New Delhi railway station is the largest and second busiest station in India and handles approximately 5 lakh passengers daily (approximately 170 -190 million passengers annually) will be redeveloped by Rail Land Development Authority(RLDA) which has invited bids from private players.
The station handles around 400 trains per day which are expected to further increase due to higher operational efficiencies resulting from the redevelopment and better yard utilization.New Delhi railway station (station code: NDLS), situated between Ajmeri Gate and Paharganj is the main railway station in Delhi. It is the busiest railway station in the country in terms of train frequency and passenger movement. Around 400 trains start, end, or pass through the station daily, which handled 500,000 passengers daily in 2013 with 16 platforms. The New Delhi railway station holds the record for the largest route interlocking system in the world along with the Kanpur Central Railway Station i.e. 48. The station is about two kilometres north of Connaught Place, in central Delhi. Most eastbound and southbound trains originate at New Delhi Railway Station; however, some important trains to other parts of the country also touch/originate at this station . Most pairs of Shatabdi Express originate and terminate at this station. It is also the main hub for the Rajdhani Express. New Delhi railway station is the highest earning railway station in Indian Railways based on passenger revenue followed by Howrah Junction. The Indian Railways has rejigged the redevelopment plan of New Delhi station by withholding the commercial development part from the core station development. The commercial development involving real estate would be taken up in the second phase while the station infrastructure including upgradation of passenger amenities, parking lots and core areas of the station building would be undertaken in the first phase, sources said.
They also said the railways would take up the redevelopment on a hybrid Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) model where the national transporter will pay 40% of the project cost during construction. The private player will have to invest the remaining 60% and the railways will pay back this amount in installments spread over 26 years. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has adopted this model of NH development known as Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
Sources said the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) made a detailed presentation before Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday. Since the railways will pay back the entire investment in installments and thereby minimizing the risk of private investors, the proposed user fee to be charged from passengers will come to the national transporter.
According to the plan, a double dome architecture structure of 450 meter long and 80 meter height would come up over the station. The total cost is estimated around Rs 4470 crore. There would be 25 floors high twin domes, which would be known as Infinity Towers, would cover all the 16 platforms of the station.

Why should honest passengers pay taxes? Do like China - link the payments to ID, and install cameras with Face ID detector (AI is 98-99% accurate), and then do reverse search on the IDs of people based on Passport/Adhar card/Voter ID and deduct money from bank automatically.

ur correct and urban planning is moving towards pestrain oriented developments. The focus on car traffic movements and the shit ton of almost expressway style roads around the station is a total pedestrain nightmare... unless you are being dropped off at the station in a car. Just compare this "modern" monstrosity with the sheer simplicity and elegance of CST. This contemprary mindset of accomodating road traffic by creating new and expanded roads is already going out of fashion in most of the western world. India is behind the trend and we should for sure implement indian architectural elements in more of the projects. This cheap tacky dubai look will age poorly.
@@anantpathak2899 well, in that video they also tell that from CP to station there will be pedestrian walk street with cycling tracks and food courts etc. and the entry and exit for station will be done over skywalks etc. the elevated roads are around the station is very important so that traffic runs smoothly
and in Ahmedabad station there is reference and design of modhera sun temple so and if you look inside Mumbai or Bengaluru airports they both are modern glassy but inside they are full with our culutre
