    A few things here bother me, You don't need a tax agent to lodge a tax return because we have the website MYGOV, which is a free government website, all your income information, health insurance and residency status is prefilled in by the government for you, all you need to do is log in, press lodge and make sure your bank details are correct, then press to submit, takes less then 5min and you don't pay a tax agent.
    just for your clarification, a work uniform and other work related expenses is claimed as a deduction, not offset. you can qualify for offsets depending on income, age and circumstance, and are generally automatically applied.
    Also a PAYG is a Pay as you go instalment, and isn't used to lodge a tax return, its simply a method to prepay tax. a payment summary is what you use to lodge a tax return, and they are submitted online by your employer and prefilled into your tax return.

    You really didn't go into reasons why you would get tax back especially if you are a non resident.As far as i know its a flat 15% for backpackers so why would they give you tax back from that? did u get that much back because you were a resident?

      I really don't know Nela, sorry. The best thing you can do is to contact the ATO (Australian Taxation Office) and check with them :)

    I was thinking of buying the G7X. I've ordered a Sony but it's taking to long so may cancel. Thats a good amount. The residential bit I never knew about. That can be confusing. Does it change from each location you visit ? Thanks for helping

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  Před 8 lety

      Apparently the Sony factory was affected by the earthquake in Japan, which is why there has been a big stock shortage. That's what the guy in the camera shop told me anyway! It can be pretty confusing, I agree. You would need to do say 183 days in one location eg. Sydney. You could travel for say 2 weeks somewhere else because an Australian living and working in Sydney would have a holiday at some point, so it would be classed as residential behaviour. As far as I understand it as long as you have lived and worked in one location for the 183 days and shown residential behaviour, where you are and how long you work the rest of the time doesn't really matter too much. But please check this with a tax specialist! There is a good example of whether you are a resident for tax purposes or not on the ATO website: goo.gl/NylZyG Hope this helps. If I've misunderstood the question, let me know :0)

    hello nomadic unicorn. im concerned about my residential status. i was 173 days living in one place and working most of the time. Are they making any exceptions or is it a must criteria to get over 183?

    Thq for this info. One question🙈 Do you know if you can get your tax back before your 2nd WHV or do you have to get it back after the 2nd WHV? Like the quality btw...Why would you bring it back?

    • @NomadicUnicorn
      @NomadicUnicorn  Před 8 lety +1

      You can claim it before your second year, as long as you have been there six months and it's the end of the tax year. So say you go in October you would have been there for 9 months already so can put in a claim at the end of June. Then you would start your second year the next October, and could again claim at the end of June again. Does that make sense!? Thanks 😊 I was a little worried about the audio and the clicky autofocus, but I don't think it's that noticeable

    • @xtraordinaryworld84
      @xtraordinaryworld84 Před 8 lety +1

      Aah so ...thank you again. It's clear to me now. No.. I had no problems at all with the audio. I can hear you loud en clear :)

    It changed a lot in 2018 for Working Holiday visa holders. this information is not relevant anymore, or at least misleading.
