Fire Alarm at Granville Island Hotel, Vancouver BC, May 4, 2012 - 4:34 AM

  • Man oh man ... was wakened out of a very deep sleep ... thought it was the phone ringing or something ... once I "came to", I realized it was the fire alarm ... didn't smell any smoke, but thought it best to vacate anyway. Turns out it was the night cleaners working in the kitchen & by accident they set the alarm off, LOL. Still love the place though & I would go back there in a second next time I'm in Vancouver. Best room for the view is #316 .. a corner room with 2 balconies & lots of windows.

  • @GaryBeltz
    @GaryBeltz Před 11 lety +17

    It all depends on the age of the building and the contractors who install and choose the fire alarm system. All Alarms installed after 95 must be programmed sound in code-3/temporal which is what this is. I think the panels that do voice evacuation may be given exceptions to this but regardless of horn/bell, chime, and so on they must sound in this same pattern

    • @roycenimchuk8425
      @roycenimchuk8425 Před 6 měsíci +1

      My school in Vancouver does not use that pattern it’s just constant there’s no stops in the pattern and it was put in in 2008

      NJMoo3652 If there are only bells and no strobes, what will deaf people do? Strobes are meant to alert deaf people that the alarms are going off, and if there are no strobes, how will deaf people react? I suppose friends or other people could wake them up, but still... you get my point.

    • @NJMoo3652
      @NJMoo3652 Před 9 lety +5

      But in many cases there are only bells. I'm not quite sure if Canada has ADA or in this case CDA requirements otherwise the bells would be mounted on strobe plates

    • @SamMcWhannel
      @SamMcWhannel Před 8 lety +4

      +NJMoo3652 Newer buildings do have strobes. The old buildings are grandfathered and are not required to retrofit the strobes. Similar to when Canada moved to the international "running man" exit signs, existing buildings do not have to be updated.

    *Tech then hangs up.*
    Tech: Then what is that sound? I'd better investigate.
    Tech: THE FIRE ALARMS?
    I'm gonna contact Thunderbeam in the morning.
    *Next morning, Tech contacts Thunderbeam*
    Thunderbeam: Hello?
    Tech: At around 5 in the morning, we had a fire alarm with those stupid MB-G12-24s
    Thunderbeam: OK, I'll be there soon.
    *15 minutes later, Thunderbeam arrives with a Simplex 4007ES voice evac panel.*
    Tech: Thanks for installing better fire alarms.
    Thunderbeam: You're welcome!

      These bells are really really loud like super loud , over loud , like louder than the smoke detector , loud for the whole entire neighborhood/street or the stores near you to hear

    follow the evacuation route given in your bedroom. If it was a real fire,you would need to get out as quickly as possible.
