I as a German watched that races for breakfast as a ten year old, during my summer vacations, bcause of the time delay..... I do well remember it, that time gave me some sort of feeling well and comfortable....

I was sitting on the deck of the Foothill College pool when Hans Klein broke 2 minutes for the first time....officially. The group of young swimmers I was sitting with started joking about about would anybody ever break 4 minutes for 400 free. And then somebody cracks us all up by saying "What about 15 minutes for 1500 free?" That group included future world record holders and Olympic champs.

Michael Gross won comfortably against the competition. Jeff Float from Sacramento is where I live.

This was cool to watch. Mike Heath was my high school and club swim team coach.

Gross was the closest that that era had to Michael Phelps. It would have been interesting to see how Gross would have done swimming the individual medley due to the fact he held world records in freestyle and butterfly.

@@vitoroma9082 yup. That was the great equalizer. Of course, that was Phelps' weakest leg.

Amazing that that time wouldn't even make the qualifying time for the Australian Olympic team this year

0:14 Min.: Good Of The US-Commentator That He Try To Pronounces The German Name Michael Groß Correctly. It Is Respectful. Most People Often Choose The English Variant.
