    Great tips. Thank you!
    On a side note, the gates under the deck are probably already sagging because the diagonal brace goes from the top hinge down instead of from the bottom hinge up. From a comment you made, you probably didn’t build them.

    Time is money. Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Looks like CA glue is the best option. Such a difficult material to successfully glue since its made from a mixture of plastic, wood, and resins. Cheers.

      Azek has come out with a glue for full pvc deck boards that may be worth a shot as well

      @@AMAYERICAN I am disappointed in Azek. The first Azek deck I built the color faded considerably after one season. Then another time I used Azek to replace deck railings and the Azek shrinks longitudinally considerably. My deck rails are 2 piece due to the overall length so I scarf joined them and used a metal plate and screws on the underside to join the pieces. But with seasonal weather changes I will get a 3/8" gap at the joint. But if you say they have a glue for full PVC I wonder if standard PVC solvent cement would work? Cheers.

      Thanks for sharing thats good to know, I was under the impression that azek was tip of the line so good to know it may not live up to the hype. As far as the glue I have had the same thought. I have used pvc cement on column wraps that were off brand pvc and it worked great. I would think it would all be the same if its pvc.

    I’ve tried everything from CA to epoxy glue on my deck. At first glance it appears to be holding but it will let go after 4-6 month. I think expansion and contraction of composite boards is too much for any glue.
    My last resort is stainless pocket screws.
    Thank you for test and video!

      Thanks for sharing ! Let me know how the pocket screws hold. I think picture frames but joints are the way to go now!

    I'm at that stage on my build and was wondering which way you ended up using to glue the corners and how is it holding up? Thanks a bunch for the great content!

    • @AMAYERICAN
      @AMAYERICAN  Před 2 lety +1

      Man the CA glue did not hold up well on the facia but that job was Menards composite which in notorious for violent expansion/ contraction. I have had alot better luck on the stair treads tho.

    That’s right always check with the manufacturer and you just violated all their rules by not gapping it for expansion and contraction!

    I lay tons of Trex, and I've pretty much given up using miters anywhere. I cut my boards long, make a waterfall edge with a heat gun and CA, then trim the excess off.

    • @AMAYERICAN

      Same here, I still do a pic frame, just but joint. Where I have exposed end grain I ca glue a veneer piece. Method I picked up from Dr decks. Also miter folding a deck board for facia corners is s nice detail I started using last summer. Sounds like you do similar methods! What part of the country you from ?!

      @aj5681 on the heat gun method ? That’s what I switched to as well works great! Dr decks has a video covering it! I also think I have a short of a pic frame detail where you glue caps on butt end pic frames

    Have you done miters with Deckorators Voyage MBC?

    • @AMAYERICAN

      Have not, have heard great things about deckorators tho. Big fan of TT azek vintage. Does stay much cooler, great colors and realistic grain patterns.

    Why not round over ends and stain the ends?

    • @AMAYERICAN
      @AMAYERICAN  Před rokem

      That’s an idea, I didn’t know composite would accept paints at the time of this video but behr makes a paint/ stain for composite that works great, I don’t know how long it will last without needing touched up tho

    • @peterford9369
      @peterford9369 Před rokem +1

      @@AMAYERICAN I'm sure it will accept an oil stain. And obviously stain soaks in. So it's not just a coating to fade or wash off in the weather. As for rounding over the edge, saves having to cap, creating another unnecessary seam. At least for outside decks and steps. Interior is a bit different, when you're looking for a more dressy finish.
      I'm not used to composite as much. I'm a 70 year old carpenter and I kinda learned old school. Oil stains, varnish, lacquer. Wood 😉. But I also understand conservation. Replanting forests etc.
      Your stuff looks good. Been a carpenter all my working life. So I appreciate good work.
      Take care.
