Embarking on the iconic hike to The Wave in Arizona requires thorough preparation and knowledge, and finding a comprehensive guide can be a game changer for adventurers. A standout resource for hikers is a CZcams video titled "Everything You Need to Know to Hike The Wave, Arizona." This video serves as an essential tool for anyone planning to visit this geological marvel. It covers a range of topics, from securing permits to navigating the challenging terrain. By offering detailed insights and practical advice, the video ensures that viewers can plan their hike with confidence, understanding not only the beauty but also the risks and responsibilities associated with this unique desert landscape.
The video breaks down the application process for the highly sought-after hiking permits, a critical step for anyone hoping to visit The Wave. Given the area's fragile ecosystem and the limited number of visitors allowed each day, the permit system is designed to preserve the natural beauty while ensuring visitor safety. The guide offers tips on increasing your chances in the lottery, important deadlines, and the best times of year to visit. Furthermore, it delves into the necessary preparations for the hike, such as what to pack, weather considerations, and safety tips. This information is invaluable for first-time visitors and seasoned hikers alike, providing a comprehensive checklist to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience.
Additionally, the video provides an in-depth look at the trail itself, offering viewers a virtual walk-through of the hike to The Wave. It highlights key landmarks and navigational tips to help hikers stay on track in the vast, unmarked desert terrain. The visual guide helps to demystify the route, which can be confusing due to the lack of clear trail signs, ensuring that viewers can confidently navigate the landscape. This segment of the video is particularly useful for visual learners and those unfamiliar with desert hiking, as it prepares them for the real-world conditions they will face. By the end of the video, viewers are not only informed about the logistical aspects of the hike but are also equipped with practical knowledge to tackle the challenge of The Wave, making it an indispensable guide for any outdoor enthusiast planning to visit this iconic Arizona landmark.
It's good for folks to understand about this hike. I know people who went to all the trouble (and luck) to get a permit, and go there and not really know what they were doing and they never found the Wave! They got lost on the hike! This was back when they only let 20 people per day in. What a waste of a permit / opportunity. So, your video is very helpful!
I've watched many videos about hiking to The Wave. This is hands down the best one. It's not even close. Thank you.
I wholeheartedly agree! Quality content indeed.
Amazing hike/tour. I know I'll never get to hike this due to mobility issues...but I felt as close as I've ever been with this video. Thank you.
Glad to hear that, thank you. Stay tuned for many more trail guides for beautiful spots...
Great stuff. Thanks
Just beautiful! Thank you.
Great detailed video .. thanku
Thanks for such a detailed info
Wow! What a great job !
Very informative..thanks for this video!!
Out of this world! Thanks for sharing.
This is a fantastic hike! I did this with my family in April 2022 (my parents were 72 and 67 years old) and we had no problem! Short hike and not as difficult.
Love your channel. Thanks for sharing all of the wonderful info.
Wow , I have to hike ! Thanks
Thank You!
I have always wanted to hike to the Wave. Thanks for the detailed information.
Excellent video! It really helps us get prepared for the visit! Thanks
Wow, a fantastic introduction to a fantastical place. Thx so much for all the work you put into this video!
Great video. We went here in September 2023, and it was an amazing experience. Your tips are spot on.
Wow! Excellent primer. Now I just need a permit. Thanks
Thanks for producing this quality video showing exactly what to expect for logistics as well as the beauty of the destination!
You're welcome, glad it was helpful!
Excellent video. The desert is very beautiful in the rain. IMO, that is the time to see it.
Very cool place, for sure! You tamed the hike to make it look doable. Certainly worth a trip to check it out.
Thanks!
Big thank you!!!!
Beautiful hike, did it a couple years ago. Definitely worth the effort to snag a permit and get there. It took me 2 years to actually get one.
Thanks for that I might slip that in the end of the week, plan on bagging buckskin Gulch from wire pass
Good job.
Another brilliantly crafted episode bud, absolutely gorgeous and such a professionally executed video!
thank you!
Great guide. I'll definitely have to add this to the list. Seem like you could spend quite a bit of time just wandering around and exploring. I might have missed if you covered it but no backpacking/ backcountry camping, I assume?
Nice walkthrough, thank you ! I’m going to try it next week. I’ll be in the area.
Good luck, def worth the effort
This video is amazing. I'll be doing the hike solo and this video is a great resource.
Thank you!
Hi, I came across your channel while looking for trails in this area . Waiting to see if we get the permit for July *fingers crossed * my 11 year old daughter is praying every day 😂 . Your video is Fantastic!
Awesome. I did this in December 2023. I will never forget the beauty of this trail. I saw lots of bighorn sheep. i stopped at Old town Paria afterwards for more cool stripped rock formations.
Nice have never seen the sheep here, must have been pretty cool
Do the subway next 😄
Wow, congrats on getting a permit! I've been trying for years and still no luck . And thank you for the detailed guide. I never knew it was such a trek just getting to the Wave. Guess the necessity of actually looking up how to do the hike never came up yet lol.
I've gotten the permit a few times so far - I try in winter or summer (leave before dawn) - think the chances are better at those times than in spring / fall
I got a permit on Jan 1 for April. It is totally possible if you apply consistently for a year
Awesome video, Thanks. For sue a bucket list hike. Btw, what equipment do you use to film?
For this one a DJI Pocket 3 and Sony A7siii
Great video thank you. What time would you suggest hiking in May? I’ve read early morning and then around 3pm.
Yup, leave at dawn or earlier, or later in the afternoon. And double check with the forecast, it can always vary (warmer or cooler).
@@Hikingguy great thanks. Hiked it in the morning. Your video was helpful.
Thanks for the video! Where can I download the map that shows your favorite spots at the wave? Gpx5?
Link under video or go to HikingGuy.kcom
Hey Cris, thanks for the video. Quick question on the permit if possible to answer; it notes that you are suppose to have a permit for both the North and South Coyote Buttes. My friend was awarded and I haven't look at the email but the permit was for the North so do we need to now apply for the South or does it give the option when confirming to also get the South. This permit process is a bit confusing.
I believe they are separate permits, there's no option to add on South (like when you can add Half Dome onto a Yosemite camping permit).
Any tips on how to score a permit when doing the on-line lottery? I have tried multiple times but no luck.
Pick the offseason and a weekday - I've scored a few times already doing it that way
When you pick up the tickets, does everyone in your party attend the safety briefing or can just one person attend it?
Just 1
Looks incredible! Is overnight camping allowed there?
No overnights unfortunately
It looks like a great place. Great job on the video and the detailed information. I remember beautiful place Antelope Canyon that we went to and was just amazed. I am wondering is a photography drone permissible I know national parks you can't do it and not sure if this is a state park or a national park
@@ksmobile1 Thank you and this area is a drone no-fly zone, but you could probably get some general nearby shots from the main road between Page and Kanab
@Hikingguy thank you. Can't wait to visit this place
The GPX file is a very short hike. Do you have one for the full 10mi?
I just checked it - it's all there. The tracks are one way.
Not sure what I am doing wrong. Says distance 1.2mi. All the cool additional spots are marked but the path you highlight in your video is not laid out or at least I don't see it.
@@finlaymd I'm seeing it okay on my GPS after download - can you try the download direct from here: caltopo.com/m/9D4E9
Where do you rent your truck from?
Avis
Been trying to get a permit for nearly a decade. Feel like there is a trick to landing a permit or a secret handshake. Can anyone clue me in?
I've got them weekdays in off season. Never on a weekend or popular months like Nov, etc.
Can you take a drone?
nope
Sorry you didn't have better weather for your adventure. At least it wasn't hot. I can tell an electronic map is ESSENTIAL. Would hate to get lost out there. Did you rent your Jeep in Cali or did you pick one up over there?
I've done this one in the summer before and clear in the winter, but never in the rain, this was the first time for that - makes the video harder to do but otherwise was great, nice and cool - and rented the Jeep in PHX as part of a larger trip in AZ - rental rates and airfare to PHX generally much better than Flagstaff or St George in my experience, just have to drive a couple hours more
How it cannot be a national park ? Fantastic !
Very delicate
What happens if they catch u without a permit?
Ranger told me usually fine is $1500 but they can go up to $10k and prosecute for jail time if you do something really stupid
Is it required to attend the orientation before the hike? Also, does the permit grant you to hike Wire Pass Slot Canyon/Buckskin Canyon Overlook?
Permit is good anywhere in North Coyote Buttes
& Orientation is not mandatory
@@Hikingguy thank you for your reply
Permits are on a lottery basis. That makes it much more difficult to go.
but there are no crowds
