heart when he brings up his points against immigration for example.
If anything, maybe he has too much compassion for people that hold factually incorrect viewpoints.
Sometimes he perhaps could have had a valid point but due to his lack of understanding goes off on unfounded conclusions.
so yh, I dunno, if anything I won't hate this guy, he sounds like he is somewhat reasonable and if better informed might see the faults in some of his points.

That does not remove the fact that, regarding voter ID laws, african americans are the particular group of people affected far more than anything else. The outcome ofc favors the republican party and their candidates in the affected areas. Racism for the sake of political power. Solving the issue would obviously not only make it easier for those poor african americans but also other affected groups.
The difference in generalization is that one serves the purpose and consequence of demonizing and the other serves the purpose and consequence of finding solutions.
Not to mention there is a clear difference in the nature of explanations. For example, one dude in the comment section said it is ok for companies to automatically not hire black people because they just more stupid. This despite the factor of an individual's qualifications, making it obviously racist and not economically sound. The race realist reasoning asside, a person would then be judged for their color and not the content of their character. Ultimately serving a racist and (if it appeals to you more) economically stupid reasoning. Pointing out for example how a majority of predominantly african american schools are horrible and often result on lesser education and more health issues because of mold. Now that is framed to appeal to action to a generalized issue that can be fixed by governnent support. Ultimately making it easier for all students that go to that school, not only african americans.
Many issues are not exclusive to african americans, like deteriorating health and cancer in Lousiana because of petrochemicals. But because it affects predominantly african americans ofc they are gonna feel singled out and targeted. In fact, in Lousiana despite the movement against the petrochemical industry primarily affecting african americans. A fact that local groups use to argue against the industry while also having white people join because they are affected too.

"racism is making a single person a representative of a group of people who look similar."
That's how I would define racism

Wtf is wrong with this dude?? “I’m not gonna hire Shaniqua because her name is low class.” Wtf should their name matter?? I thought getting a job was based on qualifications.

@J P And the solution was to not hire that person instead of giving them a nickname?

Love how this guy make so many justifications for racism then says he's never met a racist.
Thing is, racism to me a gradient or spectrum. Most likely he's met tons of racists but since he doesn't consider himself one, he has to meet someone more racist than him.

This guy's *entire* world view is based off of "I talked to some people so X is true" and "I feel like Y is true". He didn't provide a single source in this entire 3 hour conversation. Any time Destiny provided data to back up his claims, he responded with "well I've seen data that contradicts that....(I'm not going to provide that data or go into anymore detail on it but it exists and you're wrong, actually)".

How can he say he's met zero racists when he admitted to not knowing how to determine if someone is racist. I'm getting huge Michael Knowles energy from this guy

I hope affirmative action supports med school applicants. I'd hate for a great doctor not become one because of legacy enrollment

Glyn what’s your opinion on legacy enrollment. Is that racist too?
