  • The 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee continues to provide the styling and image made famous over 25 years as a best-selling SUV. Despite some questionable reliability and a powertrain warranty demotion from 100,000 miles to 60,000, Jeep continues to provide a good-looking and trail-ready SUV: as Chris Wardlaw puts it, the Grand Cherokee is a “rolling representation of freedom, an escape pod from the daily grind.”
A 295-hp, 3.6-liter V6 should deliver 21 miles per gallon combined thanks to its 8-speed automatic transmission, and a lowered “aero mode” suspension setting and the vehicle's tight turning radius are blessings for anyone too accustomed to 3-point turns. The Overland trim, shown here, includes a 19-speaker sound system, an easy to use infotainment display with drag-and-drop buttons, and an impressive advanced technology package. This includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.
With a full-size spare tire, Jeep’s Selec-Terrain system, and a Quadra-lift air-suspension system capable of providing up to 10.4 inches of ground clearance, the Grand Cherokee Overland will take you just about anywhere. Thanks to comfortable front seats, plus air vents and dual-USB plugs available to the heated rear seats, you’re sure to be well taken care of along the way.

People are drawn to the Jeep Grand Cherokee because it provides the ability to go almost anywhere at almost anytime and to do almost anything.
There are three reasons to choose a Jeep Grand Cherokee over other SUVs: You need to tow a fair amount of weight, you need to go far off the pavement, or you simply like this Jeep’s styling and image. No matter the case, know that the Grand Cherokee requires compromise in order to obtain these undeniably attractive attributes.

Thank you thank you thank you! This is the best video I've seen. You are very detailed with all the features. We purchased our May 2016. We have the 2016 GC Overland. I love it! Ours is fully loaded without the front sensors. my husband stated if he went that route he would have gotten the Summit. We do have the panoramic sunroof. I have subscribed in hopes to see future videos about this Jeep. Thanks.

I don’t tow or go off-road so although I love the look and have been drooling over it for a while I think I’ll move onto something more suited for my lifestyle and not waste the money and hassel with repairs. Thank you again.

I had the chance to rent this car for a weekend vacation and was very impress with the way it handled and the amount of power it produces. It performed great going uphill and through the countryside. The only thing I wish my rental came with is a backup camera and sensors because it's kind of difficult to check my surroundings.

I've had a 2019 and 2018 model as a rental, one got 25 mpg and the other 26 mpg on a 750 mile round trip cruising at 80mph a lot of the way on the freeway. I could get over 20 on a through town drive. How anyone could get 18 mpg is beyond me, unless you are totally thrashing it. I've found them to be a fantastic vehicle in terms of refinement and comfort for what they are and given it's an off road capable SUV I don't understand the testers comments regarding handling and cornering. Personally I prefer the non air spring model for ride and handling and probably long term durability. I drive and have driven all sorts of vehicles and feel most of the gripes the tester came up with were just looking for things to complain about, my wife is 5' 2" and never found it high, if it were an issue and you have air suspension you could always drop the vehicle down if that really was an issue.

      @dannykelly3617 Před 8 lety

I think he doesn't give the jeep enough credit in the car like department. I'm familiar with the grand Cherokee and they are extremely quiet and relatively car like. The only trade off may be ride quality but it's not really to bad. Most reviews don't mention the drawbacks that he mentioned, but to each is own. I would advise you to test drive the grand Cherokee, Ford Edge, Nissan Murano, Dodge Journey, and Chevy Equinox. Hope I could help! Happy car shopping!

Had a XC90 and before that an used ML before I decided to get a GC Overland in December. Loads of flaws with the XC and the ML including a broken drive train and a new clutch on the XC after only 100K miles and major electric problems on ML. Talking to real people before buying the Jeep you find out that reliability issues are often a myth - both on the good and bad side. I didn´t want to buy Volvo and Mercedes anymore because of many reasons, one being the design. I don´t like the Audi. So at the end there was the choice between X5 and GC. X5 is a great car - no question. But here in Europe too many people drive around with it who cannot even afford the gas bill. And it is very expensive. For every little extra you pay a premium. Check on the DVD alone. Jeep about 1500,00 Euros, Beemer 2500,00 Euros for basically the same. When you compare the price of the X5 with the Jeep with the same features you end up paying about 20k Euros more. That´s the price of a whole car. No wonder BMW makes Billions of record profits. Another reason for the GC was its footprint as one of the last remaining real SUVs. You actually can go offroad out of the box. Try that with any other wannabes. Oh, you like the better high speed performance of the Beemer ? Then why do you buy a SUV in the first place and not a nice sports sedan like the Audi A6 or the BMW 5 series ?

The guy should read the owners manual before doing a review. If his wife is having a hard time getting in and out of the vehicle because she's short, there is a setting you could put on that the air suspension lowers when you turn the vehicle off.
Also, the climate controls on the touch screen is easy to use and find.

I'm in the exact same boat as you, my friend! I've always loved the JGCs and wanted one...and after driving a 2018 Summit as a rental, I fell in love. I'm really debating selling my Honda and buying a 2019 Summit, but like you said...I hesitate in buying Mopar due to their horrible past history of being unreliable. Everyone that I have talk to that currently owns a JGC says that they love theirs and have had no issues...so maybe Mopar has turned themselves around? 🤞 Although, reading the complaints on NHTSA for the 18/19 JGCs...some of those are HORRIFYING and major safety issues! Cruise control failing to disengage (currently recalled), the 8 spd automatically shifting itself into [D] or [R] by itself and RPMs surging, flying the GC into multiple parked cars or up over embankments (prob 5-6 of those complaints filed)...one just randomly went up into flames with only 300 miles on the ODO...Now I have no idea if those complaints are legit or not but if they are, that makes me extremely apprehensive. You posted 9 months ago...did you end up buying a GC? If so, how is it?

  • @CrazyAboutVinylRecords

Consumer Reports is hardly the last word on anything. Other sources rate the Grand Cherokee much higher in terms of reliability, and so do a lot of owners. There plenty of people here on CZcams posting videos of their long-term ownership experience with the Grand Cherokee, and I think they are far more credible than Consumer Reports.

for that price, you can get a bigger, more reliable and more capable patrol/armada.
buying a chrysler product is a mistake unless you are willing to replace your car every 3 years.

I said Patrol. The Armada 2017 is just a little bit of patrol but thats it.
It is not a real Patrol.
Ask the military around the world as to why they use the Patrol.
Shit vs shit. Chrysler is the worst and oh, Fiat joined in.
I would buy a Chevy and some ford but non of Chrysler.

look at 2017 Armada. it has some Patrol DNA but it is not a real Patrol.
You are a jeep fanboy. why not try other makers. lol
You even diss the MDX. comparing it to a jeep. lol

    • @ChummyChime

ive owned a 4runner too, pilot, CRV, Journey, Grand Cherokee, Charger, 2 Civics, Neon, Pathfinder, MDX, Armada and I even traded my 2012 Pilot for the new fit because i just love replacing my cars, but it was fun having sex in the back of the magic seat, small but big on the inside.
Now i am waiting for the new Expedition.
You are comparing apples to oranges when you compare to MDX. you can say it belongs to the grocery store but it will last longer than any of your jeep.
      there were 2 topics
      1. off road worthy, there is no way the grand cherokee is better than the 4runner.
      2. Reliability, there is no way a jeep is more reliability based on number of units sold and the complaints/recalls.
i mentioned that jeep belongs in the garage which i experienced. also look at the statistics and compare the recalls, repairs etc. youll be surprised.
It is more expensive to keep a jeep after 3 years and the resale value is very low than most of other makers.
people make fun of Kia and Hyundai, they have issues too but at least they provide longer warranty, while Dodge doesnt and the customer service, compare to Honda for instance, is bad, you are the customer but they act like the boss.

correction, currently owned Grand Cherokee and shitty Journey.
I will trade the Journey for the new Expedition and the Grand Cherokee for the new Odyssey, which are not put yet.

      your logic is incorrect.
you get the percentage not the units.
the bottom line is, there is a reason why the resale value of the Jeeps are very low.
you are the small percentage of the whole units sold.
makers make updates on cars, for istance, not all 2017 Grand Cherokee are the same. try purchasing a part and the Jeep dealer most likely will ask for the vin while Honda will less likely ask.
this is because the quality is higher. jeep, make changes as they see complaints pouring in.

0:50 Dude, I don't care much for Trump but the reality is it sucks we allow US companies to do so much outsourcing of parts to Mexico. So rather than making a snarky comment about it let's just work together to push the US companies to built it here, make it here 100%. We need manufacturing jobs period.

No problem with mine either. Off road all the time. Awesome vehicle. Like Johnathon said, maybe you don't know how to properly maintain a vehicle. OR (more likely) you are just hopping on the bandwagon of all the Jeep haters and have no real experience with a late model Jeep. I laugh at some "owners" who claim that it practically fell apart on them within the first month. Sorry, not buying it with a modern day car. NO car made nowadays is THAT bad. Indeed, the quality and reliability of cars today is head and shoulders of where it was just 10 years ago. So yea, maybe when compared with all other cars, it's average, but average is pretty damn good nowadays!

Agreed. I think most manufacturers have caught up with the major Japanese brands for reliability. In fact, I'm kinda seeing a reduction in quality from Honda. But nothing that "falls apart" in the first month...or even first five years.
