The 5 and 6 (especiall the Tommy Mc version were the BEST Evos ever made. They were completely rally bred and had rugged mean looks that scared you when they came around the corners at you. The 7-10's are too sleek and have lost their rally luster. Too much like street cars and not rally cars. The 5 and 6's were the pennicle!
Hands down the 5,6, 6.5 Tommy Mac Evos were the BEST ever made. TRUE RALLY CARS. Not these wimpy sports sedans from 7 to 10. Those are street cars. Early Evos are true Rally Cars made for the street. There's a HUGE difference. HUGE.
Even though the Evo IX was beaten by a quarter-second, the Evo VI just went up against an MR FQ-320, and not the standard Euro Evo IX MR! Perhaps, it seems as if the Evo IX was more show-offy around the corners, but the Evo VI appeared more "focused" on getting to the finish line as soon as possible.

My buddy has owned 2 EVO 9's (first a stock MR, now a standard with upgrades) and he lives up in the mountains so drives the crap out of both and he is and avid enthusiast but he said he would trade his EVO9 for a EVO6 in a heartbeat haha
I grew up always wanting an evo 8 because of 2fast4furious. And as of last week, I officially bought my first evo. Surprizingly, it's an evo 6 haha. It's just more aggressive looking, and the interior is a bit more classy.
Dude the 6 is raw af. Put it on a tomei arms bold on feels 2 times faster. I have a 6.5 original tm silver bone stock just a motec ecu and a turbo from evo 8mr plus full system bold on. The car is 357bhp at 1.3 kills 400-450bhp cars . Evo 6 is brutal af. Clutch and electronic failures though... often :p they fixed those on 9
and for all those that are jumping on the 9's bandwagon, trust and believe the 6 would eat the 9 up with no hesitation. Most of you that hate the 6 have never even been in one. Living in Japan I was able to ride in the 4,5,6 and was there when they came out with the 7 and 8 and I tell you that the 6's were the best. They handled better and were just as fast as the 9's especially when it came to rally(if not faster). They are rugged and ready for rally unlike the 7-10's.

My 2018 WRX is about the same as my 1996 EVO, fun wise. Love both cars, must be this awd, turbo, stick shift combination. But, my Evo IV is faster, so sad they have stopped making it.
evo 1 to 6 are the best evos, evo 7/8 and onwards is where they started selling them in the american market, hence they got bigger, fatter, safer and more comfortable, same as the impreza and subaru legacy, im going to get an evo 6 soon, better buy them now before their value goes high,they wont make em like that again, i assure you

You gotta remember that the Evo 6 was(like JuanitoColombia says) the last real Evo because mitsi stopped basing Evo's after the 6on their actual rally cars. If they put the Evo 9 up against a Makinen Edition Evo then it would've got beaten by more! The 6 has a rally background where the 9 doesn't. Not to mention that the 9 was more refined so that the it appealed to the middle aged guy having mid life crisis as well as the younger car enthusiasts. I could go on but im running out of space..
there is alot of reasons. Every car company does it. If a car is fast one year next they might go a bit lower on hp and more on engine response or something, whatever the company is feeling.
Evo 9 uses 10.5t turbine where as evo 6 uses 9.8t. Smaller turbos means more resposne resulting in better acceleration and throttle response out of corners and off the line. That being said: I wanna see evo 6 7 8 and 9 race on this track now haha. Keen to see where the 7 and 8 would stand, considering the smaller yet quicker spooling turbos (9.8T rather tha 10.5t in the evo 9) as well as non mivec CT9A vs the evo 6.
non of this matters... both cars are great,i mean, i own evo4,5,6,7,8,9..and still... just a gap on the years, but hey, they're from the same shit, EVO :) love it :) p.s. i'd rather buy an evo rather than a lamborghini, why???? coz i can drive it thru gravel and snow, mud,.. and it cost less than lambo, :D

Not sure what I think of this comparison. On the first lap with the IX, she was playing and scrubbing off the tires so much that the tires could have been too hot for the timed lap. Also, unless these two cars were using the same exact tire, the test is flawed. It's like testing a car with Falken RT615's and the other with Bridgestone RE-11's. They're both street tires, but the RE-11's are seconds faster than 615's.

The 6 and 9 have different engine tunes for one... Also, as per ho1810 said, the computer and techs are different where the 9 has more computer control while the 6 relies more on driver control. The 6 is also relatively lighter than the 9. Power outputs show the 9 has more power, but weight to power ratios show the 6 on top. Either car is a good buy.
the 6 was the last of the real evo's because it was much more of a drivers car after the 6 evo's became to heavy and tech dependant. but the 7 in my opinion looks the tits in black
That evo VI is modified if you look carefully, it clearly has an aftermarket exhaust, and they dulled the sound of the VI in comparison to the IX to mask this. If it were truly stock to stock, I think they would have been dead even, with the VI being quicker around turns but the IX owning the straights.

Yeah, but it has 46 more HP and I doubt it can have better handling because it has an older, more outdated suspension, an old chassis and, to top it all off, the XI has something that the VII doesn't: Active Yaw Control (AYC). And only some of the RS (low-end) model don't have fog lights. The normal trim (GSR) has them.
the evo6 is also lighter she for got that its not all about power. its all about the power to weight ratio. if you keep the same suspension for both and 1 weighs more obviously 1 will be better around corners.

TurbonegrolXMR is right. That VI is not standard. The first thing i noticed was the the straight through system rather than the bent stock one. I'd say the VI has stage 1 mods (system, fuel pump, ecutek map of stock ecu etc etc) to prob give it around 350 - 360bhp. Bein a VI RS owener i'd have the 6 :D
hmm for this VI being stoc,k the brakes squeal like only a big brake upgrade would squeal... but not taking sides here, i love both the VI and the IX (ok im biased towards the Ix bcos i own one)
Stock for stock the 6 is lighter with a more responsive turbo. Once you start modding the cars, the 9 has a lot more potential due to parts available. I've been around lots of competition cars and the 9 is definitely a superior platform for building overall.
You can just cank up the pression of turbo on the evo 6 and its still lighter than the 9, descent coilovers and its prefet, evo 9 cant have the same driving experiance then the evo 6 its much more rav and the 9 is more raffined
i always thought the 7 was a bit more rougher ride than the 8,9.. just felt a little more like the 6 with the looks of the new ones. the 6 dash is so dated now. but all evos are awesome. had a 4. picking my 7 up next week in yellow! lol

Evo 6 has a 10.5t turbine too, the tommi makinen 6 had both 9.8t and 10.5t. Same with the evo 7 and 8 too.

Depending on the driver, the IX is 14 sec faster around the ring than the Evo VI. There's a "small" improvement ^^

Fq are only sold in the uk i think. Here in Australia they only have the 1 model. So all evos pretty much have the same power and speed.
