    • @Marco-zt2jj
      @Marco-zt2jj Před 4 lety +54

I mean, it may be a bit overpriced but it's not really the same thing, that one has cells allover the surface so that you can put seeds and stuff inside them for example instead of having to attach plants to it, so it's probably more practical, maybe using a simple vase would make water fall on the floor and so on, and it's even cooler than a simple vase aestethically, the price takes the design into account as well, like any other piece of furniture. A $300 chair has the same functionality as a $10 one, which doesn't mean that it's overpriced as it may be cooler to look at, more comfortable, maybe they used better materials etc etc. Everything is overpriced if you compare it to diy stuff, I can make myself chairs, tables and anything else with a bunch of wood for almost no money, but I don't go to supermarkets and tell them their furniture is overpriced because I can do it for less

To be fair, they are still in the process of selling those pots and they do have to build them at first. They need the terracotta, get the right mixture, build the right hull to burn the terracotta in a burning oven (which isn't cheap) for clay and other things which is also very expensive, planned shipments oversea and so on. I think they just try to protect their own business. All the materials, planning, own money and time they invested into this, I'd be very defensive, too, if someone makes a video that could be taken as 'belittling' their product for their price. It's a good video for those who don't have the money but saying they are fishy for protecting their business isn't nice. Both of you have a point.

So... there must be a way to make a cheap terraplanter-like mold to create these terra cotta pots. If you want to add seeds to the pot, I think you could do the following :
    - take a length of paper towel, long enough to wrap around the terracotta pot
    - cut a few lengths of twine, long enough to secure the papertowel around the pot.
    - Lay the twine on the table, lay the paper towel on top of it
    - wet the towel gently with a basic water sprayer
    - sprinkle the seeds on the paper towel, the water will make them stick to it, unless they are big seeds.
    - lay the terracotta pot on top, and roll it along the paper towel, and wrap the pot in the paper towel.
    - use the twine to secure the paper towel and seeds.
    - fill with water
    - ???
    - Profit !
The seeds will be between the pot and the paper towel, which should be nice and moist.
As the seeds sprouts, they will punch out through the wet paper towel, to get to that lovely sunlight.
And they will create a root network, that surrounds the pot, giving them something to hang on to.
Also, the twine will help a bit.
Now go make a video about it ... and make a follow up.
I wanna see if it works. 😁

To be fair, it's a terracotta pot that's been carved with a 3D-printer-cutter-thingy which probably was somewhat of an expensive investment for the company 😊

Great Video. I think for seed as you could try wrapping in thin Felt for texture and grip? I have a terracotta animal figure from the 1960’s It has a hollow water well inside. And it’s designed so you can grow seeds on its rough clay back. The kick-starter has taken an old idea and is making out they invented the concept, outrageous!
