Wow that’s a gorgeous self portrait. With this video You taught me how to do a portrait by doing the hair, neck & face shapes before doing the facial expressions & details. I am always so focused on the details first instead doing those at the end. I have been doing a self portraits for the past few years & while learning lots & improving it’s still the subject that I hesitate to do the most.

Wow, that is absolutely beautiful; just like you. I always struggle when I do self portraits, I guess because it can be a very intense self appraisal and introspection. Sometimes, truly looking at oneself can be uncomfortable, when other subjects pull you to the act of representing the beauty that you see there. When we paint ourselves we are keenly aware of all that lays beneath the surface. I will keep trying to capture my image without cringing and harsh criticism. Learning to fully love myself can be a difficult quest. Thank you for sharing this and your shining self.

This really inspired me. I've wanted to do a self portrait for a while but i put it off for the entirety of last year. I really resonated with what you said about fear. I've postponed it because i thought i am good enough and I'm always so self-critical. But i think self portraits are always so beautiful. Thanks to this video, i think i'm going to do one today. Beautiful self portrait and words of wisdom! I'm taking a Drawing II class at our local community College. For the self-directed assignments I'm am drawing portraits of my cats in pastels. One is already completed, and it turned out beautifully! I have to start the next one. I was held back on drawing them because I was afraid they would not turn out well. But, you have to at least try and keep practicing 😊.

Very nice! When does a portrait become ART, and yes with all caps (lol)? I don't know, mostly we think portraits are illustrations and not 'real', but I think your portrait is definitely ART. I guess it's when you capture the essence of someone and the portrait, which is usually of interest only to family or loved ones, becomes important to all of us.

Wow, that was exquisite work on your self portrait! By the way, I was a bit stuck in a rut in terms of what to do with colored pencils but your video about the top 10 tips for colored pencils of a few months ago gave the the motivation to get back into it. I've been working on faces of my own using those tips. As far as self portraits go, I've never done one but have been pondering it as of late. I took a few photos of myself to use as reference, but something was missing. Then my daugther took a picture of me about a week ago; my facial expression along with the angle she took the photo from seems just right. I think I've found my reference photo. Oh, and happy belated birthday. Cheers!
