I think you will be just fine. When i did it they tried scaring everyone with the road conditions and it the road turned out to be fine. I drove it with a four wheel drive vehicle but never took it out of 2 wheel drive. I did it in the winter when the road was at its worst.

@@daanxbox360 I've driven that road several times. The rangers are not lying. It can get full of deep ruts and mud. A light passenger car will take a beating if you don't know how to drive carefully on dirt roads. There are definitely low spots that can fill with water and mud. That mud can get like grease and cover your tires so you have zero control and lose all traction. It is very heavily traveled and gets serious washboard. I've only ever ridden on it in a Jeep. It could be a long dusty drive in a car.
My friend tried to help out some girls heading to the Wave who got a flat tire. He had a patch kit and could have got them going again, but it was a sidewall cut. All they had was a donut for a spare. Unless they hitched a ride, I doubt they were going to make their hike.
What's even worse than rocks though are tumbleweed. Do not run over a tumbleweed. They too can easily destroy a tire. If there is any wind you can expect to run across them rolling down the road.
If you are inexperienced, just hire a local guide who can drive you there and make sure you get there and back safely.

Just got back from my Wave trip. It was incredible, but not sure I would spend years tying to get a permit. The Wave is still overwhelmed even with the 60 people limit. Unfortunately you are likely to find Chinese/Asian people plopping their butts in the main section for the entire day. The ranger we met said it has become popular for wedding photos and these all day photo shoots. He told a story about a Japanese couple where the woman brought 10 changes of clothes with matching shoes. On our trip there were like 6 Chinese people 2 "models" and 4 others taking pictures. They were pretty much in the same spot for at least 4 hours. If you need to get pictures, they will move if you ask. But, they still made it feel like you were the one in the way if you wanted to walk through that section or take photos. Technically they should be getting a professional photoshoot permit for something like that. Maybe it was our unlucky day, but it seems to be becoming a problem that the BLM needs to place limits on.
It was a zoo and not really a pleasant experience at the Wave itself. It's a once in a lifetime trip that you will only want to do once. But, please go prepared. Do not bring your dog. Carry all the water they recommend. But, if you are just there to be a tourist, do photo shoots and ignore the rules, stay home. Unless you are an experienced and prepared backcountry hiker who can hike 6 or more miles in extreme and variable conditions, you will be wasting your time and money or worse yet, spending a lot of money for a rescue. Spend the money and hire one of the local guides if you are inexperience and insist on going.
Sadly, they changed the day of lottery and you can register for it online even if you are in Page or Zion. Which means that the casual tourists will be terribly overwhelming I bet.
Funny thing about the road, the next day, a friend tried to help some girls who had a pass for that day. They got a sidewall cut in their tire and they had only reached Buckskin Gulch. They would have had to travel the rest of the way on a donut tire or hitch a ride in to make their hike. The road was in almost perfect condition with just minor washboard. So, yeah, the road can cause problems. And, I have seen it with very deep ruts from winter mud. It's not that far, but if you are driving a Prius or similar light passenger car, you'd better plan for double or triple the time to cover the miles. Also watch out for tumbleweed. Do not run over a tumbleweed! They can easily destroy tires too.
They have added a few more markers for way finding. And, by the time you get near The Wave, there will be a pile of people at the steep climb into it. So, it's not too hard to find if you study the maps and have good navigational skills. If not, you will probably get lost.

The online permitting is now done through @t and the non-refundable fee is $9. If you win, there is an additional $7 per person and per dog.
Also, the in-person lottery is no longer done at the BLM office, it's now held at the Kanab Visitor & Convention Bureau, 20 North 100 East Street. (Park in the rear and enter the gymnasium.) There is no fee unless you win, and then it's the same $7 per person/dog.
Another change. During March through early November, they draw every day for the following day. From mid-November through February, they draw on Friday for the three following days.

We just hiked The Wave on 11/07/22; my husband, me, and my twins are 11 years old, and my two dogs are both mini schnauzers. The hike was no joke. It is not a flat trail; you will go up, down, and sideways. Lol
There is no trial, so please get yourself a trial app. I recommend the AllTrails app. It was beneficial. It is 3.2 miles to get there, and while you might think, “oh, 3.2 miles is not bad at all,” this one is. It took us 4 hours to reach The Waves. Be mindful of your time. You don’t want to be hiking when the sun goes down. We drove a Nissan Murano, and the road to get to the Waves was a bumpy drive, so please take your time driving it. Tolled trucks were at the entrance of the road. The experience was worth it. Take lots of water, snacks, a first aid kit, and a fully charged phone. Remember you will use your phone to navigate, so battery life is essential. We took a portable charger as well. When you reach the Waves and low-key cry inside, you will think it was worth it!! I know I did. 🥲
