  • Many widows wear their wedding rings till the day they die and others take them off the first year. The key here is that this is a very personal decision and others need to keep their opinions to themselves.

I am not ready to take it off. I took it off one day and felt utterly naked. I am not shopping for a new husband, in fact, I'm nearly 72 and I know I will never marry again. It's been 3 years and I still wake up crying and calling his name. I miss him so very much. I wear his ring on my right hand and mine where it has been for 47 yrs. The only time I say I am single is on my taxes. In my heart I am still married to my beloved.

I wear my husbands wedding ring on my left middle finger. He gave it to me to keep safe every time he had a surgery. I am honored to keep wearing it every day now.

My husband just passed a little over two months ago, only three weeks before our 40th anniversary.😭. I am not taking my wedding rings off because in my heart, we are still married. And I am not wearing them on my right hand either, I don't care what anyone else thinks.

I am wearing my beloved husband's wedding band - which he never took off from the day we were married it is a great comfort to me, a way to keep him close.

Had my husband’s wedding ring sized so I could wear it with my wedding ring and I will never take them off. I am 94 and have these rings for 75 years. Would be naked without them.

Had my decreased wife's ring cut in half and made in a pair of earrings, gave to my daughter.

Interesting to have many different replies. I guess a person can choose whatever they want todo with them. There is no certain rule.

I took mine off 2 years after hubby died. Everytime I'd look at my hand I'd remember when he put it on my hand and cry and cry. "Talked" to him and told him it's too painful to wear them. I put them with his wedding band and feel that we are together in that way. Personal choice as Mary said.

Whatever you want and whatever you need seem to be common messages I hear form other widows. Messages from people who haven't lost a spouse don't go by those statements though. They always seem to have an opinion on what I am or am not ready to do. I'm only 20 days widowed so it's all still new to me. At this point I can't imagine taking my wedding rings off. I have mine on my left hand and his on my right. I'm 32 though so I suppose that could change. Thank you for the idea of making our rings in to something else. I don't know that that idea is for me, but will keep it in mind if I ever decide I'm ready to take my rings off.

My husband died two weeks ago. We were married 26 years. He battled cancer for 7 years. This past year he lost so much weight that his ring was too big. I bought him a silicone band and he was buried with that one. I have his ring ( way too big for me) in a special box. I felt like our rings needed to be together since we can’t be so I put mine in there with his.. like we are still joined together somehow.

She is right, do what works best for you. I had my husband's sized to wear with my ring same as always. I plan for now to wear it always, i feel i can have a man friend and i dont have to put my past life in a closet. I dont plan to ever marry again, but if i did, that would be the time to let go.

I've seen widows' bracelets where you can use your husband's wedding band as part of the bracelet. It's just another way of keeping him close to your heart.

I just recently became a widow. It has not been a month yet. I plan to wear my wedding ring until I die. I also took his and re-sized to fit my pointer finger. I feel naked it without my wedding band.

My husband of 39 years died almost 10 years ago. I took off MY wedding band and tied it with his with a black ribbon that I keep my my make up counter.
