What a difference a week makes - Lake Cathie first opening - 4th March 2022

As little kids we used to go to Vinegar Creek (Bonny Hills) and Lake Cathie (we lived at Kendall). Our parents could sit with us in the relatively shallow water and get cool whilst we frolicked.
Back in those days (1950s) both bodies of water would be regularly opened to the sea, either by nature - in most cases - or by some bloke with a bull-dozer. They'd be flushed out and nobody objected....in fact, they welcomed it.
Even when the sand-mining along this stretch of coast was at its height, the creek and the lake were never closed off.
So it was great to see that filthy water being discharged at low tide and the fresh inflow occurring when the tide turned. Thanks, Alex.
