I'm an old, old man with a disease that steals memories daily. All my friends, family, sports heroes, and musicians are slowly passing away. You are here for us, bringing and saving music that's often lost in another space and time. Your hard work is saving more than just old music. You're saving memories of life, saving music that's forgotten, and bringing light into the darkness that this world is sadly seeing. Thank You Big Soul Biz, thank you so very much.

Thanks very much for this Lightfoot masterpiece BizMatik. I know you've done one other reaction to his music and I'll just say he is the reason I picked up a guitar and learned to play almost 50 years ago. My wife and I saw him and his band perform many times at venerable Massey Hall in Toronto and he was (and still is) our favourite singer/songwriter. The gift that Gordon had for incredibly heartfelt lyrics and hauntingly beautiful melodies has never been matched (IMHO), he was a true communicator. I still find it hard to speak of him in the past tense but like all great artists his unparalleled gift of music keeps on giving. Cheers from Ontario, Canada!

I live just south of his hometown of Orillia, Ontario, and maybe 10 years agoi saw he was going to be at Casino Rama, so i got tickets and i surprised my husband. WE WERE THE ONLY ONES IN THE FRONT ROW!
Oh kiddo, you need to do his song, BEAUTIFUL. Half way through the song i turned to my husband and we kissed. When i looked back at Gordon our eyes met and he winked at us.
My husband passed away in May, and he never found out i paid $1,200 for those 2 front row seats.
I'm pretty sure if he had found out...let's just say it would have been me going first.
My husband, probably the most patriotic Canadian to ever live, bawled like a baby when Gordon passed just before my husband died.
I had 22 years with the love of my life, and pretty much my entire life listening to this true artist.

You both will live in my heart till the day it stops beating.
Now go listen to BEAUTIFUL. IMO the best love song ever written.❤❤❤

One of Gordon Lightfoot's best. But I have to say that his "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" remains one of my favourites.
Yes, Gordon was commissioned by the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) to write a song to commemorate Canada's centennial in 1967. And the "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" is what he came up with and 56 years later it still resonates.
Two videos, one unadorned and one with a more recent take on the song:
