  • Before continuing my chronological journey through Band-Maid's catalog, I was looking for a live video (fancam, probably) of "ORDER" and I found what appears to be an official video. ("ORDER" is from 'Brand New Maid', 2016).

Several comments that showed up here on the video page are STILL not showing in my "Studio" page (and vice versa), and I'm not getting ANY notifications of replies. I do appreciate all the comments. It's the studio track over live footage. It wasn't a pretend concert. They did the same in the MV's of "Before Yesterday" and "Secret My Lips". The video was included on the DVD that came with the limited edition 'Type A' of "Brand New Maid". On the DVD were the MV's of "Non Fiction Days", "Order" and "Alone". 'Type B' came without the DVD but the bonus live track instead.

    Interesting watching the older footage to see how much they and the music may have changed but also how much they keep in. Kanami's tapping, The bass solo and for me the thrill of spotting a Miku rock pose. She loved making sure she could and still does little poses with the guitar. Seems silly but in the Yokohama concert of over three hours. One of the highlights for me was seeing Miku step out with a new intro to a song but throw a few rock poses about. Appearing to still love the whole showbiz part of the show. Forever the show woman. Brand New Maid seems to get better with every play. The concert footage felt very much in the style of the footage for 'Before Yesterday' Concert part of that MV. One of the songs that brought me first to the band. Looking forward to hearing your reaction and review of that. Thanks again for these. Miku strike a pose.

    In 2016 Miku had just gotten the basics of rhythm guitar down and was beginning to really enjoy playing live. Yes, that's a metal front Zemaitis. Zemaitis had invited Kanami to tour their facility and wanted to offer her an exclusive sponsorship, but Kanami was already committed to Paul Reed Smith Guitars. Kanami went anyway and brought Miku along. I've heard that it was Kanami who suggested that Zemaitis offer the sponsorship to Miku instead. While Mincho has her collection of seagull inlay fretboard PRS guitars, Miku now has a large array of Zemaitis guitars: acoustic, pearl fronts, disc fronts, metal fronts, and of course her signature Flappy Pigeon. The latest one that I have seen is a black disc front that she played at Yokohama Arena with a *pigeon inlay fretboard.*

    • @w.b.562
      @w.b.562 Před 4 měsíci

      Zemaitis wanted a sponsorship with Kanami, invited her. Kanami HAD to refuse in the end as she was with Addictone at that time. However she accepted the tour invitation and took Miku with her... Zemaitis however - for some reason - really wanted to be associated with Band-Maid, so they offered Miku the sponsorship. They knew fully well she was a rookie player at the time, but they wanted their name attached to the band (-> some real fans in the management I guess ;)
      It was also push for Miku to get serious - "japanese ethics" kicks in - ala "they put trust in me, most work hard to not let them down". As Miku got better, they started to put her guitar louder in the mix, she covered the mid-range. MISA switched a couple months after Mikus Zemaitis deal to a 5-string bass to also handle the lower registers. Kanami had to wait for her Addictone deal to end, and moved to PRS guitars for a brighter sound in the higher parts. All natural progress
      In the end Zemaitis (from a business perspective) lucked out on having Miku - she actually makes sure to willingly promote it. For Kanami and MISA these are just their instruments - they might love them personally, but they don't actively promote them (the brands).
      The "Miku tours Zemaitis" video is from 2021 - the make the "Flappy Pidgeon" behind-the-scenes sorta... However she visits Zemaitis quite a lot and posts stuff here and there on instagram and so on. Also her wearing Zemaitis branded cloths off-stage

    This music video "order" was recorded live at eggman, a live house in Shibuya, Tokyo, in 2016.
    It is included in the bonus DVD of the limited edition album "Brand New Maid".
    The audio is probably after recording.
    They played this song during the show and encore!
    After the show rather than as an encore by the audience,
    SAIKI: "Wouldn't you like to hear one more song? Right?
    and they spontaneously started to play.
    The reason for this is assumed to be that the music video had to be edited in two takes.
    In any case, this was a very rare encore performance by BAND-MAID.
    I felt I got a lot out of listening to the live performance.

      It’s the reverse headstock on the Addictone that is the giveaway, also the lack of metal plating. Also, there must be a third concert (at least) because some of the footage has Miku completely without guitar.
      I think this was the phase of Band Maid’s evolution where they started protecting Miku’s guitar playing as she learned. Most of the shots of her playing are out of focus, which I find adorable due to the band’s care for each other. On looking closely at her “engraved” guitar, I can’t tell whether it is a “standard” Zemaitis CS24 MF or the “Aces and Eights”. I’m sure someone will be able to tell me when she got her first “Aces and Eights” (she has had several), but I would imagine this video is very early in the collaboration.

    This used to be an official released video that was included with the special edition of the album. It used to be on CZcams, but when the Ladies switched labels, they took down several of their older MV's.
    This video was shot at a few different live performances at some of the small shows the Ladies did. Some of the places the Ladies performed would be as small as 150 capacity, up to clubs that could have 400-500. It was those smaller clubs they performed at, that made the Ladies most of their income until after Just Bring It was released.
    You may have noticed that Miku's guitar changed several times during the video. Also this was the time that Miku was just getting involved with Zemaitis, but she would still use her Rickenbacker and a few times she used Kanami's backup AddicTone.

    Contrary to popular belief in the West Band-Maid are not even that well known in Japan and still mostly play very small venues there. I went to Japan last October and followed them on tour (four concerts in two weeks). Apart from the fans at the actual concerts NOBODY I met had even heard of them - not even rock fans I met. I even attended a punk concert at one point, the fans there had never heard of Band-Maid either (though the actual band knew of them). Apart from the first and last shows on their 10th anniversary tour most venues were around 500 - 1,500 capacity. When I saw them in Akita the capacity was 350! Maybe they are more known in Tokyo, but I was in the North. Ryan Mear commented that it really surprised him when he visited Japan that the Japanese bands we know and love still play in tiny venues and are not as famous as we think.

      Okay. I had no idea it was a popular belief in the west that Band-Maid was well-known anywhere. It's always been my impression that they're NOT incredibly well-known. Which is sad, in my opinion, especially given some of the acts that ARE well known around the world. :-)

      @etoineschrdlu9382 Před 4 měsíci +2

      That was the impression I've had. Miku and Saiki are constantly promoting Band-Maid and when you see their TV interviews, many of the interviewers don't know who they are and are surprised to find out that Band-Maid is popular outside of Japan. If a Japanese recognizes Miku, they only remember her as the "Crazy rock musician who thinks she's a pigeon and wears cutesy maid outfits". We can only hope that this is changing.

    Don't think they are accustom to big stages for one minute. I saw them in Charlotte last May 2023 and lucky if it held 1000 people. If you check out the Fan Cams from all the 10th Anniversary show in the US last year you'll be surprised at the small capacity. They even played at Eggman in Japan, one of their first venues they ever played at getting started. It was a PPV streaming show and was great but so tiny. Seems they love small venues, or it doesn't bother them.

      To be fair, I think I said "MORE accustomed to..." :-) Perhaps I should have said (to be more accurate): "In their more current music videos that depict them on stage, they're playing in much larger venues than this. :-)
      Certainly, all their "official" lives that I've seen are filmed in larger spaces. It's impressive to me that, as you say, they seem equally comfortable in both small and large venues, big stages with runways and small stages with little room to maneuver. Good for them. :-)
