      Thanks for liking the video. We have been doing FLL for nine years and decided to try out the MINDSTORMS Robot inventor kit this season. We tried to build the smallest robot we could including a quick attachment change system we used before on our EV3 robots. As to the design of the attachments, it is more a function follows form development trying to accomplish multiple missions with the same attachment and developing it from one mission to the next.

    Inspiring. We also have a small robot like yours, often gets thrown off course when it performs a mission. I am wondering if its due to lightweight. We have simple and light attachments. Do you think heavier attachments help weigh it down?

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem +2

      If the robot is getting off course when colliding with a mission model, weight should not make a big difference. Make sure that if you are using the table wall or a mission model to straighten the robot, that the robot has a mating surface compatible with the surface of the mission model or wall (wide enough bumper). One other thing to make sure: clean the table surface regularly and the tires of the robot very frequently. Teams at the World Festival will clean their tires before each match. It makes a huge difference for wheel slippage and does improve accuracy.

      Our videos are there to give you inspiration for creating your own solutions. The Robot Inventor is practically a different version of the Spike Prime. If we were to recreate this solution for the SP advanced driving base, it would probably be the same path and our attachments would get adapted to fit the SP. Overall it would look very similar. @dykim0 Před rokem +2

    That's amazing! I'm sure you had a lot of thoughts about making this result. Did you use two color sensors back and forth? We're using spike prime, but the robot doesn't go straight forward. It keeps bending in one direction, so it's hard to make a code. Is there any way to solve this problem?

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem +2

      To be honest we included the single color sensor of the Robot Inventor, but ended up not using it. Instead we use the built in gyro sensor (yaw angle) to drive straight and make precise turns. If your robot always draws to the same side, check if there is something dragging on the mat or against the wheels. Also make sure your tires are clean (wipe them with rubbing alcohol) and dust off the mat frequently.

    Hi! That's an amazing work ! I have a question. We programmed the robot in python and we made it with gyro to go straight. Now we are using the function to go for x cm straight and we saw that it already has the gyro correction implemented. But even with this, the robot after a turn of let's say 90 degrees, when it's starting it s going to the left about 15 degrees and then keep's it s way straight. Do you have any idea why this is happening ?

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem

      Are you resetting the gyro sensor every time before you use your move straight command? Or only once at the beginning of each run?
      Do you have a way to monitor the current reading of the gyro sensor? Does it read the value you want to drive to or is it off and the robot tries to correct that error right away?
      When you turn from 0 to 90 degrees, does the robot stop at 90, or does it overshoot and has to correct with the move straight command?

    Good job. I am just wondering, how do you make your robot go fast and stable at the same time? We have a compact driving base, but we have to make it go slow in order to make it move straight. If we don’t, it starts shaking and goes off course. Any suggestions?

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem +2

      We use the yaw angle sensor to make our turns and drive straight. All 100 turns are run at 15% speed and with tried correction factor. Wider turns can be run faster. Straight sections are run with varying speeds depending on distance. The fastest the robot runs is 55%, except for the returns home which are either 75 or 100% also depending on the distance.

      Hello. This robot was built from the MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor kit with the orange colored beams substituted to add our team color. We tried to build it as compact as possible and using the quick attachment system first shown by Zachary Trautwein on an EV3. With the Spike Prime kit you could build a similar robot that would be a little taller due to the SP kit having two medium and two large motors, whereas we are using four medium motors. The attachment system uses a medium sized gear, driven by the motor and any attachment meshes a small gear either radially for sideways rotating motion, or at a 90 degree angle for up and down motions. Let us know if you need more details.

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem

      You are referring to the yellow rubber band? We use it to dampen the movement of the arm. With the play between the gears and the long arm the arm was swinging back and forth a lot so that we were not able to position the three water units on the arm on the robot consistently. Also moving the arm even with a slow 5% power it would swing too much and drop the water units prematurely. The rubber band slows down and controls the movement so that it is smoother and places the three water units where they need to go.
      Hope this helps.

      Hello Aimee. If you look at the picture of the attachment in the video you will see two orange beams. The top one is solidly mounted to the structure and the bottom one is hinged with a friction pin. When the two (or three) energy units are loaded into it the two beams sit parallel to each other and hold the center beam pieces of the energy units. The two beams are held together by a red rubber band (your LEGO kit should have white, yellow and red rubber bands). The hinged bottom beam has a 3x5 angled beam attached to act as a trigger when the attachment reaches the toy factory hopper which opens the „claw“ and releases the energy units. Hope this description helps. ⚙️⚙️

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem +1

      This is something we have not checked yet. We make all t100 urns with the same slow speed and the same correction to achieve accurate turn angles. Turns less than 100 are driven at slightly faster speeds with adjusted correction factors. All of our straight drives use the yaw angle sensor to correct and drive straight. During longer runs we straighten the robot out by driving into the wall or mission models. Overall we think our deviation is less than a degree. ⚙️⚙️

    Hi, do you know is it possible to use the looped water units as energy units? Thanks 😁

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem

      Sorry, but no, water units (looped or not looped) are strictly water units and not to be used as energy units. Since the scoring conditions for the missions always call out what type of units (energy, looped water, hybrid, etc.) are required for a certain score, the mission would not score if a different type unit was used.
      Out of curiosity, what were you thinking of? The only option to score more points for a looped water unit would be to drop it into the energy storage instead of the water reservoir, but only if it was considered to be the same as an energy unit, which it is not.

      Our robot for this video was built using a LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor kit. It is similar to the Spike Prime kit, but different in that it has four Medium Motors (instead of two large and two mediums on the SP) and it has a few small pieces that you might not have in the SP kit. In general our videos are meant as inspiration to show what is possible. The shape of the robot is not as important as the way to get the robot to the mission models and having an attachment that can do what it needs to do. We are not providing a turn-key solution for any teams to copy, as that would not be in the spirit of the FLLC competition. The task is for the team to come up with their own robot design and attachments to complete as many missions as possible in the 2:30 robot matches. Specifically for this robot/attachment combination? No, we do not have a specific video for that. If you take a look at the front or rear picture of the robot, you will see the two identical attachment points. Each attachment starts out with a 5x7 picture frame that attaches to the three pins in the picture frames on the robot. From there it is gears and axles that transfer the motion and additional pieces adda for support or to execute the necessary movement. Attaching the attachments is easier if you start from the bottom, so tilt the attachment so that the top is pointing slightly away from the robot, then start inserting the two pins at the bottom, then tilt the attachment to vertical to snap it onto the robot completely.
      Hope this helps.

The part attaching to the robot is mostly put together out of four „picture frames“ (5x7 rectangular beams) held together by several other pieces. Within that structure we have the gears and a couple of axles translating the motion from the power take off on the robot into rotational motion around the Y axis. That drives a four bar linkage made out of axles and beams and respective connectors. The four bar lifts and drops a cage build from a couple of beams and two curved panels guiding the energy units to fall into the basket. On the far side we added a few more beams and a picture frame to have an arm that can lift the frame part of the power plant. ⚙️⚙️

    One question, how were you guys able to make such precise turning??? Although i use the yaw sensor in my and code robot, the code is not as precise as seen in our team video here czcams.com/video/HjHfNUlweI8/video.html any pointers and would it be possible to see your code for the turning?

      Hello. We do not like to share our code, as it does not teach you how to program the robot. We would rather help you learn how to program certain things so that you can come up with your own solution. Let us know what you are struggling with and we will help you.

    • @6006TechWarriors
      @6006TechWarriors  Před rokem +1

      Actually max is 410. The score calculating tool on the FIRST website is not considering that there are only 12 energy units available on the table. When strategizing where to put the energy units for a max score, you will find that you have to leave one unit in M08 and put three into M03. That leaves eight units to distribute between M13, M14 and M15.

      Hmm, we just looked at it again and can’t figure out what the 5 extra points would be from, do you mind clueing us in? The only thing we could think is that you could get an extra energy unit from the TV, but that would actually lower the score to 405. In general there is 1 too few energy units on the field to fully fill all scoring locations. ⚙️⚙️

      The energy unit that rolled out of the rechargeable battery target area actually rolled into home where our team member then loaded it on the next attachment. In the next run it is one of the thee units we drop into the toy factory. Hope this clears things up! ⚙️⚙️

      I can only think of the rechargeable battery. Where the maximum amount of energy units allowed is three, whereas you guys had two inside. The third one rolled away and ended up in the toy factory. But still, 410 is very impressive!
