This is the best version of Crossroads! Love Steve Winwood on the piano and Eric on guitar. I could listen to this all night!
Not even close. CREAM's version from "Wheels of Fire" is the immortal version (aside from Robert Johnson's original). The Powerhouse's version was pretty good, too (see the Elektra album feat. Clapton and Winwood, pre-Cream, pre-Traffic).

Great stuff. Hearing Winwood sing Crossroads with Clapton's guitar is like a dream of the way it could have been way back when. Both have had great careers, but the combo was/is true magic.

I love how Winwood grabbed his guitar by mistake and just put it down and went back to the piano. amazing that he's so good at both instruments. I didn't realize he was proficient at the guitar as well until about 5 years ago.

He opened for Clapton in Raleigh 12 or so years ago and Winwood played guitar exclusively.. He had a separate keyboard player in his band and only 4 pieces... Winwood was born to make music... His set was 45 minutes of pure sparkling music... Maybe even a better set than Erics... Eric had obviously given him a good soundcheck... And I always love it when the headliner gives the opener a good sound check... These days I find it inexcusable if they don't....

Eric and Stevie were in a very short lived group called The Powerhouse that they formed with Jack bruce on bass in 1966 they did a version of Crossroads that is still available on cd. This was the first time that Clapton and Bruce played this song a full year before they did it in Cream.
WOW! I never knew of that bit of trivia. Thanks for the enlightenment man!
And it’s still one of the best versions around. Seems to be in a different key to what Clapton normally uses for the song.
They also formed Blind Faith. Epic band. What a performance this is. Absolutely briljant. It doesn't come better than this.

I like how Winwood is always smiling. On the othe side ofthe stage is apretty good keyboard player in Chris Stainton.
