  • Travel agents often struggle with trying to be an expert in everything. Wanting to always please perspective clients, they feel like they can never say no, or suggest a different vacation experience. By developing a niche and being an expert on a destination, product, or travel type, travel agents will bring a new level of knowledge to their clients. This will help empower agents to match clients to their dream vacations.

Another great video from Bill Coyle. Sometimes your niche selects you! I began selling Disney Destinations because it's what I knew intimately. I'm in Texas and seasonly Disney Cruise Line sails from Galveston. As my clients would ask about a Disney cruise only to discover they weren't available from Galveston year round, they began asking for alternatives from Texas which are Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Then after their cruise they started asking about cruising in other destinations like Alaska, Hawaii, and the Mediterranean. Fast forward to today ... I became a CLIA Master Cruise Counselor and Cruising is my niche. It began with Disney Cruises, then expanded to more Ocean Cruises with more brands, and now River Cruising. When I began I had never been on a cruise, and now I have sailed in many parts of the world... and I love it!

Valuable! Thanks. Our niche in South Korea for a tour, we are very passionate and knows every detail not only places but the real culture. We've been battling with other agents who only sells random tour with tourist shopping traps on it. We tried to put more specific niches destination inside South Korea with honest and pure care, to enjoy the sceneries, taste great foods, and experience the local culture.

Hi Mireya! We recommend that you have first-hand experience of the niche you decide to pursue.
Keep in mind you do not need to exclusively sell travel within your niche, and you can always adapt as your travel business grows.
      Good luck!

Super informative video, thank you! I was wondering if you could do a video on the best ways to get started as a travel agent? Like is going to school necessary for this and would recommend starting with. a host company?
